Also had a very unsatisfactory exchange with a general manager at the club. The arrogant, patronizing attitude was enough for me to never contribute financially to the club while that "ego" worked there. Amateur hour indeed!

Every team we have played this season bar a handful are putting on incredible performances. Teams want to play well against the reigning premiers. Sydney's game was very impressive and probably one of their best performances for a number of years. I hate the old cliche that premierships aren't won in June, because last i checked, you still need to win games to make the finals.

The talk of Melbourne easily running the table and all that jazz hopefully didnt get to the boys heads and that the whole 'philosophy of 'respect every team' is actually believed.  It is expected that being premiers will warrant this level of opposition intensity and attention and that is why going back-to-back is never easy and is only done by truly great teams.

The Melbourne of last year would have bounced back from the Freo loss (which tbh was probably more a matter of luck given Trac's illness and losing May). 

The boy's do look flat, which suggests mental/physical tiredness,  illness throughout the club, or the 2022 MFC fashionable term 'loading'. We have also had a bigger struggle with injury this year, loosing Salem, Lever, Smith, TMac, Petty, Hibbo and then the COVID impact so continuity and connection isnt as good as it could be. 

Big game against the Pies - lose this with the Lions next could start to seed a bit of doubt throughout the team.

IMO The defence is fine. Reid only got on top of Tomlinson when Petty was off for most of the 2nd quarter. The mid-forward connection is obviously concerning as well. 

However, we are absolutely tired. Probably not from loading, probably because footy is an exhausting sport and we have a team of young players coming off shortened preseasons. Evidence of this, we jumped Freo and Sydney in the first quarter until they worked us over. 

Our general work rate is lower this year across the ground but it suffers as the game goes on.

Personnel-wise, we've got too many players out of form and we do need some change, but we've been persisting with a new side all year - Hunt and Brayshaw in the backline, Smith too until injured, Jordon on a wing, ANB more time up the ground and Petracca more time forward. We've changed more than your post suggests.

Predictability is very easy to coach against, we are very  predictable.

This has been a pattern all year, we've just been shown up last 2 weeks by good teams that were able to breach the dam walls.

No need to panic but this "we'll just grind oppositions down and get the game back to a Melbourne game" ain't going to wash anymore. 

Our stoppage spread and flat feet have been really frustrating to watch. We're constantly going forward from the stoppage. The opposition is just blocking this pathway, which is why we're constantly getting caught. The oppo is shrinking the field. Yze and Stafford need to come up with a solution to increase our workable area forward of D50. We just need different avenues to goal, which have been cut off by oppo tactics. 

I trust we'll work around this, I'm not sure it's a work rate thing looks to me like there's a bit of hesitation on role and positioning.

Stoppages have little to do with the loss. 

Zero goals from turnover.

We average 8 goals a game.

Yep. As has been shown up in our pressure ratings status this year. We’re way off the mark of 2021, and particularly the last 2 weeks. Bring that back, and we’ll bounce again. The question is why it’s dropped off. The much discussed ‘loading’, the fatigue of being hunted, fatigue of wearing expectation, individual players dropping form (a consequence of any/all of the previous). Tommo was very poor, Petty was off and on all night with an injury. Reid, LMacDonald and the McCartins beat us in the air. Sydney pressure and tackling was first class.

We were 5goals up to 5 pts with 3m to go in the 1st qtr and lost.

Overall we are a much better unit now and I am confident we will beat them
