Yes there is. May be a bit more than legend.

For context. The 1995 Blues were 7-0 on top of the ladder with a healthy percentage of 166.5%. 

In Round 8 they came up against the Swans who were sitting 11th (out of 16) with 2 wins and 97.6%. 

The Swans won by 72 points (21 goals to 8). 

The next week the Blues came up against bottom placed St. Kilda on 1 win and 64.4%. 

The Saints won by 56 points (11 goals to 3). 

After those 2 losses the Blues dropped to 4th and their percentage dropped from 166 to 125.

The next week they won by 102 points over the 8th placed Hawks and then won the next 15 games and on the way claiming the top spot at season’s end and ultimately the Premiership. 

From a Demon perspective we lost the last match of the season against the Bears who made the finals for the first time in their history and we missed out. They took our place in the 8.

We were 2 points down at 3/4 time and the Bears kicked 4.8 to 2.1 in the last to claim victory and history by 21 points.

They lost to Carlton by 13 points the next week and were bundled out of the finals.

You forgot to mention also that Carlton then thumped Geelong in the grand final - consigning the cats to their 4th GF loss out of the previous 6 years 

1995 was such a let down as a young demon - the Ox going down at Lavington was the start of my early MFCSS followed many the many disappointing injuries that plagued a talented team in the mid 90s

I have a memory of an unexpected win at Princes Park that paid for the Dees trip away.  (The boys played like men possessed)

Drove from Melbourne for that game with a pies mate , long drive home had pizza at carlton at 1am

We did learn from the 1995 Blues. We learnt not to get beaten by a lowly team by 50+ points. 😄

Our side seems to abhor losses with a passion I haven't ever seen from a Melbourne team (or few others) before - we find a way to win even when we aren't playing all that well, cant see us dropping a game to battling North this week

We were all over the place in 1995.

Lost our first 6.

Won 9 of the next 11.

Lost our last 5.

A real disappointing year given how exciting we were in 1994.

I remember schwarta kicking 3 on return from his knee against the pies. Then he did his knee the next week against the swans. We won the game but it felt like a loss leaving the G.

There was a joke at the time: "What's green and stuffs cats?" Answer: the MCG in September.

Apart from a few years in the late 2000s and early 2011s, not much has changed.

We lost a lot of games that year we shouldn't have. Adelaide at the MCG comes to mind. They had been belted by 100+ points a few times over the past few weeks and we went in as hot favourites. In true 90s Melbourne fashion we choked. Also lost a bunch of close games in the first few rounds after leading all game. North and Essendon early on. Led both at the last change and then got run over. We were also leading Carlton for most of the day but then got steamrolled and lost by 7 goals. Happened a few times throughout the year. Brisbane were undoubtedly more deserving of the final spot in the 8. Carlton would have absolutely destroyed us if we'd made it in. We were massive pushovers in 95 and 96 

I remember Carlton in 1995 were a very dominant side. Was easily the best team all year and destroyed Geelong in the Grand Final.

I think they were fired up after losing against us in the 1994 finals series.

As for David Parkin, I always remember the veins in his neck bulging as he was screaming on the phone in the coaches box back in the day. 😂

Apparently he used to be a Melbourne supporter growing up as a kid before being recruited by Hawthorn. I cannot confirm this though just remember hearing about it. 🤔
