Have liked what I've seen of him for Casey this year.

Hopefully the club are keeping an eye on him and may potentially draft him, either as a mid to late pick or even rookie draft.

Can't find much about him online, keen to know his height etc.

I coached him junior cricket at Frankston YCW.  He played in back to back premierships in under 14's.  Was a decent medium pacer and a gun slips fielder.  Footy was always his go though.  A very clever small forward.  He's doing great at Casey this year.  Pleased to see him doing so well.

Him & Grey are both pretty solid.

Seems like a natural talent with a fair bit of upside.  Decent moves with ball in hand.  Be surprised if he isn't being looked at as we speak.

Casey is a proven alternative pathway to the AFL with Bayley Fritsch and Oscar McInerney being the most notable. With the re-emergence of the VFL competition you'd expect others to follow their footsteps. Of the younger guys on Casey's list, Roan Steele has shown he can certainly play. Kicked multiple goals a few rounds back, he looks a smart player and is not afraid of the  physical stuff. Matthew Johnson on debut last round also looked impressive. There were some other new faces which would be expected with the recent Covid protocols. Will watch future developments with interest and anticipation.

double take

He's listed as a Covid top-up player for us prior to the start of the season so would imagine the club have been keeping tabs on him for a while.

After another excellent season, Roan Steele was runner up in Casey VFL best and fairest. Played mid/revolving on HFF. Many of DLand suggested he get a Dees rookie spot but no !!!

After 3 years at Casey, he decided to go to WAFL to try his luck

Midseason draft 2025 - pick 8 - Collingwood selects Roan Steele

3 weeks later - he gets a debut game with the ladder leading Pies !!

what’s going on at Melbourne FC ??

Pies pinched him from under our nose. What a mess at MFC!!

He was available to all 18 clubs for years. One club eventually decided to take a punt on him to see if he's up to AFL standard.

Still, any excuse to pot MFC, hey?

The point is we've made an artform of ignoring talent under our nose ... but kudos to us we can pick obscure players who live on our rookie lists then fade into the ether.

I think his point has merit.

If we keep [censored] up.... many here will keep pointing it out.

We need to do so much better, be much cleverer.

Oh I'm sorry... you're right... zipping along under the radar , in fact under most clubs ... that's where it's at 😉

Congratulations Roan, Collingwood have got another ‘Steele’.

Did we make a blunder or was it a decision based on our list profile?

No big loss.

Just another Osker Baker/Rohan Bail type who can run but is an absolute butcher by trade with his foot skills.

Folks melting over him is priceless.

I regard Roan as a very similar player to Henderson, and we went in the Henderson direction. Pretty amazing that Roan is already in the Pies' side. I guess time will tell on this one?

Well done Roan you will play at least 1 more AFL game than me but FFS I’m sick of posters taking any opportunity to kick the club. Missing out on Steele isn’t why we find ourselves in the current situation.

It’s not like we haven’t thrown a lifeline to VFL and state league players without some success

With most of the media attention on the Patrick White bioepic. No column space was available on Roan's AFL debut.

We did manage to glean some statistics off the AFL match page.

Time on ground - 82%

Disposals - 19 (11 kicks, 8 handballs)

Disposal efficiency - 68%

Tackles - 2

Marks - 4

Metres gained - 309

Inside 50 - 4

Score involvements - 3

Not too shabby in front of nearly 80,000 fans.

Isn't this a bit like getting annoyed when Port drafted Dom Barry?

Not exactly, as Dom at least played for us and chose to go home.

Roan was a Casey player for a few years who we didn’t even rookie and is now an AFL player with the top club,

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
