Our policy is you want to come in you have to buy in fully. No mouth, no pulling up.no shi%$#y hair doos unless your Fritch.

I really wanted us to chase Shiel when he was up for trade at GWS. He was a stoppage beast with explosive power out of the contest. Thankfully we didn’t and thankfully we have Oliver and Trac instead.

I agree with what everyone is saying.  he's a good player and has that burst of speed which is good. But we don't have the money. I would however be interested in targeting Shuey from WCE for a 1 year rental. I think he would be much cheaper and has the finishing that we lack sometimes. And he's clutch in big games.

At his age, he’s destined for the cattery.

A bit the same. I thought he was fantastic early on at the Giants and was hoping we could prise him out of there. Unfortunately he was playing a lot better at 19 than he is at 29. Still has talent, pace & power and could be a significant asset in the right environment. It appears that's not Essendon. Economically, it can't be us.

hasn't been able to get consistently get on the field for three seasons and is about to turn 32

again, it's a no

yeah, definitely injury prone. would come super cheaply. he's a significant upgrade on James Jordon but yeah obviously when healthy. Nonetheless, I do hope we get involved in a few raids in the off season. We're a destination club for some good players that are towards the end of their careers.

I could see us kicking the tyres the same way we did with Cerra but I'm not sure if it's worth a full shout.

I'd suggest that Tom Browne's entire basis for the rumor is the joke mention of him on Gus & Gawny, but that would require Tom Browne to have spent 30 minutes actually researching football news, so it is unlikely.

Shiel is discussed in Point 5 of this article:  six-points  It talks about his strengths being assets at GWS but underutilised at Essendon where his weaknesses are then exposed.

"The simple truth is this: Essendon, a young team that plays a short-kicking game and seems intent to move the ball slowly towards sole tall target Peter Wright, has no use for a player like Dylan Shiel."

He has several years on his contract reported at $800k pa.  If Ess can't use him effectively that is a lot of coin out of their sal cap.  Like other teams that want to do sal cap dumps for a seemingly 'non-essential' player they may be better off cutting their losses and accept an average draft pic ala GWS (Patton, HWSNBN), Coll (Stephenson, Phillips), GCS (Brodie).  If they want a good pick eg 2nd round they need to pay part of his salary for a few years ala Coll (Treloar).

But then it is Dodoro clubs will be dealing with.

We are not one of the teams mentioned where he might be needed.

Now let’s go and comment on how much we need to keep Dogga and Clarry on their respective contract renewal threads.

At yesterdays indigenous jumper presentation, Ky-ya explained the emu footprints were a symbol of moving forward as a club as emus can’t move backwards. I wonder if this is Shiels nickname

Clearly not an example of Shiel be Wright.

Sadly for all of our lols they'll improve in this area with Mahoney running the show.

There is no way we would have the cap space and he is surplus to our needs

Rubbish player, no defence, very outside no thanks!

Maybe.  I think Dodoro and Mahoney are separate organisational units whereas at the Dees the two were combined under Mahoney's jurisdiction (until the 2020 restructure when they were split ala Ess).

A fly on the wall at Ess might be fun if the two need to negotiate what they think is best for Shiel or anyone else.

Would be interesting to see how much of the AFL media would retain their job if they were made to work under a zero tolerance policy for dishonest reporting, and they had to be able to back up everything they report with reliable sources.

Most just see a situation, make a string of assumptions, and when lightning strikes and their guess turns out to be right they pat themselves on the back for it.

Over priced average player?

Obviously Carlton are the club

Although he is approaching 30, so maybe it's Geelong?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
