How times have changed. Last season Richmond beat St Kilda by 86 points in round 5  and were going to teach us a lesson in round 6 according to many pundits. Reviewing the replay the commentators were marvelling on Richmond’s power in the first 15 minutes of that game and saying we were playing a team on an other level above us. That game was one of my favourite replays to watch.

Ambition - day was planned, pub lunch with a couple of other Dees, arvo ferry from Portarlington staying in town overnight, dining room dinner on 2nd level AFL Members area, celebrate the night after watching the Dees, back on ferry in morning with probable hangover

Reality - came down with Covid 2 days ago, will spend the day coughing and sneezing while watching the game instead !!

Go Dees

Hope you’re on the mend!

What time does the pre game ceremony start? Mfc has 6.55 and Richmond has 6.30?

I’m trying to find out that information as well. Does anyone know?

Since this one is an away game, will the cheer squad be at the ponsford stand end or the regular spot in the Warne stand?

Ponsford

I think we will strangle them, get out to 40+ points, they kick a couple of late ones, Dees by 33 points.

Looking forward to seeing Dunstan, Smith and BBB in action tonight for similar, but different reasons.

Great to see Dunstan getting some reward for effort and faith in himself and the MFC for making the move across.  Having someone who would probably fit into the best 22 at most other clubs in the league as depth is an outright luxury, but if they don't get opportunities, it would be easy for the motivation and form to drop off and frustrations to breed discontentment.  I'm sure he'll have a red hot crack and is recognised for the effort he brings as in our team it isn't about people being superstars in every game.

I thought Smith was showing some really good signs down back before he lost his spot in the side (ironically to health and safety protocols if I remember correctly).  I see it as super important for the long term sustained sucess of the team that we continue to develop key defensive backline players.  This time Smith is comming into a back 6 that looks considerably more settled than in the early rounds when he last played, with Harry Petty providing a great second anchor from day dot last week.  The speed and marking strengths that Smith has started to show are a real X factor that could really help to shore up our defense in a post Hibbo, post May era that will inevitably come at some point and the more Smith plays, in my mind, the more assured he has looked with his reading of the play and positioning of the ball.  I'm also convinced he has shored up his disposal which was pretty shaky (probably lack of confidence) in his early games for the club.

With BBB I'm really looking forward to seeing him pickup where he started the season full of form and confidence.  His season has cruelly interrupted by COVID and clumsy indiscretion, but I reckon he'll be chomping at the bit to get amongst it tonight.  Will also be interesting to see how the Brown/Weid/Fritsch dynamic works.

Will be interesting to see how we continue to deal with the outright favourites status that we are almost universally been awarded at the moment.

In days gone by, I'd be confident, but concerned about false hope, big heads and an imminent stumble.  But this is the new Melbourne and I've got a much better sense of assurance that we'll just keep marching on.  Even if we were to loose tonight, which could happen for a variety of reasons, I don't think it would have a crippling impact and the reset would be swift.

On the Deebrief podcast they mentioned one of their mates was at a business lunch with Kate Roffey and he told her he was a Melbourne supporter. Apparently during the discussion he made a comment along the lines of "it's great but still waiting for it to fall apart" - she looked him in the eye and said "we are not that club anymore."

That sucks, PF. Hope you’re not being hit too hard by it. 💕And a win tonight should have you feeling better, I’m sure. ❤️💙

Take it easy.  And drink plenty of water. Not all at once, just frequent sipping. Minimum two litres.

That's a great response to hear.

Not an attitude of arrogance and elitism, but it's great that internally it well and truely sounds like we've broken the shackles of defeatism and negativity that must have held us back for so long and replaced it with an attitude of self assuredness that hard work and our systems will prevail in the end and that this has permeated through all levels and aspects of the club's administration.

Dear Melbourne players

Keep your hands by your side tonight & zip your mouths. We don't want to give the tigs any easy 50s

Well i have the usual dose of MFCSS. Nothing unusual in that though.

Thanks Nurse WWW, I will do just that, thank you for your concern and advice!!! But, after 5 PM then, the water may be diluted with an all in one, clinically proven mouth cleanser, palate reconditioner and throat relaxer exiler.... In other words, it will be all ahead full with some GLUG GLUGS!!😇

What a fine club it is…..soon to be kicked out though.
Close contact into didn’t test positive until day 9, so up to day 15 now and out of iso tomorrow.
Feel fine and would love to be there tonight to cheer on the boys and take in the pre game ceremony.
To anyone suffering with Covid I hope you feel better soon. A Dees win always lifts the spirits.

Tipping a comfortable 30pt win with our incredible defensive pressure to continue.
Go Dees

just re-watched last years game. Would be happy with a similar result.

Interesting that the tone of the commentary was one of surprise for how well the Dee's played.

They kept mentioning it was the start of something! WTH! we were already 5-0

Strange to see Lingers in short sleeves. I didn't remember that ever happening.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

  • PREGAME: Richmond

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
