Because he rarely hits down Clarrys or anyone else's throat! FWIW Dogga, hits more to advantage. Go back and watch some replays and you will see what I mean, which could also mean that The mids, might not be in the correct spots for seamless clearances.

Jackson currently at 2.8% hitouts to advantage from a 38.5% hit out win rate. Both rate below average. Gawn 50% hitout win (elite) and 7.5% hit out to advantage (below average).  NicNat 53% hitout win (elite) 8.7% to advantage (below average). Tim English 35.5% hitout win rate 5.8% to advantage (both below average). Brodie Grundy 45% hit out win rate (elite) 9.4% to advantage (elite).

The margin between elite and below average is obviously minimal (Grundy at 9.4 (elite) v NicNat 8.7 (below ave))  But anyway, Dogga does not have more hits to advantage.  That is a complete furphy.  Gawn is a far superior tap ruck to Jackson.  However Jackson provides a great point of difference with his follow up work.

Stats courtesy of AFL app.

Petracca only averages 1.8 centre clearances and 3 stoppage clearances. Oliver 3.3 centre clearances (elite) and 5 stoppage clearances. Viney 1.3 centre clearance and 3.3 stoppage clearances.  Gawn 1.5 centre clearance  and 3.8 stoppage clearance.  Our ruckman is our second best clearance player.  By comparison Jackson goes at 1.3 centre clearance and 1.8 stoppage.

We're getting ever closer now to being the first ever side to re-field a flag-winning team in a subsequent game.

Down to just Salem, Brown and Hibberd, with their replacements being Hunt, Weideman and whoever this week's sub is (let's say Bedford).

Salem's a clear walk-up best 22. Brown IMO deserves to come straight back for the lesser of Weid/TMac. Which leaves Hibberd fighting with Hunt (and Smith...and Tomlinson) for that last spot.

I don't know if we'll ever get the premiership 23 back on the park, and it may well be the case that Hibberd never gets himself back into best 23 contention, but damn I'd love it to happen just for the record and memory.

I think he's only played the one with Freo but was injured early in the game

Good to see Petty get a run at AFL level before the Richmond game. They have a few handy talls in their front half

That's right, I was there, hurt his foot ☹️

Last chance for Weid Saturday barring some tall forward having covid protocol injury or suspension in future . Playing in the premiership gives you credits . Unless weid kicks 4 he us out for bbb. Smith and tominlson both out for premiership players , unlucky for them but tough calls are being made and we have depth now

Thanks Swooper.  I think one of the most important stat is what percentage of the time does the opposing ruckman hit the ball to advantage.  It may not be critical to win it but it's mighty important that you stop the opposing ruckman from hitting it down his teammates throat.

I think it’s hard on Tommo dropping him, but Petty was phenomenal last year.

Competition for spots is so tough.

Would be strange to not have Tomlinson as an emergency if May was under a fitness cloud.

Was reported on 7 news - and I agree that not having Tommo as an emergency would be strange if this were a real concern.  Unless Petty is to be his direct replacement. With Smith as next in line, or maybe even medical substitute?

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
