Some important games this weekend in shaping the top ten and the rest.

Hawks and Carlton (with one being undefeated) skews the longer term perspective perhaps.

The interesting ones for me are Pies V Cats, Adelaide v Port and Saints v Richmond. You can mount a case for each being a comparative upset result.

Sydney

Melbourne

Irrelevant but would love Port to be 0-3

Gold Coast because I hate GWS and also see above re: Port

Geelong *vomit*

Brisbane by 25+ goals

Carlton *vomit*

Who cares?

Who cares x 2?

hun have us as 24 to 3 in tipping

WEST COAST EAGLES v FREMANTLE

Sunday April 2, 6:20pm at Optus Stadium

EAGLES

TBA Saturday evening

DOCKERS

TBA Saturday evening

Nice touch with the old South jumpers. Better than the red yoke with the cutout bridge.

I don’t think it’s been until watching the dogs this year that Bruce’s contribution to the team has become apparent to me. He’s so important to their set up. Takes a big defender, but does a lot of work across half forward and even the wing being a target out of the backline. There’s only so much Naughton and an inexperienced Ugle-Hagan can do for an entire game.

Is there any player going around who’s more irritating that Weightman?

I loath Greene but at least he’s a genuine gun

Floppy mcfloppy is a bloody average player.

I’m conflicted on Greene… he’s a different cat and a brilliant player. It’s a shame he has so little self control; he’s the Nick Kyrgios of footy!

Watching the bulldogs makes me feel sick. So many free kicks

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
