Luckily we were already braced for this because it would have been the final straw on this 2006-2017 like day.

To anyone who actually knows this stuff, is the mooted late season return prospect at all realistic with a low grade lisfranc issue supported by a plate via surgery?

Was hoping Smith was closer - would be extremely handy atm

Poor max should be told to go away for a week & rest up. He is battered & bruised & sore.

His knees and today his hip & ankle were bothering him.

He's one that needs the bye

Apparently was an ankle today according to channel 7.  Although I'm sure the knee in the back was more troubling mid way through the second.  Courageous effort to stay out there.

It is 100% his back. He was holding it constantly. Channel 7 commentary is trash.

We don’t deserve him. He is a warrior and I’m fuming that Cox, genuinely one of the worst footballers going around, gets to look like some sort of hero today playing on nobody after injuring Gawn. I hope he drops those stupid sunglasses in the toilet!

We are in genuine trouble if Gawn is going to be out for a while or down on form due to the injury.

Agree entirely.  Jackson showed he isn't in the top 10 rucks in the league today.

Poor guy was buggered. He had hardly no rotation for a whole quarter. He’s just a kid and he was playing against that [censored] Cox who, like Mumford, is a thug masquerading as a D grade footballer.

Leaps way too early at the center bounces too often...cant see how we're going to win many hits to advantage or even neutralise the contest unless he corrects this.

That is correct, but it is also allowing him to hit the ground first and become another mid, which he did brilliantly in the last GF.

He can do that, and does it well,  but I was more concerned with his inability to provide a contest in the ball ups and his lack of capacity to keep up with Cox around the ground.  An obviously injured Gawn provided a better contest than Jacko today.  He had plenty of mates, but it wasn't a great day for him.  Today we needed him to play like a big man and he didn't, other than a couple of times deep forward.

Goodwin confirmed on AFL 360 that he carried a back injury into the game, which was worsened early in the game when Cox jumped into him and the also rolled an ankle.  Goodwin confirmed he would've been subbed out but as he left the field Turner was concussed and Petty got hurt so Max got to complete his duties.  Gutsy effort by the legend.

Agreed Mr Leg but i still think he halved many of those center bounces in the air before then competing as that handy extra mid at ground level. Prevented the opp hitting to advantage first (some of the time).

He's doing less of the former and seems to be a fair way off the level he showed in the GF on the ground at the mo also.

Not expecting him at GF levels either every week however he's been a fair way off that for about 5 weeks now (post Covid?).  Slightlly improved around the ground the last few but not in the middle IMO.

Maybe don't take significant injuries / illness impacted players into a game?

You don't always need a Maxy to square the ledger in the big man dept.  Use Majak in small doses as required and craft / grind out some of these games.  Maybe for the odd win.  Ok so we lose a few ....we probably would've lost them anyway taking in compromised players.

Gives the injured / ill time to reset and come back primed.

I'm only a keyboard amature but seems a little strange to be managing a team in this manor over such a grueling long season.

Goody goes back to learnings but it appear he has allowed this error with two of our key players now over the last few weeks.  An error that could be the difference between 2nd and 3rd maybe if things get tight?

As we know this is often a game of inches or small percentages.  A few good/poor decisions can be the difference.  Playing a big time player impacted by such issues to me also has the potential to effect a player's mental state / confidence in general, IF he ends up feeling he has not been able to play at his best and has let the team down etc.

Simply not worth it in my book.  Would we take this risk in a big final?  If not, why do we do so in regular season?

NO ONE has learnt from the Joel Smith saga at Casey 2/3 years ago and we had the great DB in charge then.

Not sure the successor from Brisbane or Goody are heeding any lessons nor was Trac with the flu/ gastric and now looks slow and banged up.

Time for Bedford Rivers and Majak to speed up and toughen our team vs Lions.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
