I've never started a topic before but just stumbled across a podcast on youtube where Tom is being interviewed by a guy called Matt Wong and thought I'd share it. It goes for about an hour.

One scroll through the dot points and their previous videos and absolutely no way I’m I listening to that.

Anything that mentions noted scholar Andrew Bogut has me out immediately.

Hi DS. I listened to it all the way through and thought it was good to hear one of our players speak openly about things from outside a club or AFL environment. I must say I've never heard of Matt Wong and had a look at some of his other episodes and had the same thought as you when I saw Alan Jones' name on one.

Noted scholar "DeeSpencer" doesn't have much of a ring to it either.

I mean, who doesn't want to hear an AFL footballer talk about the morality of vaccine mandates, real estate agents, global population issues and how "misanthropy has infiltrated mainstream perspectives" with someone as 'open minded' as Matt Wong with his wide range of topics from 'Daniel Andrews will lose the next election' to 'The end of #IStandWithDan', 'Suburban Melbourne Turns on The Government', 'Daniel's Victoria: Divided', 'Labor: The Australian Lockdown Party' and of course 'Daniel The Good Dictator'.. I really admire how they stick to their 'diverse range of people on a huge variety of topics' ethos.

Shocked a vegan leftie type like TMac would be associated with such a thing, even worse he's dragging his poor shy mate Bogut into it. Too much time with Ben Brown probably...

LOL. Thanks for the heads up Nev. I had no idea the guy had so much to say about a bloke that was democratically elected in a landslide. I hope the online algorithms don’t fill my social media with Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson content now.

He's... not subtle... but that's the 'alignment' old TMac has taken it would seem.

It's an interesting era we're in where the monetization of outrage and the exploitation of engagement continues unabated.

Some of the topics covered (that TMac would actually have some genuine expertise in) look quite interesting, but sprinkling it through the conspiracies just puts me off providing it with further clicks.

There's also that logo that looks just a little bit too much like a Q...

All politics aside, the interviewer must either live under a rock, or doesn't believe in researching his guest. Why would he have Tmac as a guest in the first place, if Tmac hadn't been part of a premiership team?

So I fast forwarded, and he didn't realise that NBA players like Bogut earn 20 times that of an AFL player. That was enough for me.

On the topic itself, I've always found that I do quite enjoy listening to Tom when he speaks. He's very smart in the way he articulates his language, but is often ahead in his thought process.

I didn't mind the interview at all. I love his honesty, and the biggest thing he emphasised on, and probably a lesson for young footballers, was just make sure you have a career option to fall back on. He couldn't stress enough the importance of just be prepared with life after footy.

On the other topics, I mean it's obviously what he believes in and good on him. I think now people are too scared to express their own views and opinions on a social media platform with the fear of getting smashed online. I admire the bloke for not being afraid to express his views.

They spent most time talking diet. Hardly controversial. I suggest posters listen rather than pre-judging

TMac is obviously intelligent. I’ve no doubt he will forge a successful career post footy

Thanks for sharing @Rab D Nesbitt

What got me was how articulate Tom was.

Can anyone remember the early days of TV when an interview would go like

Yes Mr Williamson

No Mr Williamson

Full Back mr Williamson....

He has seen one afl game and doesn't know a thing about the sport which found it a bit tedious at times when Tom would have to explain the basics.

Overall, I did enjoy it. Tom is always good to listen to.

Agree Tmac may even be a politician for his country region where he lived Edenhope !!!

Why did that even happen?

Although,

1. Tom did get COVID (and 'last week'. I presume Wong has a stock of RATs)

2. Tom is considering David Limbrick for his first thoughtful Federal election vote...

Yeah that was annoying. Almost like explaining to a kid the simple basics of footy.

Tomald is definitely going down the contrarian libertarian track after attending that Jordan Peterson lecture in 2019. I believe he has also spoken on an Institute for Public Affairs podcast with Andrew Bolt's son.

Personally, I think most people can probably guess where I stand on that type of stuff. For mine, a lot of that intellectual dark web stuff is basically old ideas dating back to pre French Revolution times that defend hierarchies as natural and inevitable that are just given a fresh coat of rhetorical paint. I mostly don't find it 'dangerous' unless you are trying to stay awake as most of the conversations these guys have with each other are so tedious, vacuous and rambling.

If you do want to stay awake, Tim Heidecker did an amazingly accurate parody of Peterson/Roganesque pseudo-academic circle jerks that is actually entertaining.

'They found the horn!'

Note: After the first hour, the just put this on a 12 hour repeating loop. But it genuinely feels like one of these 'free thinker' podcasts or YouTube channels that make the rounds these days.

Seems so. Refer his apparent Federal voting thoughts 😬. Also his thoughts on the '20%' (Side game: Who might the '5 to 10' of his teammates be who share his 'exploring alternatives' tendencies? 5 to 10 of 44 being about 20%, as it happens...)

Back on the footy side Wong (not surprisingly, I guess, given his random 'interview' approach) missed an obvious opportunity to explore the effect of COVID on elite fitness. Goodness knows he did other aspects of Tom's/AFL's fitness to death...

My advice is if malapropisms are giving you trouble: if symptoms perdoct see your sistor. 😉

A serious thread hijacked by ha-ha-iness. I like it.

And Rev. Spooner would like to reclaim his aphasion from Mrs Malaprop.

(I thus throw my hat into the smart arze ring...)

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
