I'd expect at least a swap of future 2nd's as well.ย

If George was anything like Petracca, heโ€™d be going top 3.

That's who he has been compared to by many experts. He was originally a top 10 selection prior to doing his ACL.ย

Why not one of them and Jefferson? Say George and Jefferson ! Forwardsย

if you like a bigger Fritta and Trac 2 if he is a clone.ย

Nothing wrong with Jefferson. I wouldn't mind taking him, though he would be about 3 years away from getting a game. He's put on some weight this year apparently so he'll need to put on another 10 - 15kgs if he wants to play with the big boys. But if we held our current picks we could take Jefferson at 13, but would miss out on the 4 really good players I had mentioned to you earlier in (George, Barnett, Cowan and Gruzewski). Pick 37 we might go for a half back like Luke Teal or Jakob Ryan as Hunt was traded and Hibbo will be in his last year so we need to stock up with a selection there. Adam D'aloia would be a really good pick up also if we wanted a mid. He is ready to go at 186cm's and 86kgs.ย

If we did that we would probably not get Jefferson, George or Allan, if thatโ€™s who we are looking at.

IMO if we trade up, it will be by using 37 and a future pick. I canโ€™t see us trading 13, as that would get us the players named, except maybe Allan.

Yes I can't see how going backwards can really help us get the best players Mr Leg.

AGree that a 2nd round future added may be handy to boost our 2nd round 37.

Bekieve Jefferson is No 1 ย at 13 (14) and either George or Allan are good gets if we can move up.ย

Oh my God well have to wait an extra day for draft night to arrive if we don't have a 1st rounder!ย

I'd be disappointed if we traded 13 and 37 for 20 and 26. We lost Jackson for 13 and a future first rounder and had to fight hard to get those two first round picks. To then get rid of one in 13 would further dilute the compensation we got and the possibility of replacing him with elite talent is reduced even further.

We should take 13 to draft and grab the best talent available. Whether that's Jefferson, Hewitt, Hollands, Allan etc I don't care, but that top tier talent will be there at 13 and won't be at 20+. We need elite talent now while we're in our window.

What if we don't think any of the talent available at that pick are elite, and that players 11-30 are very even? If that's how our recruiting team sees it they should trade down.

Then trade 13 for a future first rounder.

Well said no value in trading Down!

A no of elite talents are there in the top 15/20 which we shouldn't say no to also.ย

That's not how the talk from all experts has been Davis. JT is too smart to fall for "trading down". No value at all to ruin the compensation for Jacko.ย

Why really is there any reason for a dramatic drop in picks 11-30 to justify a good position for elite talent that is not available every year. We should embrace our first choice just like We have over the last 6/7 years and revel in their ability to help us win another Flag or two.ย

The fact that we have recruited players from other clubs to fill holes in our list means the new recruits have time to grow and get better before they are required to fill holes in the list.

Melksham and Hibberd were retained because they have more to give before retirement and allows the recruits time to show that they are deserving of a spot in the AFL team.

Unlike last year when we believed that natural growth in the younger players will improve the team, before TMac when down we were 10-0 afterwards we were 6-8 proving that our depth was not there.

If he was genuinely a top 10 selection, he still would be after an ACL. He was projected to potentially earn his way into the top 10 if he didnโ€™t injure his ACL. Subtle but significant difference.

We are also into Ed Allan from WA a 190 odd cm running versatile who is a taller version of Blake Howes possibly.ย

Thanks @58er. ย Iโ€™m not a fan of pushing โ€œ13โ€ down the list. ย It should get us one of a Hollands, Phillipou, Hewitt or Allan.ย

Would be happy with any of those players. Recently, Cal said that someone good will slip to our pick.

Cal Twomeyโ€™s November Rankings:-

Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' November ranking

The players heย claims Melbourne may have interest in are:

โ€ข Jefferson
โ€ข Allan
โ€ข George
โ€ข Barnett
โ€ข Gruzewski

And on Jefferson's draft range:

Where does he go?ย Melbourne has been linked to Jefferson at pick No.13. Sydney and the Giants could consider him given they have multiple picks but he could also be available deeper into the top 20.ย

Pretty clear we will be focusing key position players with both picks, probably what we can expect.

To clarify as well Jefferson, Allan, George, and Barnett linked to our first pick, Gruzewski linked to our second. Sounds like all those linked to our first pick will go first round as other clubs in the first like them too.

A bit more on how that early part of the draft from Marc McGowan (now at the Age):-

Bombers shape as draft wildcards in top-10 calculations

The link to Jefferson & George a pretty consistent theme now, along with Allan, although seems more likely that Allan won't get to our pick. Suns rounding on Humphrey could shake things up a bit, along with Essendon seeking to push back.ย

The decision point for a club jumping would have to be whether they want to jump up to get either Humphrey or Ginbey. ย Eagles in a pretty good spot to just sit back and take whomever falls through.

Interesting to note Hewett's 'behavioural concerns' mentionedย

Yes, first time I've seen that published. ย There had to be something we were all missing that was seeing him drop out of the speculation at the upper part of the draft.

Iโ€™d think if it becomes clear that Allan is not going to be available at our first pick, we would then be much more inclined to complete a trade like the mooted 13 & 37 for 20 & 26. Heโ€™d be our primary target imo.

Allan, Jefferson & George are sounding like the primary targets at 13, could miss on all three if we trade back to 20. Not out of the question that we could still upgrade pick 37 without giving up 13, but I'd want more than an upgrade of a 2nd round pick to trade out of the first round entirely.

An interesting watch will be whether Sydney bid on Giants Academy player Rowston ahead of GWS' picks at the end of the 1st rd. Another live trade option could present itself.

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
