Wow! Just amazing!

60,000 Melbourne Football Club members!  What a wonderful milestone!

It almost brings a tear to my eye. I remember when we were struggling to get to over 20,000 members back in the late 1990s.

Well done and congratulations to all those paid up Melbourne Football Club members!

Let's get to 65,000 members! That's the next achievement! GO DEMONS!!!

This time last year on 14 May total was 46,896 and the cutoff total on 31 July was 53,188 so memberships went up another 6,292. So potentially there is the scope to crack the 65,000 target although it's not possible to know whether there are still that number of unsigned supporters out there or whether we've already milked most of them. In 2019 the previous record year before that the increase from this time to the 31 July cutoff was only 2,298. Let's hope the membership systems in place now are superior and we'll get there. The club is obviously being more creative with memberships now like the 6 game memberships for $66 which ultimately helps attract sponsors as the membership total goes up and hopefully helps with numbers at games.

Wonder what % signed on late last year to snatch a Grand Final Guarantee?

Club emailed me. I'm offering up a 666 membership to anyone or anyone who knows anyone who might be hard up, or wants to introduce someone new to football, a refugee especially. I can't attend the games. Sounds shallow, but the person needs to be politically aligned. No bigots please. Otherwise, DM the details and I'll buy them a membership. Easy as that. Let's get to 65,000!

It's worthwhile calling the membership department offering it back, as they encounter numerous people who are unable to afford a membership at the moment.  You can then be sure it will go to a good home.....

Thanks George. It's a bit of an effort for me to do that at the moment. Do you know if I can just buy one and transfer it?

I wonder if the 60k will be mentioned on the banner this week? I mean, I don’t know if it will, I’m just thinking it should be. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
JK I just finished helping to make the banner. I’d tell you all what it says but then I’d have to kill you all. That’s a helluva lot of homicide right there.  The logistics are mind-boggling.
This is how the Army roll…

I cut out the straight-edged letters coz noob. Soon I’ll be entrusted with the rounded letters. One day I’ll be Master of the “O” ❤️💙

Not sure if possible - GFG sold out many weeks ago.
I missed the boat on that one 😔

You would still have to contact the membership people to record who to transfer it to....

Bit of a left field idea (more for attendance than memberships) but wonder whether a ballot system could be in place for finals (particularly grand final if we make it) where the more matches someone attends, the more chance someone has in the ballot of getting GF tickets.  I know there's the GF guarantee option in the membership, but I think it would be good to reward the supporters that go to most games and might be an extra incentive for supporters to show up.

there's some merit in this concept, but don't know how it could be managed

i get peed off with people getting finals tickets and never attending a home and away game

as long as it's a smart system - I.e I'm a MFC/MCC member, I've been to 7 games this year (inc Goldy away) but my MFC membership has only been used once during this season as I went through MCC the other times etc.

Other than the GF for other finals at the G just about any member that wants to go will get a ticket.  We won't be playing finals at Marvel.

In 2018 we were allowed two tickets per member vs Hawks and Geel, even for 3 game members.

This year getting two tickets per member is unlikely if we play Ess, Coll, Rich or Carl, otherwise it is hard to see members not getting a ticket.

GF is automatically rationed by the GFG.

true for members. but there is still some for the general public and i think dfa is suggesting that these should be prioritised by attendances (whether as a member or otherwise)

but like i said it looks too hard to manage

p.s. there were 10,250 public tickets at the smaller optus oval last year, so it's a substantial number

It is a worthy idea by dfa but there is no way to track how many games non-members attend, short of Ticketek collecting the team someone barracks for which isn't going to happen.

Members and non-members alike will go thru the same chaos with Ticketek as 2018 finals all scrambling for tickets at the same designated time.

Yeah I guess what I was proposing was less about this year... but doing away with the Grand Final Guarantee option (which admittedly is less $$).  But it then offers an extra incentive (A) for members to sign up and (B) for them to attend as many games as possible.  Not sure what the net $$ result would be.

Agree with LH that this is only an issue for the grand final - unless playing someone like Richmond, most supporters that want to go to any other final will be able to get a ticket.

Also agree with DC that this would be too hard to track for non-members. .  But it is something they already track for members.

Edit: And @roy11 - I'm a MFC/MCC member too... pretty sure they track how many games we go to regardless of whether we use MFC or MCC.  Someone else could confirm.

Just another 1964 and I will be closest to the pin. Lol.!!!

Great achievement, hopefully most of these 60,000 will be attending home games and finals.

I don't think the general public has access to GF tickets (unless you're talking about the $2k packages they have with a breakfast and footy record included?)

Non members fo not get first option on tickets to Finals  ( first 3 finals games not GFinal) but the usual ration of tickets up to 8 or 10 for Members I think allows tickets to be bought for non members ( Correct me if I am wrong there as I never have bought other than for members.

Non members have to purchase when GAdmission  tickets are on sale generally the next day.

GF tickets are dominated by our GFG and then a ballot I think of members without the GFG, for  the remaining allocation. The previous paragraph then is played out if any are remaining.

Seems to me it would be easy to monitor the usage of Members tickets to keep a record for priority by the  club for allocation in order.

attendance is, relatively speaking, a bonus

Would love the commercial dept of the club to comment on this notion.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
