Thanks for posting that article.

But does anyone know how to access the actual AFL rules that govern drafting, F/S, rookies etc.

I've looked but can't find.

Like so many “rules” in AFL, much is made up on the run … which club, which player, what does ch 7 and Fox and Sportsbet think????

To get back on track is there anyone on the site that has any inkling what has transpired between the Brown family and the MFC. I find it a bit distressing that the MFC have not commented on Kynan or his aspirations.!!

Not distressing in the slightest IMO that the club has not released any confident information regarding any conversations that may or may not have taken place between the club, a potential draftee and his family.  In fact I am glad they are keeping it quiet (assuming that this is the wish of all involved).

I read the Herald Sun this morning and the MFC has nominated Kynan as a Father-Son recruit.

And thank christ for that.

I have no idea why it has taken so long for the club and the Brown family to be united on the wisdom of this.

But I did have a chat to dad Nathan at training during the school holidays when Kynan joined in with most of our sessions and he was your typically proud father sitting well back observing from under a tree on the Punt Rd side of Gosch's, but one well aware of the difficult road ahead.

For those of you too young to remember, Nathan was one of the fittest blokes going around in the early naughties and provided great run off half-back and had some memorably duels with Stephen Milne and other small forwards.

He wasn't a thumping kick but he was mega courageous and my guess is that his son is imbued with the same qualities which were pretty much on display all year for Oakleigh and Vic Metro.

His dad told me Kynan's much faster than him and a better kick and can play inside as well which basically means he's well worth drafting. Given the lack of hype around him, it does sound like he will go just after our pick 42, which is a bonus.

Delisting Kye Turner gave us four picks and hence three draftees plus Kynan would be a good result.

In my experience, men that could play tell everyone within earshot their sons are better, those of us that were not so good tell our sons that we were better and definitely braver.

Saw Kynan play, has ability...congrats to all.

Just checking:

Has Kynan nominated MFC for f/s (giving us the opportunity to draft him under f/s rules) or has MFC committed to taking him as f/s?

He can nominate but that doesn't mean the club is committed to taking him.

I doubt he will be bid on so the club will either take him as our last pick (like Woey jnr) or rookie

Its official the dees have nominated him, he will most likely be a very like pick like Taj was or will be a rookie selection, he looks like he could be a great player maybe a steal in this draft

I'm happy he looks very good but I am still a little upset we delisted Kye Turner after one season deserved at least one more year he struggled with injuries sure but he could have done alright

Where is the official announcement? I've looked everywhere. It's not on MFC website or twitter, AFL, any papers website.

If he is nominated and no one bids on him the AFL rules provide the following :-

8.8 Father/Son Rookie Pre-Selection

(a) Subject to Rule 8.8(b), where an eligible Father/Son Player has been nominated in accordance with Rule 8.4(b) and is not selected at a National Draft or Pre-Season Draft Selection Meeting, the Club with whom he is eligible as a Father/Son Player may include him on its Rookie List prior to the Rookie DraftSelection Meeting in accordance with Rule 10.4.

(b)Prior to the inclusion of a Player on its Rookie List underRule8.8(a), the Club must provide to the AFL written evidence of the Club’s and Player’s agreement to be listed asaRookie. That agreement must specify that the Player can and will only be listed on the Club’s Rookie List if he is not selected by any Club at the National or Pre-Season Draft Selection Meeting.

Yes good news if he’s nominated and MFC accepted.  He’s not top 20. Maybe not top 50. But he’s a late pick or a steal as a rookie.  Huge engine. Determination plus.  Plays like Libba.  Needs some physical growth but he’s a goer (like his Dad).

Please don't remind me. And a fit Grundy watching from the stands.

Brody might have been fit but do we know it he was willing?

Schache only needed to take a mark near goal really or shepherd Clarry’s kick through!

Once again the preciousness has got the better of you and others.

Money, Money and Money simply means "A lot of money". Simple as that. What you read into it is your issue. There is no negative projection on BB and if you take the time to not be outraged you will see that clearly.

Lamb signing Brown for 4 years when he came injured is the error. Is that hard to work out?

Most Dees fans will always remember BBB as one if our best recruits in 2021 even if he never plays another AFL game.

His part in 2021 was tactically and structurally so valuable in our forward makeup. His height far too tall for the Dogs defence and as he marks with his hands tall at the top of his leap he was unbeatable that day. At the game and on the replay his 3 goals one on the second third and fourth quarters were all classical high marks and confidence boosters to all our forwards.

While it’s frustrating he had had multiple mainly knee injuries since no one could have predicted that.

And he is a coach in the making if he wishes to go down that path.

I hope he can get back to full health so to with Tmac another great Clubman and either get games in AFL again or help our young forwards along and keep the pressure on them.

Let’s not cast them aside let’s half glass full for 2024 for all our list of 44 or is it now 42?

I watched his last games for Casey. He lifted and definitely looked like someone trying hard to get in the ones. And why wouldn't he, demons were a big chance for a premiership and every player covets those !

Great that we have nominated Kynan. Hopefully he develops into a good player. He is deceptively quick and plays the Dees style of contested footy.

No one is asking to cast him aside. Just questioning the wisdom of a 4 year contract and the resulting clogging up a list spot in 24.

Because he had kicked more goals then any other player in the last couple years and you give him 4 years to get him to your club

I thought it was one of the better pieces done by the herald sun on Melbourne for a very long time and a good photo of the young man and old  man .

Really pleased this has occurred

not sure why it took so long. But at least it’s good. News in clear air no adverse news stories.

i think it’s important to give past players kids a chance to make AFL

the Wizards boy did not make it but did get a chance. The same decision made by other clubs, but he got a chance.

be good to cheer on a Brown White Woe and even perhaps an Ooze

go Dee’s

Some very smart goals there and not too shabby on the tackles as well. Go Kynan Brown.!!

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
