Agree LH Rosman good size, long kick can take a mark, just injury prone and couldn’t get a good run at it.!!

If he doesn't get a home, I hope we rookie him    He's the sort that could develop later than most if we can afford the time.

The Original post of this thread on Nov 26, 2021 was:

The list for our next Premiership 🎏🏆 tilt is:

image.png.c7ea0056cd90a355e1302134a738d547.png

At the excellent suggestion by @La Dee-vina ComediaI have identified the Premiership 🎏🏆players.

Draftees added are: van Rooyen, Howes, Woewodin as Senior List players and Moniz- Wakefield as a B Rookie.  This gives us one list spot for a senior player if we were take a Delisted FA or and A Rookie in the SSP draft or the mid-year draft.

Note that Jordon is now officially a senior player.

Milestone games in the 2022 H & A season could be:

  • 200:  Melksham, T. McDonald
  • 150:  B. Brown, Salem
  • 100:  Hunt

In terms of 2022 contract renewals:

  • Most of the 2022 OOC's will sort themselves out.
  • However, Brayshaw and Hunt will both be Restricted Free Agents (See edit below).  I can't imagine that either will want to leave and we would get comp draft picks if they did.  Of interest is the length of Brayshaw's contract given that his contemporaries have long terms.
  • Jackson is said to be in contract discussions.
  • And of course, we would all love it if Oliver's contract is extended next year rather than wait with much angst to his RFA year of 2023.  Can't see him wanting to leave.
  • I love all our players and don't like to think of departures.  Nonetheless, next years list management could be challenging as those OOC in 2022 are either Premiership 🎏🏆 players or have yet to play a game.  The exceptions are:  Baker, Bedford and Smith.  Hibberd may be a retirement depending on how the youngsters shape up.

Overall, it is a very stable list for the next few years and is a list that can go back to back.

Edit@old55has advised that Hunt and Weideman will be 'Unrestricted Free Agents' so have reflected that in the table with 'FA'.  With Brayshaw it is a bit harder to tell whether he will be an RFA or a UFA.  The difference being that with the former if there is an offer to him we can match it.  With the latter it means we can't.

Late Edit:  Judd Mc Vee added to the A Rookie list.

The  only list spot we have left is one B Rookie.

LH - this is an awesome piece of work.

PS: You need to adjust the premiership icons which are a bit out of whack since the delistings. Thanks TA

Shame for Rosman.  Delighted Mitch went out on a Premiership high.

Edit:  Tomlinson is contracted to 2024.  I will fix info in next version

Thanks Luci  Really appreciate your ongoing work on this data base

Invaluable reference for me and I'm sure many others on here. Have a great offseason mate see you next season

Thank you.

I'll start my DL 'offseason' after the Draft and return when training gets serious in the new year.

I'm not yet 100% sold on Tomlinson being contracted to 2024 as reported by a reporter this week. Sam McLure has also said on SEN this week he's only got 1 year left. Back in 2019, the AFL website has an article that said until the end of 2023. Fox Sports and The Age said 2024. If I was to bet on it, I would say it's 2023.

Still struggling to see why we signed Spargo to 2025.  Lots of question marks still over him and the role/value. Lots of similar type players in other clubs and in/out of the league really.  To extend for 3 years , he must have been on a low $$ contract.

Yes it is a long contract for a player of his ilk. At least when, the 12 times a game, he has the ball you know it will be used constructively. As you pointed out he is probably on minimal dollars.
Im more concerned with 4 more years of Salem on what would be considerable more of salary cap pie.

are u going to be updating this per deal @Lucifers Hero or just on mass at the completion of trade period

Updated for:

  • the departures of Jackson, Bedford, Hunt, Rosman and M. Brown.
  • Tomlinson shown OOC at end of 2024 was end of 2023.  Still uncertain.
  • Chandler's promotion altho it won't be official until draft night.  Have assumed draft pick #86 will be used for that.
  • List size information has been updated.
  • Draft pick status for 2022/2023 has been added to the table.

Players still OOC are:  Baker, Hibberd and Melksham altho the latter two appear certain to be offered one year contracts.

Baker is an interesting one. You'd reckon if we were going to delist him ( which was generally considered likely )we would have done it by now.

Maybe hinges on if we trade for someone like Hunter.

Give Salo a chance Champion 2021 and got injured in 1st 5 mins if the season snd was bought back in AFL  too soon as was Rivers Lever who continually got injured.

A lot to unpack there.

Some contract info still to come and those players are in the boxes shaded 'orange'.  I think we will lose Baker as we are getting tight for senior spots.  Based on the current mix we have one spot left unless we go in with more senior players next year.

Updated for the departure of Sam Weideman and the arrival of Grundy, Schache and Hunter.

I've included the Draft picks for 2022/23.  We have a very nice little pot to play with:  13, 37.  Freo F1, F2 and our own F1, F2.

Amazing to get the calibre of players we have for late draft picks and the loss of loyal servants who deserve to chase opportunities elsewhere:  Bedford, Hunt and Weideman.  And of course there is the wantaway ruckman!

On balance we have greatly improved our list.

Post Trade Week

Thanks for this invaluable work! Based on what Tim Lamb said earlier in the week around draft picks we won't use, it sounds like we'll be using two picks in the draft (13 and 37), and it wouldn't surprise me if we packaged one of them with a future 2nd to move up further.

It looks like the writing is on the wall for Baker, and Hunter's inclusion definitely doesn't bode well for him. It wouldn't surprise me if we re-draft him in the rookie draft, given that the club clearly still rates him a bit (otherwise he would have been chopped at the same time as Rosman).

After losing Jackson, Daw, and Weid, we obviously need more backup ruckman. Unless we have someone in mind at the draft, you'd expect we'd use at least two rookie spots on rucks, possibly one on a developed ruck from the 2nds leagues or a delisted ruck. I wonder what happens if a decent backup ruck gets delisted by another club - would we increase our list size to bring in a DFA or would we take our chances in the rookie draft?

The AFL has a max list size of 42 players (plus 2 B-Rookies) so to get the DFA ruckman and 2 draftees we would need to have one less A- Rookie compared to the 2022 mix.

Has the 42 list size been finalised? I haven’t found anything on it. I always thought it was going back to pre covid rules of 44 + cat b rookies.

Haven't seen that but if there is a report for that I'm happy to change the chart.

Listen cobber if Goodwin and the FD don't think the game and and the list( too slow too small too few skilled kickers) is ok and they just need to change "ins " for "outs" and not remedy some of the above defects with players who are ready to go ,then he wasn't watching the top four in the finals.

The "dynasty " is now off the pace  and likely  fighting for their hold on the finals  not just the double chance and with Clubs building behind them

Stubborn narrow mind will get found out in a changing game.

One winter of cloudless skies then .... poof it's a deluge!!

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
