Interesting discussion. I, like others, doubt whether Baker will make it and Rosman is a long-term prospect. Howes looks to have a bit of class about him and certainly enough toe to make the wing his own. Another needs selection which is a good thing.

Some clearer Howes footage here

About 1.40 in he has a run down the wing and he reminded me of a young Robbie Flower the way he moved, very smooth.

It was encouraging to see. Our midfield lacks another player who can tuck the ball under their arm and go for a run.

Wouldn't shock me if we throw him in the centre bounces to be honest.

It wouldn't surprise me if this kid becomes a very good player for us, he seems to have an awareness and is always looking for an option. I'm very glad to see him on our list.

We had a Jason Blake and a Matthew Blake who played reserves for us, but nobody with either a Christian name or a surname of Blake has played a senior game for us AFAIK.

I'm just waiting to see Blake Howes chasing down Dan or Sam Butler so the crowd can yell out "I'll get you Butler!" (bit of a throwback for the older posters there).

That is so bloody funny.!!

Just watched his interview with Benny Gibson has a good head on his shoulders, he is quick, takes a good mark, is very clean with his hands and is always looking for a teammate plus teammates looking for him. After listening to him and JT I think that we have another quality player here. He is 6’3 and Rosman is 6’4 they both have pace and good overhead capability. Howe is ready made Rosman a project let’s see what Chocko and Yze can do with them.

Spoke to two people in different AFL footy departments today and both said to me unprompted that they where  looking at Blake seriously for picks they had before we got him. One ended up drafting based on "needs" he was filthy as he wanted him but got overruled. Said he was a beauty and would've gone higher if he played more this year.

It took paying top dollar for Langdon and shifting Gus to really fix it but to stay at the top we need cheaper home grown options pushing up.

“The Demons handed over picks No.22, 79 and a future second-round selection for the 23-year-old, while the Dockers gave up Langdon, pick No.26 and a future fourth-round selection”.

So to get Langdon we paid a future second rounder (pick 38 2020 - James Rowe?) and dropped 4 spots from 22 to 26 which got us Rivers (after dropping back a few more spots)

In summary we got an out and out bargain

That's going back a fair way. Interesting times when our tv content was probably more English than Yank. Although I do recall love they neighbor to be pretty racist.

I loved the two Ronnie's but going back even further was Dads army.

I discovered it on reruns on foxtel only later. It has to be one of the funniest shows ever made.

I think we are in uncharted territory.....the first Blake to play for the Dees, I think....

One quick scan of AFL Tables later, and I can confirm that Howes will be the first Blake to join the red and blue.

Oddly, we've also never had a Jacob on our list before. Closest I could find is Graeme Jacobs who played in our '64 premiership side.

Yep Geelong seem to have been around for ever.

Seriously, Dads Army - very funny, though they shouldn't have made the last season.

Don't tell on me but I have used some lines from Dads Army on Demonland.

I would say he just hasn't drafted any which is the main problem.

Stretch was an inside mid at junior level. He was a father son and I wouldn't blame Taylor for Billy not making it on the outside.

Baker with a later pick isn't looking good.

Too early to tell on Rosman.

Jordon probably should have been developing as a wing but the club put him into the inside mid role.

Taylor simply hasn't drafted any wingers or KPF to make a call in my opinion.

You don't lose your right to make a call whether you have chosen correctly previously or not.

if that was the status quo very few decisions may be resultant in life.

Hmmm.

Correctly identified Bowey last year and started a thread on him.

Demonland recently had a post which mentioned WJ talking to a recruiter.

WJ promoting Howes in previous threads and now started a new thread dedicated to him.

WJ clearly with the good sauce  🤔

Welcome to demonland Blake Howes.

Or its just a coincidence 🤷.

I remembered this post & had a little chuckle to myself as we took JVR!
Little did he know...

Agree.

While some may have him penciled him as a winger, i see him more of a 3rd tall defender in the Jack Gunston role. His high level work rate will enable him to be able to work up and down the ground. He's also a strong contested mark as well.

With Blake Howes coming in, I'd really like to see Rosman trial up forward over the pre season.

Andrew Mackie did cross my mind. Hopefully better than him though.

to bring the topic back to howes, we looks like a membrey-type to me more than mackie

be interesting to see how they develop him cos his marking, decision-making, and his disposal all look good in that 2-min clip

I know that coaches decide where they think a player is best suited to play in the team not where JT thinks is his best position.

A pretty revolutionary concept duzza.

I’m sure you’d find JT would know where the coaches are planning on developing him.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
