Are coffin nails tougher than ordinary nails?

I'll have to add this to the list of life questions that I'm putting together from Demonland statements, including:

  • do fish really rot from the head?
  • do cats really have hard heads?
  • are snakes more likely to be mad if they are cut?
  • is the statement "could be anything" always a compliment?

I'm sure there are others, too.

Would make a terrific coffee table book.

Would buy. Please link you online store once you get it written.....

Thanks for this.

I really wish Robbie was alive to see this. Hopefully he knows about it somehow.

In another Time and Space, he KNOWS! A close family member said as much!

I’m pretty sure this is an example of a mixed metaphor. The two separate expressions are ‘as tough as nails’ and ‘(the final) nail in the coffin.’

Lever was the first name i thought of.

Second was McDonald.

Based purely on the language that seemed to be spiked with a bit of humour, I was thinking it had to be either Max or Gus (or both, operating in podcast mode).

Lever, just tends to fit with his media persona and acumen I think!

Which reminds me of the Goon Show and one of the characters, an undertaker, mangling the metaphore by saying, "You've hit the nail right into the lid".

Hard, I love the Goons too but only knew them through cassettes. Was the Telegoons a TV show or video of them doing the radio show?

My favourite quote has to be "He said said that's a nasty lump on your bonce mate, and I said where? And he said there, and he pointed it out with a dirty great club!"

That would be Willium from the one where they were ancient Britons invaded by Rome and ended up at the Colosseum.

from "The Silent Bugler":
Seagoon: Wait a minute. How do I know you're not enemy agents. I want proof of your identities.
Bloodnok: Very well, my card, sir, Major D. Bloodnok.
Seagoon: My card. Captain Harry Seagoon.
Eccles: Here's my card.
Bloodnok: The two of clubs!

I will give you another quote, said day after GF….

”makes it very hard for young players to return home (to play AFL) when they know they have a 10 year reunion to attend”

Reunion? This lot will still be in their premiership window in 10 years time.

I remember that.  I think it was after he kicked his brilliant 'soccer' goal.  As he walked back to the middle he was snarling!

Lab playfulness + Doberman snarl = lethal combo!

Trac was in full berserker mode after that goal 😂

I'm not sure Mazor, I don't think it's that one. I wish I still had the tapes. I am remembering it was about WW2. I don't recall hearing a Roman one. I'll check around a bit to confirm. BTW, my favourite episode was always The Red Fort, where they built a gun boat in the dessert.

There's one called The Histories of Pliny the Elder

I bow to you Mazer, it was Willium, and the episode was Histories of Pliny the Elder.

It was a Goons show made for television in the 1960’s, using puppets and voiced by the Goons themselves… Sellers, Seacombe, Milligan etc. It was brilliant.  There were about 26 episodes made and each ran for about 15 minutes.

As for quotes, one of my favourites was:

<knocking at door>
“Who is it?”
“It’s me!”
“It can’t be. I’m in here!”

I'm sure there are a number of younger Demonlanders who have read this thread and are still scratching..... their heads, asking; who?, what?, when? Probably followed by comments about an older generation. Should be thankful they know who Ronald Dale is I suppose.

Which episode of the Goons Show were they in?

Tmac style of phrasing for mine, Lever doesn't talk like that.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
