Yep.

He's only been banging on about it on this thread a thousand times like a broken record.

Your second paragraph assumes your first paragraph hypothesis is wrong. It’s a risk or it’s not.

Its a risk and I hope it gets Freo to give up something of value.

West Coast will pounce to facilitate a trade*

Why would a club black list itself for no reason? Not only would we never deal with them again, they'd then carry a reputation that every club would be aware of when dealing with them. So it's absolutely in their best interests to make a fair trade with us if Freo don't come to the party.

My assumption is that Jackson has told us that Freo is where he wants to go but if they can't get a fair deal done for the club, he'd be willing to go to West Coast. This is based on the fact that he hasn't come out publicly to nominate. He is being fair to us as we were the ones who drafted him, developed him and ultimately invested in him.

Could have reached an in principle agreement already.

The issue for Freo is getting the capital to satisfy our want.  Once they've done that we can get the Grundy deal done

And the Grundy deal has probably been agreed to as well

List management starts really early these days ... for instance the Scully deal was done at least a year out (in my opinion)

There no chance Jackson goes to the PSD or plays for us or sits out a year. You chest puffers need to give that rubbish a rest. He’s most likely going to Freo and an outside chance to go the WC. We’ll get fairly compensated and move on. I’d be astounded if at the end of the trade and draft period this club isn’t better off than it was before.
Player movement is now part of the game and we’ve be adept at using it to our advantage.

but the hwfua deal was completely different in many ways. there was no trading with gws at all

There's talk that freo have offered 13 and F1. Problem is we want that straight up, and they want something coming back.

If we're happy with 13 and F1 straight up then I do think this deal will get done sooner rather than later.

Sure, but I was talking about any sort of deal being done really early anytime by any club.  And used the Scully deal of 10 years ago as an example

Gone are the days where clubs waited for the off-season to trade players

As an aside, I reckon all the clubs know how much any player earns and for how long.  At any club

its not a deal worthy of a Pick 3, rising star that will get $800k a year for 6 years. There simply has to be a top 10 pick. a top 10 pick gives us the chance to split the pick as well

Zero chance we get a top 10 pick from fremantle. Especially now that port is after JHF.

Unless wce come to the party and split their pick 2 then we're getting unders. And even if they did, it would be something around say 7, 24 (F2) vs 13, 10 (I expect freo to fall next year). I don't think there's too much difference between those two offers.

there is not zero chance, but it does appear unlikely. And he is not going to WCE. Just wont happen. This is why all along i have said this will be nearly the last deal done.

Nope. Took him at 16 and after four pretty uninspiring years, traded him to SA for pick 12. At the time, a reasonable deal.

I do not want to see Jackson at the Eagles. The Eagle will bounce back up the ladder if not next year soon after, Freo will always be a basket case.

The following top 10 picks I think are more gettable than the others:

Pick 5: currently at Adelaide, on the way to GC who seem keen to spread their list with future picks

Pick 7: at GC, on the way with Bowes, possibly open to Ess or Geel downgrades. Bombers need more picks, Geel could use more to get trades done

Pick 8: at Port, possibly on the way to North who could do better with multiple picks to restock their list

Pick 9: St Kilda, think they’ll value multiple picks to restock their youth

With 3 of those picks set to move hands I don’t think a Jackson deal will be quick if we want to make sure a top 10 pick comes with it

I honestly don’t understand these people who do not rate LJ and just want to get rid of him for whatever….

The best thing about this post. Been going on now for 125 years.

we didn't want him to go tho

also, he was building beautifully into the player he became at the crom - a 300 game, best and fairest winning, powerhouse midfielder

Absolutely. He is a Life Member of the Club, who was loved by all

Agree with that WSW. I s'pose my point is that after 39 games at the Deez, it wasn't obvious to me he was going to be the wonderful payer he turned into at Rundle Maul. We sure could have used him ah?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
