The main question is what type of person is LJ, if he wants to leave and get to Freo he would expect Freo to compensate the MFC with appropriate value.

If they don't he may chose to stay at the MFC rather than go to WC.

I believe Freo 1st this year and next year + Blake Acres may be enough to satisfy the MFC.

Yes, if Brodie wants to get to the Dees and we value him appropriately- he simply has to name us and stipulate that he doesn’t care what the terms of the deal are - he is either staying on his current wage or he is going with the $500-$600k MFC is offering and the max ND35 they are providing the Magpies.

Jacko is currently contracted to MFC

He has said nothing other than he will look at his position at the end of season to negotiate

One addendum to this - he can’t say this, for his own sake, if he is just another ‘iron in the fire’ for us that we are looking at. 

So his management would need to be on the phones a lot…

Waiting to see if West Coast is going to make a move. They have pick 2 which is ideal. If Jacko wants to go home to Perth then we should be looking out for our own interests and send him there. Offering 2 mid first round draft picks and possibly a player doesn't get it done with Freo unless it is a high quality player like Serong or Young IMO.

That never happens. Did Tim Kelly go to Freo when they had the better picks? What did GWS get for Jeremy Cameron? We are not going to hold Jackson to ransom as much as some supporters would like it to happen. If he nominates Freo he will get there and we will have to take their mid-teens pick, possibly with their next 1st rounder and hope they fall down the ladder next year. Or we may take them then look to trade up.

Exactly, similar to what Geelong got for Kelly and similar to what they paid for Dangerfield.

More power needs to be given to clubs around player movements. Given the recent trade deals for arguably lesser players at the same point in their respective careers (Jeremy Cameron), if we were to take anything less than let’s say WC #2 & 2023 1st Rd for LJ & 2023 2nd Rd we would be getting unders.

Only three years in the system, this kid hasn’t even scratched the surface of his talent! Trading for only around/ less than what we gave to get him in the first place is a terrible outcome given the failure rates of draftees.

It disappointing that the league took Mac Andrew from us last year with a strategically placed rule change, now we are perilously close to being shafted a second time within 12months!

I have little idea about trading, but surely a proven quality young player is worth a lot more than a couple of early picks given what a lottery drafting is. 

Lets be honest, there is still not one Journo who has been prepared to say whet the deal will be that gets this done. They are all happy to say its happening and its a lock, but none of them has any idea.

In a hypothetical scenario if Luke Jackson was to nominate for the National Draft he'd be the number one pick by a fair margin. Using the AFL's draft formula pick 1 equates to around pick 5 and 13 combined at a minimum on the points calculated. That's not even factoring in that Jackson is already playing at a good level and has proven to be a good player as a Ruck at the age of 20. His ceiling is high and will most likely become an even better player and potentially the best Ruck in the game in a few years. Based on the offer Freo are rumoured to have offered it has to be a block buster compensation if they are offering $1M per year. Like you said a combination of 2 picks both with a value of less than pick 10 doesn't equate to pick 1 on the AFL's own points calculator.

Should the the MFC look at getting decent value according to the AFL's own calculation criteria then the only way this get's done is with a pick in between 1-6 and then another pick from 6-12 or a good player and even then it could be unders as Jackson is a tangible talent whereas picks are still highly speculative even in the top 10. There is no guarantee the 2 picks for example turn out to be a 50 game player let alone a 200 game star which Jackson looks like becoming. I assume that the MFC like in their past dealings will let Jackson leave if he wants to go, however the deal will have to be good and I doubt that Jackson would leave if the compensation isn't deemed adequate.

Personally I don't see how Freo get this done based on what we are hearing at the moment. However WCE may be able to satisfy us if Jackson is desperate to get home. It could end up being the case that the compensation package doesn't meet our preference and Jackson whilst wanting to return home is still ok with staying and looking after us and would be willing to look at a trade in the future if the chance arises. Maybe this has been discussed with his management. I recall similar occurred with Hogan and when we were happy with being able to turn the trade into a win win then the club pulled the trigger. I doubt the club will do it if we don't think we can turn this into a win and the way the club has been dealing with players in the last 5 years or so has ensured that the club can deal with the player in good faith and communicate openly so that if everyone comes to the party we all win.

Spot on, and there is no doubt it has to be a top 6 pick and another under pick 15. Again, how this happens no one really knows. I suggest Luke is very keen to get to Freo, and that it will happen, even though West Coast are sniffing. History says most get to the team they want to (with a couple exceptions - Cerra last year being one). Its going to be really challenging to get what we deserve in my opinion with out Freo having the collateral to get inside the top 10, let alone the top 5/6.

There are a lot of strategically placed rules in the AFL, like the rule that makes the Dees play at Cats ground 29 times in last 30 years while Blues, Bombers, Pies and Tigers never see the place. Another rule is the one that allows Cats to play bottom 2 sides twice and hardly play any top sides twice.

If Lobb moves to WB, Freo will get pick 11 (Finals dependant). 

So pick 11 + pick 14 + next year's Freo first rounder (with 2nd going back maybe).

Dogs won't give up first round pick for Lobb, might get late second round for him most likely third round
