If it’s just about going home, he should be open to us trading him to West Coast.
I don’t believe he’s really that home sick if he is only wanting to go to Freo.

I didn't say he is homesick. As for wanting to play for Freo, I'd say that West Coast would find it harder to free up cap space in the short term to meet his asking price. And I'm sure Freo were in his manager's ear as a possible trade for Cerra.

There are a couple of factors in play as to why he wants to return to Perth. Neither of which involve the Melbourne FC. I'll leave it at that.

Then why the secrecy?

Ok Sorry I didn’t see you had retracted “official” but a mild criticism of one word is enough to make you reconsider how much info you pass on?  Surely not.

Can you blame him/her

people are getting a tad too demanding

Thanks for the mail D11

I think it's reasonable for mo to give some vague info this way.

He has told us that it isn't an issue with our club. Indicating it's not a player rift, a coaching argument, poor facilities, poor offer from us, etc.

It's good info to share to us.

It's something personal for the player that mo knows and says he won't share. Which sounds pretty reasonable.

I actually meant why the secrecy from Dogga, not mo.

well if the main reason is returning "home" no matter what, then there is no incentive for freo to pay the big money reported. seems to me freo should only have to offer a realistic value and term, say $700k x 5 years. He'd still only be 26 years old and if potential realised could grab another 5 year deal on big money.

If he's already committed to returning to WA then no need for freo to over-reach contract-wise

Anyone else heard that peanut Craig Hutchison on Footy Classified twice now talk about West Coast walking LJ through to the pre season draft for nothing? WTF is that guy on about? Surely we can't lose out of this if Luke decides that he wants to go back to WA?

You need to chill out.

Of course we can get nothing through an unlikely scenario.

But Craig Hutchison is banking on your neurosis firing up so he can get people watching and listening to his nonsense.

He is a gangster, and not the ‘fun’ kind. He is Jabba the Hut of the footy world and the quicker you help Leia straighten that chain - the better…

So what do reckon the offer might be? (if indeed, he is getting an offer elsewhere)

I would not have a clue but that amount (10.5) sounds like something from Alice in wonderland. It is way too high.

Perth has two clubs. If he’s wanting to return he needs to be open to go to either of those clubs. It gives us much better bargaining power.

If as you said he is not leaving because of anything to do with the club, he should want us to get a good deal in return. We invested pick 3 in him just 3 years ago and in return made him a rising star winner and premiership player.

Because they're of a private matter.

Just to be clear mo, I wasn’t asking why the secrecy from you. I was asking you why the secrecy from Luke. And you’ve answered my question. Thx 🙂

Then why doesn't every Victorian kid that wants to come home, say they are open to go to the club that has the most draft capital to offer. These deals are orchestrated well in advance.

And who knows, Jackson may be like Buddy and end up at the club that no one suspected. I haven't been told he's going to Freo.

You may be right about the amount but 10 years ago Scully got 6 million over 6 years with $2Million in his first year (a signing on bonus?)

My opinion is that Jackson has got a big offer on the table (who knows how much?) and it's more a matter of closing the deal (between the clubs) I may be wrong but there's a lot of smoke so the fire can't be far away

Remembering that we got what we wanted from Freo in the Hogan deal (pick 6 & 22 turned into May & Sparrow) so the relationship is established with that club (at least somewhat)

Langdon was secured from Freo for a swap of 2nd round picks and we gave them a future 2nd rounder ... the deal was done with a minimum of fuss as I recall

What's your opinion?  Is Jackson going or staying?

That makes no sense if you say he wants to return to Perth? His options are down to just two.

And of course these deals get orchestrated well in advance. But if Jackson has said “I want to go home make a deal happen with either of the WA clubs”, that puts our club in a very different position than if he says “I’m out and I’m going to Freo only”.

Probably going but not too sure. Why can't he be traded to Wet Coke ? If it is just a matter of going home then a better deal can be done. No matter what our relationship with freo is we have to look after no1 and I believe Wet Cokes first pick and a decent player like Allan would be the best option.

I seem to remember that in early 2019 (the year that Jackson was drafted) there was all this talk that both Freo & West Coast were going to draft this new 'Wunderkind' player that was this tall ruckman/utility/midfielder (Jackson)

Of course we gazumped both WA clubs by trading up to pick 3 in the draft to secure Jackson ... in that same draft Freo had picks 7, 8 & 9 so maybe they've had their eye on getting him back since that time (the one that got away)

Edited by Macca

you can shave about $400k off the rumoured per annum salary indicated by sumich, and even then it's STILL $2-300k a year more than we are offering

i'm going to be shattered if / when he announces he wants to return to wa, as i think he's a generational talent

if the rumours are true re his reasoning behind wanting to go 'home' are personal, so be it

at this stage, however, he's an exciting, promising talent rather than the whole article

I believe Freo actually offered 2 of those picks for pick 3 to try and get Jackson

The rumour with Jacko was that he would re-sign for a couple of years with us if we couldn't be satisfied in a trade with Freo.

With all the talk now that he's definitely gone there's two possible alternatives.

1.  People are filling in the blanks and jumping ahead of the game when in fact there's been no further progress

2.  There has actually been progress and the two clubs have an 'in principle' agreement

I think it's clear he wants to return to WA, but It's not clear that a deal can be done.  The reality is we probably won't be any the wiser for a little while yet.

Could be that Freo got in first with a big offer and there is an in principle agreement on the table because of the offer (via his manager of course)

Money talks with these sorts of things so it may be that the offer ties in nicely with the go home factor (not the other way around)

Therefore, West Coast may not even be a factor at all

But I'm only speculating as I know about as much as the next person (3/5ths of stuff all)

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
