Can this thread be merged with the Jessie Hogan thread.ย  It would reach the Sun (and back!!)

After 60 pages of nothing but speculation - reminds me of sitting in the backyard watching the grass growย

If Jackson was to leave, the solace (and denial) I'd take on, would be that he hit his ceiling in a GF, even at the young age of 20,. How? Because the opposition were completely unprepared for it - Gawn takes an extended rest at the most crucial period of the game, and this unicorn draft freak, Luke Jackson comes in and his follow up allows us to have an extra mid and exit the centre bounce at an advantage that nets us 3-4 crucial goals - a lightning strike if ever there was on. Much like with Boyd, the true Norm Smith of 2016, Sydney were completely unprepared for Boyd to go into the ruck and dominate - Jacksons legacy might be just like Boyds - Helped turn a game, because the opposition did not do their homework and prepare, because there were bigger threats to prepare for - and he got under their guard.ย

And I probably will be completely wrong about it, but who knows - maybe what we get for Jackson in a trade if he wants to go- will even the ledger, or put us ahead with what we get/draft: because Jackson was simply a lightening-in-a-bottle freak of nature that dominated for a 5-10 minute patch of 1 grand final that ends up defining his career, because he never reaches the same heights over in WA. Haha. Let's hope so, if he goes.

ย

And the footy public love defining the future worth based on a handful of performances. I get that he wiped the floor against an average ruckman in English during a quarter in a GF when we were loosing. It is an amazing feat and will never be forgotten for its significance to the MFC. But as i have said previously, he hasn't been busting the door down that would warrant that kind of money so we would be foolish to try and match until we are convinced that he's the real deal, which wont become apparent until he his at least 23-25 yo.ย

So if he is offered what Freo are indicating, then the trade price for them will need to be considerable. 2 first rounders and anย  established first 22 player.ย

Without Max and TMac, we'll learn a lot more about Jackson's true value in the next few weeks. And the same can be said of Weideman, about to turn 25ย  and probably facing a challenge which could be make or break for him at AFL level. Speculation about Jackson's future is pointless. If he is determined to leave, he will. For the club, trying desperately to hang on to an unhappy player would be disastrous. Naturally, I hope he stays, and ditto for Brayshaw.

I shudder at the thought of another trade period trying to get a fair deal over the line with Peter frickin Bell....

it's a bit of a myth that he's that hard to deal with

we got the hogan deal done to our mutual satisfaction, blues and freo worked out the cerra arrangement

it's in club's best interests to work out deals rather than [censored] each other around

the jackson hately from gw$ to the crom is the exception not the rule

Freo supporters suggesting their current and future first rounder for Jackson for the free agency compensation pick we get for Brayshaw (assume he leaves) and our second rounder.

Or Bailey Banfield and Ethan Hughes for Luke Jackson. No draft picks involved.

Meanwhile our supporters want two first rounders AND a Caleb Serong, Hayden Young or Andrew Brayshaw.

Going to be a long second half of the year and trade week....

WCE has a better pot of gold for us I feel, if LJ was to leave. LJ is young enough that the Eagles could afford to spend 3 - 5 years building around him. History tells us they've been a lot more efficient than that rebuilding teams in the past.ย

If the eagles are realistic about rebuilding with honesty, they'd be looking to improve the draft positioning by offloading some players that may have value to other teams, thinking McGovern, Yeo, Darling, Sheed, Barrass, Gaff (for example).ย

Packaging some of those guys could net them a bounty of picks, to add to the likely No. 1 they get this year and another top 5 pick next year.ย

Really hope youโ€™re correct there (with the stepping into his place not the going bit) ย and Weid goes on and has just as good a remainder of his career as Jackson.

Yep spot on. However you overlooked the 3 years they'll play at MFC first in order to qualify for the minimum age requirement at the cattery.

As hard as I try, I have given up trying to understand what this sentence means.ย

Should that be "and"?

Get Clarry signed & Gus for that matter, the fabric of the footy club

Youv'e nailed my fear Billy on this.ย  In early 2000's after the GF in 2000 we lost Woey.

No matter the reasons, at the time I saw this as an unravelling of a team by losing a much loved member.

Clarry and Gus are these types big time, plus many others. They must be looked after as 1 Club players for the Dees

I love Luke jackson but culturally he isn't the glue within the club like these two are. (and that's not meant to be disparaging to Luke, just that he didn't go through the hard times and re-bulld like many others.

yes. thats the way i read it. Basically we give them LJ, Brayshaw (because lets face it, he wont go anywhere else) and the compensation pick we get for Brayshaw and our second rounder for two first round draft picks.ย

They really a card short of a full deck over in the west if that is what they are saying.ย

You donโ€™t get rid of players like Brayshaw ย just for the hell of draft pics, this is how clubs fall apartย

If Gus wants to stay he stays

Not sure even Freo fans would suggest we hand them our compensation pick for the player they just stole from us.

ย

This speculation is going nuts.ย  It was suggested some time ago that Jackson & Gus were delaying contract discussions until the new CBA was finalised - does anyone have any idea when we could realistically expect that to happen (bearing in mind the current AFL mens' CBA runs over 2017-2022)...?ย

I dont think its even legal.ย

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven Mayย

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
