We are the REIGNING PREMIERS, Mazer!!! The mighty Dees. Our team. Us. MFC.

And just like the annoying Toyota ad, and I think I speak on behalf of us all…

I’M STILL FEELING IT!!!

β€œI don’t think there’s too much love lost between (these) two clubs, both the administrators and players,” McClure told SEN’s Sports Day.

β€œThis is a rivalry full of nastiness and there’s a few things that stem from it. There are senior players from both sides that don’t particularly get along”.

β€œThe fact that Melbourne sang the same Bulldogs song they sang in the rooms that leaked on social media, it got back to the Dogs and it didn’t go down too well”

I don’t think McClure can assert there is a nasty rivalry based on us singing a song. Where does the nastiness come from? How has he formed this view? Does he explain further in the Sports Day interview? Do you have a link?

Gutter journalism - realising both sides will be strong for a couple of years, and trying to over-play a β€œbitter rivalry” that really isn’t thereΒ

There's an interview with Burgess somewhere where he addresses it - they were just discussing rotations.

It was on SEN. I heard it live. Shortly after confirmation of Burgo's move - early this week? I've gone looking for it after @FritschyBusiness's post but no luck on Google. Over to some savvier sleuth.

If there was a bitter rivalry it would have shown itself GF day on the ground.
Never like McClure since I 1st laid eyes on him.
Smug BS artist.

Nothing much on teev tonight so, hey, more replays.

Watched the last quarter of R23.

And then we were Premiers.

Like.

That."

Hamish McLachlan called it and it was brilliantly done.

That kick and the lead up to it is still the moment of the season for me.

Even if we lose that night I expect we still win the flag but it changed the path to get there dramatically.

Plus I just really love that we are both the minor premiers and the premiers at the same time.

Knockout footballer, young Sparrow. Great talents, all coming together, so look out 2022.

The experience I had with with dad and uncle was enough in itself.

After the first quarter the smile on my uncles face and my dad saying things like β€œlast time we were in front in quarter time in a grand final, we won.”

Second quarter my dad leaving for half time show, my uncle saying β€œwe had them, we were so close…”

Third quarter from my uncle declaring it over and my dad being on misery to the turnabout. Dad saying, he’d be very happy going in with a one goal lead, to the burst. They both erupted. It’s never seen them like that in a long time.

Fourth quarter, both men shedding tears. Neither are much for hugging men (I’m the only one who still gets hugs, my brothers don’t) they actually hugged each other. It was extraordinary. Being able to experience that moment with them is something I’ll never forget. Knowing my uncle doesn’t have much time left, it’s a family memory we'll always treasure.Β

It wasn’t Luke Darcy.

Don’t you ever say anything like the above again, do you hear me?

I try to be civil and then people say inflammatory things like β€œgood call, Luke Darcy??”

I can’t be held accountable for my actions.

First a confession. I enjoy watching "those 3 goals" over and over.

For a treat I will watch "that 10 minutes" and sometimes the whole 3rd quarter, with the 4th for dessert. I haven't watched the entire match yet, I gather from other comments that the Dogs had a purple patch somewhere along the line and I'm not interested in that.

And although my habit is never to watch with the sound on, I have enjoyed watching along with different commentaries, such as Cometti's.

And for an extra touch of small-mindedness, I read "match day threads" of other clubs' supporters, and enjoy it all over again as the shock and awe of it unfolds. The Cats fans are left thinking they're a lot further off it that they suspected. Port fans extremely [censored] off that the team that thrashed them, got thrashed. (Sack Hinkley!!) The Dogs fans are so traumatised they're resurrected their equivalent thread to this very one from 2016! The other clubs are thinking that was great to watch, but how the hell are we going to counter that!?

God, it's good to be premiers!

Now on to this accusation of "most hard core celebrant". Well, someone has to be. Surely Civil is a worthy title holder? Although I suspect there must be a few around who are still drinking and haven't even got to the hungover stage yet.

There is a webcast interview with Burgo on SEN you can search for it. It was about rotations. They were all good to go.

I look at the round 23 game differently now.

The comments from the peanut gallery were 'you've done nothing', 'the cats took their foot off the gas' etc

But the belief the players got from coming back against the odds at a hoodoo ground coupled with the momentum in the second half were simply breathtaking.

The 3 finals games were a juggernaut because of that momentum and belief.

And now we have a flag, the players know that their sacrifices are worth it, their selflessness is the key, there is nothingthey cannot do, there are no barriers to success any more and if they continue to work the next 5 years could be pretty special.

Go Dees

Yes considering the stadium was empty, that was an incredible effort. No Crowd to lift the players. It was just on them.Β
At a Stadium that has been tough for all clubs over the competition.Β
I turned the game off at halftime, I wasn’t angry, it was just another crappy game at Jeelong. We were still top 4.Β
But The PLAYERS felt differently and it was the first time we saw β€œscore assault”

Β

Just need to keep focussed. It’s all talk of β€œback to back”and we will setup a β€œdynasty”

LETS JUST ENJOY THE PREMIERSHIPΒ

Remember it took a lot of hard work in so many areas to achieve it. Β The hard work will need to be replicated and improved. We are now the Hunted.Β

I was impressed by the way we broke the Bulldogs spirit just before 3 quarter time. In the last quarter they never fired a shot. Completely neutered and broken they were and not a hint of token resistance. And this was a GF. it was a tsunami that hit them.

Given the crowd at Geelong is normally overwhelmingly screaming for the home side, and empty stadium was probably an advantage.

Not a tough stadium for everyone.

Collingwood,Richmond, Essendon, ,....don't have to play there. Huge advantage.

Being empty would be very hard to come back from 8 goals. Top 4 was not under threat, but the Players wanted to win. It is a game we can use next year and beyond.Β

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking?Β I mean by β€œthey” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack.Β Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winningΒ 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
