As the title says. Will be on the couch tonight for anyone that wants to tune in.

ย

Waiting for One the Couch to start, tuned in to AFL 360 listening to Hardwick and Clarkson talk around how they coach in finals and grand finals. Absolutely brilliant. I haven't paid much attention to either of them over the years, but wow, you can tell why they coached Premierships.ย

Much of what they said was a matter of balancing: player personalities, attack v defence, how much to say... etc...ย

Watched it as well.ย

Was brilliant content. You'd pay money to go hear them both talk about how success and culture is built.ย

While I'm watching both Dimma and Clarko talk, my mind is drifting away that one day that could be Goodwin doing the exact same thing in a few years time.

You'd hope so, although the Clarko premiership club hasn't admitted any outsiders since it resumed in 2013 with Beveridge defending admission!

I have mentioned it before, but I think it's a very realistic possibility. Goodwin and (going early here) Rutten strike me out of all of the coaches who haven't won one as being the ones I could see going to that Clarkson level.

Watched it.

He was so bloody good. He's such an impressive guy.ย

Seems like a legit great bloke.

Watching the Jones interview, 1 thing is constantly underrepresented. He was a bloody good footballer. Brilliant at evading in-close attention, underrated goal kicker, could run all day. He was more than a "inspiring figure" and I wish it was mentioned more.

ย

Great interview, what an absolute legend of a person and so happy he played for Melbourne. Disappointing the timing and lack of any seconds football just didnโ€™t give him that chance to push for selection. But he will always be remembered by the football club and members.ย

Whether you're 5 or 85, if Nathan Jones isn't your hero, there's something wrong.

I'd be interested to see if he wants to stay in football.

Everyone OTC tipped Melbourne to win the flag on Saturday. Brilliant.

Nathan is just so wholesome, I hope he stays involved with the club in some capacityย

You could see how hurt he is, but as he has always done, he puts the club before himself. He is remarkable. I couldnโ€™t love the bloke anymore. He is brilliant. I hope he stays at the Dees in some sort of coaching role

Seems like a very good family man too. That's important in footy clubs...

Just a phenomenal human being. Kind, selfless, thoughtful. He made tough choices for his family and he also made a lot of tough choices along his journey for the betterment of our club.ย
How easy it would have been to go to another club that wasnโ€™t a mess, that wasnโ€™t losing weekly and relying on you to carry the heavy load. Honestly who would have begrudged him if he went to Geelong or Hawthorn for a cheap flag? Absolutely nobody.ย
What he has done for our club few will be able to lay claim to. I hope he has a big smile and feels incredibly proud of this club on Saturday. Win or lose, we are where we are today because of the few like him who had the courage to stand up and be the difference and lead the way to be better.ย

The mediaโ€™s (in particular Garry Lyonโ€™s) obsession with picking at the scab of โ€œremind us bad things wereโ€ and โ€œhow unhappy are you at not playingโ€ irks me.

Yes, we all feel for Jones (I still maintain he should be playing) but donโ€™t give people the opportunity to find something negative in a week when we should be doing nothing but celebrating.

Thank goodness they followed through with his appearance.๐Ÿ˜…

If he had to bail and they inexplicably had to interview Brock McLean in his stead, I could categorically say that we are screwed this Saturday. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜‰

Blown away by the bloke.ย

no bitterness, what a legendย

i canโ€™t wait to be to stay at the G to give him a send off

And didn't Nick Riewoldt try hard to put words in his mouth to the extent of "yeah, but are you [censored] off" to try and get that negative sensationalist sound bite.ย  I think Jonesy answered it about as well as anyone could, with great humility and diplomacy.ย  He did admit an element of being [censored] off, but the overall tone of his take on the issue was so positive and happy for the team that I don't think we really gave them anything much to work with to put together their sensationalist spin.ย  Didn't stop them from weaving like 2 seconds of semi dismissive reaction from Jones into a negative slanted click bait headline:

Heโ€™s โ€˜p****d offโ€™ about reaching the end. But Nathan Jones will โ€˜never regretโ€™ his GF sacrifice

Anyways, overall great interview performance from Jones.ย  I'm sure that Maxy will get a heap of praise for the way he's bought the team together and taken them to the next level this season, but listening to the clips from the players at the start of the interview and also big Maxy himself during his podcast with Nathan before his 300th, it's pretty clear that Nathan Jones has also played a pretty decient role in even our most recient of revivals over the last few seasons driven by solid team culture.

Could not stop crying watching this.

Jones played in over 200 losses.ย

The juxtaposition is there, CB.

People are going to bring it up - we were a [censored] basket case.

You donโ€™t say.

Jones was on his best behaviour. Only said โ€œbl00dyโ€ twice this time. Seriously, I have never heard him speak - even in an interview immediately after a game - without him managing to use that word. Not that itโ€™s a bad word, but it must be one of his favourites.ย ๐Ÿ˜€

One thing I took out of that interview was Nick Reiwoldt is still [censored] off at St Kilda for giving him the flick.

And Lyon was one of the group to select Mark Neeld as coach. FFS.

On a night of counting, Melbourneย captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles atย Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckmanโ€™s masterclass in the second half.ย  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipperโ€™s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, aย career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested),ย nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.ย

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0โ€“5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
