Yze, Sylvia and Bizzell IN for next week.

Neitz, Robbo and Wheatley OUT.

Close but no cigar.

Holland is a must with Ottens lurking forward. Bad form or not, there is no way Rivers or Carroll can handle his size.

IF Pickett is deemed fit, then CJ goes out.

IN: Holland, Bizzell, Sylvia

OUT: Neitz, Robertson, Wheatley

Matchups: Holland - Ottens, Rivers - N. Ablett, Carroll - Hawkins

Forward structure:

FF: Sylvia, Jamar, Davey

HF: Green, Miller, CJ/Pickett

you forgot mooney

carrol on mooney, rivers on hawkins, biz on Nathan Ablett

we actually need ooze next week to kick some goals. i would include him. i htink the record as much as anything was playing on his mind. we dont need to worry about that no more.

holland biz and sylvia are certainties, and the 3 outs you've mentioned are near certainties, but i would as i said make room for ooze. if pickett is fit also he will play

OOPS, I stand corrected.

I think you might be right about Yze too. With Robbo and Neita out, he needs to play forward.

I'll try again:

IN: Bizzell, Holland, Sylvia, Yze

OUT: Neitz, Robertson, Wheatley, CJ

Daniher said on Channel 10 news that he will not rule out dropping Davey and Johnstone who he said were 'in shocking form'.

My changes

Out - Robbo, Neitz (inj), Jamar, C.Johnson, Wheatley, Ward

In - P.Johnson, Holland, Sylvia, Newton, Yze, Pickett

B - Whelan Carroll Bell

HB - Rivers Holland Pickett

C - Johnstone Jones Green

HF - Sylvia Miller Bruce

F - Yze Newton P.Johnson

R - White McDonald Moloney

I/C - Bate Brown Godfrey Davey

It wont happen but I like it. Shows a strong hand from the coaches position, gives a few chances (on different levels), shows the coach at least is trying to get the mix right.

Lets just play our best available side minus the injured players:

IN: Sylvia, Yze, Bizzell, Holland

OUT: Neitz, Robertson, C.Johnson, Wheatley

B: Whelan - Holland - Bizzell

HB: Bell - Carroll - Rivers

C: Green - Jones - Moloney

HF: Bate - Miller - Godfrey

F: Davey - Sylvia - Jamar

R: White - Bruce - McDonald

I: Johnstone - Yze - Ward - Brown

E: P.Johnson - C.Johnson - Petterd

On paper that team can account for Geelong it's now just a matter of getting it together on the park and not being paper tigers.

Slander,

I agree with your selections and admire your optimism but to me that side on paper looks like it will struggle to kick 10 goals.

Unforturnately with our current injuries it gets no better.

FWIW Yze to FF, tore the Cats a new one last year at KP and took mark of the year (IMO). Might be the memory he needs o get him going.

P.S. i thought G Lyons comment re: Ooze in todays HUN to be a decent summation and worth a read.

Daniher doesn't EVER EVER make 6-7 changes so don't expect things to change.....

OUT: Robbo (inj) Neitz (Inj) Wheatley (useless at afl level) CJ

IN : Sylvia (full forward) Yze (right next to him) Holland (will definately be in for matchups)

OK HERE ARE MATCHUPS

Carroll vs Nathan Ablett

Rivers vs Mooney

Holland vs Ottens

Bizzel in if they play Hawkins, Mooney, Ablett and Mooney all at one time, we simply rotate CARROLL, RIVERS, HOLLAND, BIZZ to whoever we want to match... I'd nearly out Ferg in but you can't have Ferg and Holland i think... need a bit more drive so both can't play which means Bizzel gets a gig.....

I think it simply can't just be Rivers, Carroll, Holland.. ND will have to bring in one more of Bizz/Ferg so lets hope Bizz gets a chance finally.... As for Cj he is stiff but he needs a game or two at Sandy to find the football and hopefully come back and build on that promising preseason, wheatley enough said he is soft and not up to Afl Standard when the heat is on.

Godfrey and Brown did enough to keep their spots, they can't be dropped i guess they at least had a dip.

Sylvia and Yze must be brought in, dunn and pickett simply aren't ready....

HF: Bruce, Miller, Bate

F: Davey, Sylvia, Yze.

Tell me that forward pocket line isn't what we should go...?? Sure Davey has been poor so far but his endevour alone Monday keeps him in as he kept trying all game, Yze has been taught a lesson we simply need goals and he can provide if played deep all game as he loves being one out down there, same goes with Sylvia he loves playing as a main man down there.. here's his chance...

The half forward line is the best we can muster basically, Bruce will play on Ball, Miller and Bate need to lift and get the ball in long to the potential match winners in Sylvia, Davey, YZE.

OUT: Robbo (inj) Neitz (Inj) Wheatle, CJ

IN : Sylvia Yze Holland, FERG/Bizz

tell me i shouldn't be a selector seriously.

What about starting with this line up?

B:Whelan Carroll Bizzell

HB:Ward Holland Bell

C:Johnstone Moloney Green

HF:Sylvia Miller Bruce

F:Davey Rivers PJ

R:White Macca Jones

Int:Jamar Godfrey Brown Bate

In Sylvia Bizzell PJ

Out Neitz Robertson Wheatley

Not that familiar with Geelong lineup, but don't think they are blessed with talls down back.

So Mooney or Ottens have to go back?

Plus it is very flexible - Miller Rivers Holland can play back or forward.

Sylvia Bate Can play full forward.

OUT: Neitz, Robbo, Brown, Ward, Wheatley

IN: PJ, Sylvia, Buckley, Holland, Yze

Whelan Carroll Holland

Bell Rivers Green

TJ Moloney Bate

Bruce Miller Yze

Davey PJ Sylvia

White Jones Junior

Jamar CJ Buckley Godfrey

Heres the plan!!!

Rivers - N.Ablett

Carroll - Mooney

Holland - Hawkins

Steven King is currently not playing, therefore Ottens wont be playing too much forward, swapping in the ruck with Mark Blake, so he wont be as much of an issue. Before the bounce, Carroll and Holland run striaght down to Hawkins and start their usual bump and harrass routine (hopefully Mooney is a few meters away, and he comes running in like the hero that he is and gives away a free kick)

Whelan and Bell play their usual stopping rolls, Greeny plays as our rebounder, his precision passing will be ten times better than brown/ward ect

Travis Johnstone will probably be let free this week, after his poor game, they will tag Brucey (with Ling) so hopefully TJ can play his own attacking game

If Brucey gets tagged, play him around the forward line, dropping into the true CHF area if Miller is leading high up the ground, if he doesnt get tagged, I would be playing him in usual role, making bartel or corey accountable for him

Yze back into the team is needed this week, mainly playing forward, he can go higher up the ground to get some kicks and set up some play too

Davey is not allowed to leave the 50 (unless its because he is chasing down someone) and just crumbs the packs all day, get back to his basics

PJ to stay in the square, Sylvia to do the same, both should be able to cause them some problems

I dont like Jamar in the forwardline ONE OUT - as he has no idea on body contact, positioning for a one-on-one contest (scarlett would run rings around him in this situation) if there is a pack forming, and he gets a run at it, he can crash a pack as good as anyone in the AFL, so short runs in the forward pocket is fine, but mainly bench/rucking

If Chapman/Ablett starts running riot, Godders can tag them, annoy annoy annoy (both hate physical tagging)

I picked PJ over newton for experience only, but ND might get a little adventurous during the week (if newton puts in some good training during the week, he will be in)

It's going to be one interesting forward line.

I would like to see:

HF: Bruce, Miller, Davey

F: Yze, P. Johnson, Bizzell

New look forwards, but I think PJ and Biz can do it. PJ has shown he can kick goals at AFL level, against Sydney last year he kicked 2.1 and went off early in third qtr injured. Biz was highly rated as a forward for Geelong, surely he can provide something.

I would love to see Newton given a game, but I don't think we can expect a kid to come in and kick 4 or 5 on debut.

Out - Melbournes laziness, weak mindset & general lack of heart

In - Sandringhams confidence, heart and never say die attitude.

Method - Who the F knows

Ever thought about where a side gets is confidence and strong winning attitude from???

Hint: its not the F word!!

Its the C.... word! (sshh dont dare say it out loud though)

HB:Ward Rivers Bell

C: Johnstone Mcdonald Pickett

HF: Sylvia Miller Bate

F: Davey Bruce Green

C: White Moloney Jones

Int- P Johnson C Johnson buckley Yze

NOTE

1) That we have an exeptionally TOUGH midfield with the exeption of johnstone, and Geelong are iffy under imense pressure.

2)Forward line- get the ball in there FAST because with a FF line of davey bruce green we are not going to lose many contests.

3) Half Forward line- All the boyz i have named there PRESENT really well.

4) If this tactic fails we put PJ at full foward.

5) J White can go forward for 2-3 at the end of the quater he doesnt need to be on the bench half the game.

6) Davey- Close to goal ALL GAME

7) This forward stucture will unblanance an inform Geelong backline.

8) Buckley we need someone who is hungry for the footy and in his first game he will be.

9)Pickett and Johnstone rotate with sylvia and bate.

10) We need experience and a steady head without neita and robbo. Put him on the halfback line IMO

11) Godfrey and Brown out- there disposal is disgusting. Maybe a bit harsh on godders after Mondays performance.

Problems

Until the last quater on the week end our clearances were shocking. I know Mclean is usually our best clearance player, but someone has to step up.

Inexperienced but what can you do?

If L Dunn is available does he play?

This is unrealistic but i would love to see it happend

I like your thinking, demondomination, but Pickett is really underdone and i'm not sure he's up to playing in the seniors yet. I realise that we have to make sacrifices with our injuries, but if he's not up to it then we should give someone else a go.

Davey- Close to goal ALL GAME

You are so friggen right it's not funny, the experiment with Davey in the mid-field should end this week. He's down on confidence, and is getting slaughtered by all that come his way so lets put him at the feet on the forward contests.

Fully agree DD. If you can't kick you don't play. Bruce is good overhead and may be interesting against scarlett, with Johnson as a big backup plan.

Run Pickett into fitness in the seniors from now on.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
