GRAND FINAL: Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs

Featured Replies

When we beat them earlier in the year, we smashed them in close with high pressure.

When they best us, they conceded the ruck and roved off Gawn very well.

Think Jackson will play more ruck minutes to be less predictable, and Gawn forward to stretch their defence.

We can do this, we really can.

It’s only reasonable that she move out for a couple of weeks

If your partner sees that you'll be in the doghouse FTP

Gung-ho all day, after last night, now MFCSS is kicking back in…

I'm the same. Doesn't help that my 2 sons, wife and her entire extended family are Bulldogs. Was hoping they would just fade into the night and we'd have Port or Bris in the GF to avoid the complications.

Now if we lose i am going to be reminded of it every day for the rest of my life with Weg posters and all the other memorabilia! And if we win my sons are going to be gutted!

And by the way they were magnificent tonight. It's going to take the best we have and given how deep the Dogs bat, we aren't going to be able to carry anyone. They will apply pressure to us from minute 1 to minute 120 and we are going to need to scrap like we never have before.

Will this be a repeat of 1954???Smith had resurrected the Demons, the doggies won their first flag.

Oi weh, here's hoping history does not repeat.

'The season opened with a loss, and Melbourne barely scraped into the finals with a last round win against South Melbourne despite having a percentage below a hundred. They then pulled off a shock victory against North Melbourne in the Semi Final before pulling off an even bigger upset in the Preliminary Final to send minor premiers Geelong out of the finals in straight sets.'

That was 1954...

This game will be won at ground level. If it’s a dry game, I think we’ll win, but if it rains I think we’ll be really challenged.

The WBD last played at Optus Stadium in June

They won both their games there though this year.

Important to keep in check are:

Naughton - May or Petty

Libba - Harmes (hard tag at contest then run off him)

Smith - Brayshaw

Daniel - ANB (or Spargo)

We have plenty of weapons that they will also have to counter.

It will only play out two ways,

1. You get to have more kids and be happy

or

2. You will never get to have more kids or be happy

Either way you lose......

The only two teams I thought could beat us if we managed to get to a GF were the Bulldogs and GWS. Really wanted to face Port.

Sure, we're good enough to beat them, but everything has to go right.

That said, the best defence usually beats the best offence.

We now know what they got and where they are at. Port thought it was a stroll in the park until they got mugged. I expect any complacency or overconfidence to be wiped.

Stat wise it was very even that second game. If memory serves me right we got murdered by the umps and d50 stoppages and inaccuracy in front.

update: 11 - 25 free kick count.

2-10 last Quarter.

It’s going to be a brutal contest that for sure. A war to decide the premiership

Tell her the government announced Stage 5 lock down starting from midnight tonight for 2 weeks, the parents have to be isolated in they home in different rooms, you are going to look after the kids.

To make me feel better, can anyone mount a case why playing the Dogs is better for us than Port (if they had shown up?

I distinctly remember being unworried by the dogs after that game. Everything went right for them and still we almost got them. Anything can happen in a GF but we should go in with a lot of confidence.

Please please please, any members with Grand Final ticket priority, i want to be there to support the boys. Will pay you if required. Dont let the ground be full of Eagles and Dockers fans

We won't be complacent

Port would have been going into GF with 8 straight wins, having finished 2nd on the ladder, compared with 5th for the Dogs.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
