He does neither.

Inexcusable.

This thread really is bringing out the worst in a lot of posters.

Just continual kicking of a young player rather than actually discussing footy.

LN it is a fan web site, as a result you get good with the bad,  which is which entirely depends on your point of view.

Do you propose that people not discuss any player down on form or who is NQR?

100% discuss what's going on with a players football form, perhaps even bring some stats and analysis into it, that would be great hey? This thread has become just a 'he's a dud', 'give him away', 'can't mark, can't kick' thread where posters are just throwing silly insults that are overreactions rather than actually discussing football.

It's not a 'discussion' at all now.

I said we should let him go because I think it is the best solution for him. I honestly think it  would be best for him to start again at a new club.

Fully agree. Supposed “fans” can be cruel. I regard every player as though they’re my son. And it’s bloody hurtful to read some of the scathing remarks about them.

This is fine, what you’re saying. It’s the comments such as he’s useless, he’s a dud, he needs to find a new career, etc. And there’s so many posts like this. My heart breaks for him. It’s not like he’s trying to underperform.
There’s probs no one who wants him to perform well more than he does, himself.

What do you think the MFC/  he should do?

I've noticed that often. And what's even worse is that I've seen some people on this forum celebrate when a player who they don't like gets injured. Pretty gutless, really.

Not panic like some posters are here. He's not in form clearly, but the past month doesn't define his career. Ben Brown hasn't even played in the last month, do we write him off too? No, we get to work.

I have no doubt the coaches, particularly Williams and Stafford, will continue to work with him to help him get some form, and I'm sure Goody and Yze will be working with the midfield and forwards in improving structure and delivery to rebuild the synergy there we seem to have lost recently.

The reality of our current list demographic means Weid will likely stay IMO, unless he requests a trade himself. I believe the club will back in it's development and coaching to get him out of his current slump and get him back to his 2020 form when the coaches rated him as a top 10 player for us.

Some overreactions going on about Weid IMO.

Partly because he's been the new whipping boy since the start of the year, partly because footy forums/social media tend to make everyone make things black and white, but also because we had a poor loss and everyone looks for a singular blame point.

Apparently, despite being smashed in disposals, tackles, marks, hitouts, clearances, and having horrendous ball use, that's all on Weid. He was poor, no doubt, likely to be dropped now for at least a few weeks, but the hysteria about him seems over the top.

Reminds me of the 'Is Goodwin the right guy' thread where it's up and down based on that week's performance.

Weid will become just a good average serviceable player I reckon. The sooner MFC fans reconcile that and then manage to look more broadly at the circumstances, some of his own making, around his performances; the more reasonable the discussion will (hopefully) become.

Nah, you're blinkered. Haven't seen one person blame him solely for or the loss against the Pies.

Bar one game he has never put it together. And that was in 2018. He's gone backwards. What are his key attributes aside from being tall? He can't take a clean mark. He can't kick goals. He can't lead properly. Hell, he doesn't even tie up a key defender.

The narrative is really about letting him find form in the two's. We are simply playing one short with him in the team

And gee whiz we have a ready made replacement waiting. Two in fact.

This thread has 5 and a half new pages since the Pies game. Coincidence you reckon hey? There's also the 6 page thread about Ben Brown playing instead of Weid that was started after that game.

Haven't seen one thread started about our horrendous delivery in that game, or how our defence was a mess.

Not going to bother with the rest of your post, it's just another example of the ridiculous overreactions in this thread,

Probably because they aren't regular occurrences this year, however Weid's poor performances have been.

Sure, but I'm talking about the context of the Weideman threads and the timing of them in relation to the Pies game.

Yep I think i know who is "ridiculously overacting".

My post was pretty measured. His form his poor he doesn't deserve his spot at the moment.

I've been a huge Weid fan for a long time, but even I'm questioning why at this point. Agree the reaction to his performances are often over the top, but they certainly aren't without merit.

I'm in total agreement that he''s out of form, has to be dropped.

I just don't agree that he's a write off and that a handful of games defines his career.

Let the poor guy go.

He is obviously at rock bottom, a new club might change is mind set as it is shot at the MFC.

If the change makes him a good player then the world is a better place for everyone.

We cannot turn the Weed into a highly contributory player. We really do not have the right to keep him in abeyance within his football career. He has attractiveness within other clubs and surely, it is in his interests (particularly to blossom into what many see as a footballing potential) and the apparent de-stablilisation of our full footy team to allow him to seek his future - elsewhere, if so required. He has tried hard with the Dees; maybe someone else could elicit his full talents better than we have done.

Ironically, I reckon I've got 'more hope' because I've 'given up hope'... I don't think he'll ever be the gun player we hoped for or that some in the media thought he might become, but if he can become a solid, best 22, second key forward then I think that's ok.

For the immediate future, yeah, he may have to be dropped. It’s undeniable that he is not even close to meeting expectations. Probs should be replaced by BBB for a bit. But that doesn’t mean he should be written off. I guess I don’t know what’s best for him or for MFC. Not yet, anyways. But what I do know is that the relentless  personal insults aren’t helping with anything. They’re totally unnecessary. Constructive criticism is fine.

This thread is titled “Rival clubs circling Weids.” NOT “Let’s put Weids in the stocks and give all the “fans” on DL a big bag of rotten tomatoes.”

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
