I get it. Gaff left Brayshaw having to drink puréed food through a straw for a month. I don’t condone what he did. I’m just saying that because it was so uncharacteristic of Gaff, it can be called a brain fade. 
Incidentally, imo Gaff didn’t intend to hit young Brayshaw in the face. Again, that’s just my point of view.

The penalty is so obviously not adequate for a repeat offender. 

If you go to Court after your 22 appearance and 7th imprisonment you don't get a slap on the wrist, after being found guilty.

I thought four week was the correct punishment. He misses finals which makes it more.

However pleading not guilty.....i would have made it six.

That was one of the most disgraceful things I have seen in over 65 years of watching AFL footy.

Then after getting fined in that final for the Bont assault, he eye gouges another player the very next week in another final.

He nearly kills Dahlhaus, who is coming back bravely for a mark, by kicking him deliberately in the face, stops up. Could have blinded the guy.

But seeing as the point has been raised, I can't see what a full time, professional umpire is going to do all week to fill in the days. I am, however, fully on board with a wholesale review of the rules of the game to make it easier for umpires to do their part-time job.

well one thing they could do is run specialist coaching clinics for new and upcoming umpires. given the number of umpires required statewide and in other states this could keep them quite busy

Sorry if I'm repeating others here, but what's with the whole 'Toby Tax' BS.  I saw a stat that Toby had been charged 22 times prior to this and only been suspended for a total of 8 weeks.

ANB, Viney and a few others at the MFC would be pretty happy if the got taxed at the Toby rate.  It's like the AFL are rewarding him for being a total [censored].  Either that or the love GWS and hate the MFC.

I agree that we need professional umpires managed by a competent director.

However, it is not the umpire who is the problem here.

Toby Greene's behaviour is the problem.

If that was the case, then wouldn’t he want the hearing ASAP?

Coz he and GWS KNOW he will end up with 6-8 and they do not want any further destabilization and disruption to a finals campaign already comprimised by his actions

Dangerfield loves the sound of his own words - I wonder how he would feel if Mumford runs through him this weekend with his "careless" elbow and breaks his jaw?

Greene has had so much love given him by MROs, MRPs and tribunals over the years I guess he just knew he would get a fine.

Surely priors should be taken into account, fines included.

Mumford is another thug who regularly gets away with assault and battery.

IF the hypocrites who run the AFL are serious about respecting. umpires, they would issue a statement, this week, along the lines of:

ANY contact with an umpire (other than a truly accidental contact in the course of play) WILL be suspended for at least 4 weeks.

ANY prolonged or aggressive dissent to an umpires decision, WILL result in a free kick and a 50 meter penalty.  IF implemented fearlessly and impartially this would end immediately.

 

I've written before on Demonland one of Toby's mates got in a fight at a nightclub and Toby was on crutches, hobbled his way into it and started smashing the other bloke with his crutches.

He couldn't even walk but he wasn't going to miss out on a fight.

Irresepective of what happens today, I can't believe there is still discussion about whether Toby Greene should be captain of GWS. One of the major themes of this year's Premiership has been selflessness. There is nothing more selfish than putting yourself regularly in the position of being suspended. I would be horrified if my team chose an habitual offender to be captain.
