Which Dees Players Grew Up Supporting Us?

Watching an interview with Harmes he talks about his passion for the dees as a supporter growing up.  Imagine that.  Imagine being a fan, just like us, been through all the [censored], played through all the [censored], and now he has a real chance at contributing to a painfully long wait for a flag.  Ef me, but come game time, in the rooms before a game, he surely must be one pumped up young footballer over the next few weeks.  Tipping him to go nuts.  I'd be a frothing animal if it were me.

Do we know if any other player grew up supporting us?

Wasn't a Melbourne player but Chris Judd was a Melbourne supporter as a kid and I think Scott Pendlebury might have been one too

And Buddy Franklin too.  Garry Lyon was his hero.

Buddy Franklin! Is this true? If so, sorta makes me look at him in a different light. I mean, I wouldn’t love him or anything demented like that. But I probably won’t hate him as much.

Ollie Wines?

Don’t think so, he was an Adelaide born boy. His Melbourne connection was that he and Viney were best buds so he was really close to the whole Viney family.

Wines was and always been a Echuca born up in regional Victoria.

The connection was when the Vineys moved to Moama. Todd became coach of Moama and Jack and Ollie went to same schools.

Jack was a Melbourne supporter, but then switched over to barrack for Mark Philippoussis.

I don’t get this but I’m laughing nonetheless. 😆

David McKay of Adelaide comes  from   a keen Dees family.

His  grandparents  used to sit  behind us at the  MCG, sometimes bringing  him as a little boy.

I  wonder  if Joel  Smith barracked for us ,or North.

CP went for Collingwood, but I  think he  goes for  us now.

I used to go to games with Dave. Old school mate. Always hoped we'd have a look at getting him come back home. He's been such a consistent player for the Crows.

Todd (Jacks dad) took (in my opinion an ill timed) year out of football to go and be a coach for (up and coming, but ultimately disappointing Australian tennis player) Mark Philippousis.

It was 25 years ago and I’m still salty at him about it.

Chris Heffernan...

Tim Taranto from GWS was a very passionate Melbourne supporter. To the point he use to sit with the cheer squad a fair bit.

Tim Taranto had to be talked out of getting a MFC tattoo in the year of his draft. He is a gun coming into his prime. He is one I believe will come home to support his childhood dream.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
