If Weideman does get traded (god forbid), we may then have something to trade with. No? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think we have a few options that may generate a 1st round pick.

if Cerra does nominate us then you can bet your bottom dollar that we have a plan to get it done otherwise he wouldn’t nominate. in fact I think the fact that he hasn’t nominated Carlton yet is a good sign that we are in the running.

Very true. Might be waiting until our finals journey is over before announcing. Leave us to win the flag first 🤞🏻 no distractions.

I've had a squiz at that thead. FMD you'd be worried what Freo fans would value Cerra at if he had actually achieved anything yet.

I've only had a quick look and stumbled on the post above.

But yes the debate in that thread contains a lot of hurt feelings.

I don't blame Freo fans, I'd have been upset as well if Jackson (for example) said I'm out see ya later. I understand they want to maximise the return, but demands and reality are two different things.

Unfortunately we will all have to wait until a club is nominated otherwise Freo can just sell to the highest bidder.

Worst case for Cerra is that he ends up in the draft

The way I look at it is that we wouldn't be going to all the trouble of actually sitting down with him and having a meeting if we didn't think we could strike up a deal.

Ralph is just trolling.

We could easily strike a deal. If Freo are so hell bent on first round picks then:

We land a pick in the 20-30's for Weid (Probably from North, GC, or Coll)

Package up that pick with our second rounder to send to the dogs for their first (they need points for Darcy)

Dogs 1st + Our Future First for Cerra (even though I think that's overs).

I like it - nicely explained (I always lose track in the fine detail).

Subsequently - people on Demonland can then complain that we have paid overs for the first 2 seasons at The Demons, much like Lever, or May, or....

He's trolling Carlton fans really. Should be thousands of them getting uber angry at the thought Cerra may go elsewhere.

Are Freo likely to take two picks around the #15 - #18 mark?  Which become 16 -20 after F/S and Academy picks.

Draft points calcs aside, Freo would probably prefer Carlton's pick 6 (that will become 8) especially as they need to pay for Neale.  Brisbane already have picks 14 and our 2021 1st (15 - 18).  They will relish pick 6 and probably demand it.  Freo drove a very hard bargain for Neale to Brisbane and while they may not get the same value back they are likely to extract fair value.

I like your reasoning as a basis for a trade but not sure Freo will take two very low 1st rounders.  I'm guessing any deal for Cerra needs to help Freo get Neale.

We will need Adelaide's Pick 4 (6) or Gold Coast's Pick 3 (5). Cerra went at Pick 5 and with 76 games already under his belt I think has held his value. Late first rounders will not get it done in my view.

Is a pick 3 or 4 overs? Perhaps just a little so we should probably demand a 2nd rounder in return.

Question is how do we get either of these picks. Plenty of players on the trading block / fringe (Sparrow, Weid have been mentioned), but none of them would command a pick that high unless we sent both Sparrow + Weid to GC? But then Pick 3 would feel unders.

If and it's a big IF, the Sparrow to Adelaide rumors are true.

Brisbane send Neale to Fremantle.

Fremantle send Cerra to Melbourne.

Melbourne send Sparrow to Adelaide & Future 1st Round Pick to Hawthorn.

Adelaide send former top 6 pick Fischer McAsey to Hawthorn and a later pick to Freo.

Hawthorn send Tom Mitchell to Brisbane.

There would need to be other pick swaps etc involved, but end of the day you end up with;

Brisbane: OUT Lachie Neale  IN Tom Mitchell

Fremantle: OUT Adam Cerra IN: Lachie Neale & late Adelaide pick

Melbourne: OUT Tom Sparrow & Future 1st Round Pick  IN Adam Cerra

Adelaide: OUT Fischer McAsey & late pick  IN Tom Sparrow

Hawthorn: OUT Tom Mitchell  IN Fischer McAsey & Future 1st Round Pick.

So Hawthorn will need a little more and we probably have to give up a little more. Otherwise that's reasonably even IMO.

If we land this guy is his nickname going to be Kaye?

Totally agree. MFC and other clubs of interest would normally have made representations to Cerra and his manager in season and by now they would know who they want to go to ... it's not good footy etiquette to then nominate a team if they are still playing finals footy ... also not good practice to nominate anyone too early as you want the clubs to try and out bid each other in the belief a few extra $$$ will get it across the line ... for mfc, the trade may also be linked to someone like Weid and others moving on so those negotiations and trades need to evolve also ... I remember Mahoney saying openly that the May deal wouldn't go ahead unless Hogan moved first  ..

So Ralph did state he thinks MFC is Cerra's main priority ... he just forgot how creative MFC are at moving up the trading order and that they can make it happen 9 times out of 10

It was a comical response by Ralph. "Can't get it done cause they don't have a first rounder." Case closed? FMD lol

That's like a re-enactment of a lunch break inside the truckies crib room where I work. Snorting and all.

Just needed them to talk about fishing gear and boats to complete the picture.

How was this framed? Because saying his "main priority" is us is quite a big statement to just throw out there...

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
