    Go home factor?  seriously thats been something happening for years, it's not new, but more importantly it isn't valid in that he states Qld and WA players want to go home, hmm, so do Vic players and SA players. But apparently this is somehow more valid because of Tassie and his dislike of the state.  

    The issue is more the tone of 'Imagine 20 year olds sent to Tassie wanting to stay past 2 years' Tasmania is no longer a convict settlement... that view is rude and pathetic and as I called out wrong.

    Today is a hugely significant day for the AFL, for Tasmania, the people, the former players and it's just tiring listening to someone constantly troll and slag off Tasmania or the team that is coming. 

    If you think that a Tasmanian team won’t  face player retention issues stemming from lack of team success and players not wanting to live there then I don’t think you’re being honest with yourself. I’m happy that Tasmania is getting a team but not as a 19th team, the competition can’t sustain 19 or 20 teams at the moment. The AFL thinks the revenue from the broadcast deals is the answer to everything. We currently have the last two expansion clubs struggling on and off the field as well as North, Hawthorn and the Eagles struggling on field. The Suns should fold allowing Tassie to become the 18th team, GWS stay for now only because they’re playing some home games In Canberra. Depending on what plays out in the future the AFL could also fold GWS and look to put an extra team in either in S.A or W.A.

    You’re not the only person to live / have lived in Tassie, I get that you’re passionate but that doesn’t automatically make you right.

    The new stadium as a pre-requisite is an arrogant stand from the AFL but I don’t think it is wrong to want a standard in each state for a team to have in a stadium. 

    Now the ‘nay sayers’ are leaning into the lack of spend of housing and health and as someone who works out of Canberra - I have heard this refrain before - we can walk and chew gum at the same time.

    The arts and sport can have money spent on it, the endangered species of native frogs can have money spent on it, and we will have enough money to spend on health and housing - no matter your politics.

    They are putting a third of the money…

    I have run out of patience on this - kill the stadium and you can forget about the team. Like it or lump it - that is the game.

    The new team needs a stadium that can support fans and is a centrepiece of TV coverage with a big supporting footy crowd.

    Watching the empty Giants stadium at their home games is soul destroying and I am sure the broadcasters hate it. 

    There is no doubt that a Tasmanian team would bring tourism and money into their economy, which in time would repay any contribution to a stadium and provide many extra benefits for the State.

    However, if a vocal minority ruin this, that is the end of a Tasmanian team now and for the foreseeable future and so be it.

     The AussieFL  creates dud 18s in the rugby states then handcuffs young victorians et al to go and live/play in those same states via the draft. I for one would like to see some international standard table tennis facilities installed right across the country courtesy of us tight****- taxpayers.  After all, if we can subsidise aerial pingpong then there is no reason why we can't challenge the Ma Longs, Fan Zen Dongs and Alex Le Bruns of the world down here on the ground.

    For those who thought inviting Tasmania to join the AFL was an intricate political game it's nothing by comparison to what the NRL will have to deal with if PNG asks to add a team. China influence anyone.

    Marape will become the first PNG Prime Minister to address Australian parliament next Thursday.

    He is expected to raise the issue of funding for the bid from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which will be crucial if the NRL is to be persuaded to invest in the rugby league-mad nation. A $600 million investment over 10 years has been widely reported but is yet to be confirmed by the Labor government.

    While PNG’s enthusiasm for the game and potential as a talent nursery is obvious so, too, is the logistical challenge of having a team playing in Port Moresby. There are also longer-term queries around recruitment and player development.

    Violent riots that engulfed Port Moresby in early January, in which 22 people were killed, resulted in Marape declaring a state of emergency and intense criticism of his position.

    More importantly, it's about perception with TV broadcasts too.... if the stadium is constantly 80% full, the ambience, the sound, the visual appeal is so much greater than a big stadium with huge gaps.  We all saw that in COVID and it was horrible. 

    We are still seeing it at GWS / Gold Coast stadiums whereas Tassie is a AFL footy state and should be able to get 15 - 20k on a regular basis, a lot of opposition supporters would also travel to Hobart so great for tourism, we love Hobart.!!

    crowds make a negligible difference to the bottom line tho

    a 19th team brings no value into the competition

    they will need to add a 20th quicksmart

    Is that why The AFL have to pour millions into the GC/GWS coffers?  Crowds do matter when you talking about 10,000 each week at home and away venues involving these 2 Clubs.

    Their bottom lines would be reasonable and AFL not have to prop them up after a decade.

    Whilst we were on the bottom we had to endure two expansion clubs and free agency. If clubs don’t get their picks and performance in line between now and 2028 they’re in for a rough ride… or if they’re in VIC the risk of being moved.

    Ideally they fold a Victorian club up. Will never happen but 18 clubs is enough.

    I think the tasmanians have got a far better case than richmond to be called the tigers

    so richmond should rebrand.  i'm suggesting the "ferals" with appropriate imagery

    Agree Mr Mumbai however everyone knows that the AFL is only a "good news" organisation.

    Out of interest had North taken the money and gone to the Gold Coast where would the team be located to even the numbers or would we be without Freo?

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
