There was some footage on Gaff last night from On The Couch.

It was pretty damming to say at least. Little 15m chip backwards that resulted in no forward thrusts.

If anyone can get the footage that would be helpful.

Saw that last night. I suspect this is their game plan. I doubt he was like that a few years ago but TBH don't know his play well enough to know.

This has been a significant part of Gaff's game for a long time. He simply has no hurt factor and as Garry Lyon said, it's also been part of his natural game for a long time.

32 disposals for only 284m gained is not good numbers for a wingman of his calibre.

The game plan itself is outdated and ordinary.

I'm not advocating we get him just pointing out that he's playing the game plan the coach wants.  I don't think it's his fault, I think he's doing what he is being asked to do.

He would want too much and I don't think he's worth it.

I think it's 50/50. Their game plan was always built on the chip around style and overwork teams. Certainly helped his short 15m passes.

But I think this is also been his natural game well before simmo came on board. Simmo just strengthened it even further.

I'm still on the offer up Brayshaw for Cerra.  The wage wouldn't be to much different.  I just see Brayshaw as a player that has some value that we can cover with others on the list.  He would slot into the centre square next to his brother and Serong at Fremantle and Cerra would slot nicely onto a wing for us.

You’d need to offer extras in the deal to get Cerra, he still has scope for improvement, Angus on the other hand is a known commodity.

Yeah, I saw this on OTC. It's game plan and structures. Anyone saying we shouldn't go after Gaff, if the price is right, is kidding themselves. We went hard for Smith, thought we had him and then he chose Geelong. If we go close this year, players won't be picking an aging Geelong, they'll be picking us.

Article today online regarding Ben King becoming available end of 2022. My view is so whatever you can to snag him. Free up salary cap etc.

I get that it’s a long shot but Tigers getting Lynch gave them an extra two premierships that they couldn’t win with Riewoldt alone. They got rid of a few players along the way so it wasn’t an easy call.

I'd trade Steven May for him.

Many on here would think Nibbler and AVB would get it done.

Depending on how this year pans out, I could be convinced too

On 3AW Matthew Lloyd listed 8 players who should figure in trade discussions-

• Geelong’s Charlie Constable and Quinton Narkle;
• Western Bulldogs’ Mitch Wallis, Pat Lipinski and Ed Richards;
• Richmond’s Mabior Chol;
• Adelaide’s Tom Lynch and
• Melbourne’s Sam Weideman.

Haven't watched Lynch this year, but have always wanted him on our list. How has his form and fitness been this year? and comparatively v Melksham, who he'd be in contention with for a half forward role in the 22 next year, if we gave him a years or two contract?

I suppose with Melksham perhaps playing a role in the finals, and being contracted until the end of 2022, there isn't much point, unless his upside for a few years is worth the small gamble?

The most recent evidence suggests he is a long, long way ahead of Melksham.

Believe Lynch has missed a lot of footy this year through injury but he’s a much more consistent player than Melk and definitely knows how to play a role, plus he’s taller and harder to match up on.

100% on the money. Lynch is in the same fold as Melksham. There may be a little upside but not worth the extra salary cap space imo.

I'd love Maynard but i think the club still rates Lockhart really highly and expect him to be that small/lockdown defender role next season

Haha come on fellas, Gus is ok but Cerra is incredible

Maybe you haven't been watching enough Freo games but he will be a star of the comp in 2-3 years (if not sooner)

If we could trade Gus for Cerra that would be one of the all time steals for us

There is no chance this happens though.

I agree with you on Cerra, have watched him a bit this year.  If he is leaving Freo, why wouldn't we see if we can add Gus and some picks to get him.  You have Cerra on the wing and it really completes our Midfield.  The Dockers have some really good young players on their list getting a player like Brayshaw and a pick will add more than Carlton's first round pick.

As a player who wouldn't entertain an offer from a team that is sitting on top of the ladder.

You have to be careful with Gus. He seems like he’s a part of the fabric if that group. That’s from afar, but footy teams have a delicate culture if you don’t respect that culture.

    UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
