I received an email overnight from Zero Hanger, an on line footy news site, that had links to a number of stories about possible AFL trades. I’m sure there will be more to come but here’s a summary -

• after Adelaide delisted Tom Lynch, Kane Cornes was urging them to hold on to experienced players such as Daniel Talia to guide the youth through their current rebuild (the suggestion has been rejected and Talia has also been advised that he is no longer required at the Crows);

• Lynch is a free agent and one scribe weighs up the clubs that might want him. Essendon, Geelong, Melbourne, Richmond and the Saints are mentioned as likely candidates;

• still on the Crows, Matt Crouch is tipped to follow in the footsteps of his brother and depart West Lakes in taking up his free agency rights;

• Fremantle’s Adam Cerra has narrowed down his playing future to just two teams with a decision to be made possibly within the next two weeks. He will either remain a Docker or request a trade to Carlton;

• GWS Giants spearhead Jake Riccardi is being monitored by several Victorian clubs on his current contract situation, with Carlton named as one keen suitor for his services;

• Jack Gunston is understood to be seen as a "gettable" trade option for rival clubs in the off-season;

• Swans gun Jordan Dawson is reportedly on the cusp of signing a new deal with the Swans despite interest from a number of rival clubs;

• Port Adelaide are showing preliminary interest in St Kilda free agent Jack Billings.

And why would Carlton need Riccardi - isn't that one area of the ground (KPP) that they have a surplus of?

Daniel Talia is being delisted by the Crows. Surely he'll end up at the Bulldogs next year?

I read something today on BigFooty that suggested Talia is well sorted with property developments and will play in the SANFL with his brother

Adelaide are really ripping the bandaid off

Carlton used to have a lot of brown paper bags. Maybe they found a few left over ones tucked away in the property room?

Maybe they plan to jettison a few players themselves.

I'd be all over GWS' Tom Green. He will explode soon and his inclusion would enable us to be less reliant on Clarry and give us more midfield depth.

True but doubt we'd be able to get him - GWS will want over for him

Great player but probably not what we need right now

Any outside mids we can go after? Where are they at the moment?

Good ones are tough to find it seems. Might be better off trading into this years 1st round.

We were right into him in 2019. Probably would have bid for him if Jackson wasn't there. JT was seeing them like beach balls that year, given the three we ended up picking and the interest in Georgiadis/Green. They are 5 of the very best players from the whole draft.

I think one of the reasons we were so big on Green though was his tremendous character, and those sorts generally don't go chasing coin after two seasons. So I'd give us little chance of landing him. Would cost a decent draft pick that we don't have in stock too.

One player I'd love to see us go after is Mitch Wallis. This guy is out of favour but tore us a new one at Metricon only 12 months ago, and was doing it to teams regularly up until this year. Would give us more firepower and a point of difference to BBB, TMac and Fritsch. Approaching 30 but this age demographic fits in with a sustained flag push and he wouldn't cost much.

I reckon you'll usually be able to prise a GWS mid as they seem to grow mids on trees up there (mostly through their academy).

I'd be thinking it's less about coin and more about opportunity. Lever is a great character too, but we chased him hard and landed him.

I really hope we're still keeping tabs on Tom.

Richmond might have a crack. They have the draft picks. He was a big Richmond fan apparently.

But the ither half is on massive coin.

They'd have Cripps, McKay, Weitering, Walsh, Saad, Williams and Martin chewing up a fair chunk of the cap.

Maybe we can pay them back for taking our big Melbourne fan in Dion Prestia? 😉

Didn't they turf his brother out for releasing Bulldogs gameplan info to Daniel? Would be weird if he ended up at the Dogs after that.

Moving on from Murphy, Betts, Casboult and Ed Curnow could clear some cap space?

Yeah true but I reckon the dodgy half is on very little coin. Not great for team unity when imports are on massive money and aren’t delivering while ‘home grown’ talent have to take the hit. Williams especially was a terrible decision.

Ed Curnow resigned for another year.

Riccardi showed a bit in his first few games, might be worth having a crack at him over another mid like Green

Think he is from Werribee? Choco may need to have a little word.

    THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

    Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
