Yeah I agree with that as all members will be catered for after the corporate fat cats are catered for first.

However I can’t see the members allocation being anywhere near taken up due to draconian border rules and thus plenty of GA will be available.

Not just border rules but also cost and, if it's in Perth, flight capacity. While the airlines would love an excuse to fly lots of planes from Melbourne to Perth, realistically it won't be that many, keeping in mind they will only fill those planes in one direction (unless they just hold them in Perth for the return trip - an expensive opportunity cost).

I've got a grand final guarantee so would be mortified to have the game played in Perth if we made it that far. We'd have to quarantine for 2 weeks and face extortionate flight prices. Who the hell can afford to take 2 weeks off work in this economic climate? If it definitely can't be played here I'd prefer Adelaide where fans of each side can at least drive there in nine hours and not be captive to price gouging airlines. If the ground holds 10k less than Optus they can add 16% to the cost of the tickets to make up the shortfall in revenue.

I've just emailed the MFC with regards to the GF Guarantee.  They were nice enough to carry last year's GFG over to this year, but now I'm a bit concerned that they might no be so forthcoming this year, and with Sydney pretty much odds on to still be in lockdown and Sydney-siders rightly unwelcome anywhere outside of Sydney, and if Melbourne do make it to the big dance, there is zero chance we will be able to avail ourselves of the GFG again this year.

Re: Adelaide, have you seen/heard the Tea Tottling Nancy state Leaders talk about anyone entering that state? Would be just as hard as getting into WA, whilst Melbourne is in its particular climate.

I'm sure Alan Joyce will be happy to have the GF in Perth, so he can recoup Air Fairs he has lost.

Apart from the fact that I'm unable to grasp the point you're making, you do realise that you're somehow managing to attribute a quote that I was responding to in my post, to me?

Further enforcing your point!

I got the first Pfizer last tuesday. I've got covid brain.

I've been keeping an eye on plane tickets for Perth, they are climing day to day. On Tuesday after mermerings of the finals series being in a Perth hub + GF.

From Adelaide a return flight with Virgin was $380, last night it had gone up to $430 return.

They will exploded once an announcement is made. It may not happen at all but the AFL being the AFL they like to soften the public up before an announcement like this is officially made.

I hate Eddie McGuire but geez I wish his idea would work and would happen so the MCG could be full in grand final day and us (hopefully) being there :(

ahhh well not much we can do. We were doing so well. I must admit being back at the footy made life feel back to normal a little bit

If they announce that Vaccinated ppl could go to the GF. They would have 50k Dees members vaccinated in a week!

Hi hardtack, thanks for the heads up on this. I seem to remember getting an email last year about getting our first final free for 'donating' our membership fee to the club but for the life of me can't find the email anywhere. What you seem to be saying instead is that the cost of the GFG wasn't added as part of our membership fee this year and instead was 'carried over' from last year?

Well, during last year I had questioned them about what would happen and was told that it would be carried over to 2021 and I would hear more when membership payment was due. Next I was informed my membership fee had been taken and I noticed they had included the GFG in both mine and my son’s payments. I then contacted them, reminding them of what I’d been told via email and they then eventually made the adjustment, refunding the GFG costs.

Cool. Might be worth me checking my monthly payments as well to see if they charged me for it again this year.

Geelong V Melbourne almost a certainty a to be Saturday night.

Back to back 6 day breaks.

If we finish top 2, Pert wants the qualifying final at the MCG, even in front of nobody.

Tom Browne at half time was "reporting" (by his standards anyway) that he thinks the AFL is going to scrap the pre-finals bye.

Imagine if we get the Friday night final in week 1. Three consecutive six-day breaks.

Surely not.

We’ll be well and truly cooked if that happens. Has the potential to derail our premiership dream.

Remember in rounds 12-15 of 2017 we went Monday-Sunday-Saturday-Friday night. Sure we one the first of those 3 games but didn’t have anything to give in that Friday night game Vs Sydney.

I think that is an overreaction - I think they would be fine. Plus the geriatrics in Mordor don’t get a week off before finals to recharge and deage.

If they scrap the pre finals bye round 23 will be a [censored] show, no way us or Geelong would play our best 22

Given the current hot spot declaration, doubt anyone from Victoria will be leaving the state soon - unless they have exemption - wherever finals are played

Well you may regret your action Hardwck now that the GF is a distinct possibility. !

Controversial comment. I'd rather Essendon played finals than West Coast

Essendon have excitement about them and no pressure. Ripe to win a final.

For the scenario that we all want to see - Essendon playing finals only to lose them - we will have to wait until their entitled fans place an inordinate amount of pressure on them over and above what they can accomplish.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
