Geelong on alert after recording one of Victoria’s 20 new cases today

Surely the chances are slim to none

Misleading headline in the extreme.

Confirmed to have caught it in Melbourne and has been in quarantine whilst infectious.

Next week too?

Another week of lockdown and Baccus Marsh school shut again. Absolutely can’t see it happening.

Crowds in Geelong was a media beat up all the way through. It would be absolutely ridiculous to have thousands at the footy in Victoria whole cases are in the community. Why take the risk?

Saints a decent chance with finals on the line. Cats form is dipping

Good fixture for us as Dogs, Port and Cats all play on Saturday so we will know exactly what the situation is come Sunday afternoon. In my opinion, a good position to be in at this stage of the season.

Its pretty simple, beat Adelaide and get ready for Geelong which will be Saturday night the following week.

Can it dip so far DD that Cats lose their last two and Lions win their last 2? If that happens Lions finish 4th and knock Cats down to 5th. Then again, do we want two interstate teams in the top 4?

Nonetheless, exciting finish coming up.

Geelong will not lose to St Kilda. Unfortunately.

I think they could quite easily. No crowd at Cat Park. StKilda smashed Sydney last week.

You’re probably correct but we said that about the Giants last week. It’s just a bit of fun picturing the Cats losing all three home games to finish the season.

Yes it would be hilarious. But it won't happen. The saints played well last week so they will be shizen this week.

i actually wonder, given that there's the 'week off' the following week, whether they schedule it for a 'prime time sunday evening' game to try and maximise what will likely determine who finishes top of the table

I would rather forgo not going to a final in person than play a Home final against Geelong at Geelong.

Empty MCG every day of the week or Tasmania.

In the Gus and Gawny podcast Gawny mentioned we have a horrible record with a crowdless MCG. I can't remember the numbers but they were bad for a team sitting top of the ladder.

We're 0-1-3.

Lost to Richmond and Geelong last year, then this year drew with Hawthorn and lost to the Dogs.

We're 3-0 in crowdless games at Marvel (beat Carlton last year, Bulldogs and GC this year).

And we're 0-1 in crowdless games at Perth Stadium (Round 1 loss to West Coast last year).

And given that we can't be the Friday night fixture, you would think that will be Dogs and Port.  So we will know ahead of time if Port has a top 2 spot (in which case we need to win to get top spot in order to avoid playing them at home in a 2v3 QF).  If they have lost, then we are playing for 2nd or 3rd place and that would only be of significance if the GMHBA home final delusion hasn't been extinguished.....

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
