I have previously suggested on here that the MFC should co-ordinate with other clubs to lobby the AFL on providing some form of draft-points compensation equivalent to those which gained the most prior to the sudden abortion of NGA selections before pick 20 and then 40. Bulldogs points benefit then subtract Collingwood and so on. In the name of equalisation.

That concept has now become a lot more complicated, with the NGA restrictions recently overturned. I think the AFL has also since rejigged its points formula. I accept the sliding doors nature of what has eventuated, yet it's pretty frustrating to read that Andrew could now attract a $12 million offer, which should surely land the Suns two first round picks if it occurs.

After we of course spent the money on his early development. Demonland hive-mind: what would be an appropriate measure to readdress this imbalance? I believe that we can collectively come up with a new formula and then pressure the club to put it to the AFL, publicly, as a statement that we mean business and will no longer be pushed around.

Sorry I’m a bit late to the party here but I was at PFS on Saturday afternoon to watch the Demons vs Suns and it was the first time that Andrew and JVR played on the same ground in an AFL game.

I get it that form varies from game to game and Andrew has a big night the week before but I came away happy. Happy for us that we got a player who will be one of our greats in the forward line for hopefully, many years to come. I’m also happy for the Suns that they have a different type of Cat who I think will play some good football for them although he might never justify being picked in his draft year immediately after Nick Daicos.

Sorry some of Mac’s  best footy is right up there with Daicos  already. He will have a huge impact on Suns results in the future.

Yes it’s a travesty about the rules and we have been royally shafted in the Academy game the AFL presided over.

We have to move on and best utilise Kalani  etc. and our father sons who are available and ours,

If Mac does stay at the Suns, hopefully that's further ammunition for White to chose us given the young talls up there.

Sorry but, even if it's true, saying that some of his best footy is right up there with Daicos is meaningless unless he's capable of producing the same level week in week out. If he does, he will have a huge impact on the Suns results in the future but if he remains as inconsistent as he has been to date, he's not in Daicos' league and not a million dollar player.

his next pay packet won't see him being paid on what he has achieved to date but instead what he may achieve in the future

he's going to be a well remunerated professional sportsman, that's for sure

My understanding is that he has signed a deal for $12 million over 8 years at lunch last Wednesday. It is yet to be announced. My source said he will be staying with the Suns. Don’t shoot the messenger.

I’ve read some wild stuff on this forum. This is on the podium.

Maybe their best contested footy is about the same 🤷‍♀️

My undertaking is you can forget about Mac as he isn’t going anywhere.

Is that your day job?  would have come in handy at Demonland the last couple of weeks

I was visiting the local cemetery only this morning when I noticed some undertakers wandering around aimlessly, scratching their heads and generally looking confused.

Apparently they'd lost the plot.  I'm sure there's a moral there somewhere.

Are you sure it was this morning.

Sounds to me like the dead of night.

Did he pay for the lunch?

I can't believe those figures.

I think that's a very good idea.  As you say the cost to us was large.  We do deserve compensation especially now that the AFL has backflipped.  I think an end of first round pick, although it would have less value, it would be handy and probably acceptable to other clubs.

riak andrew's write-up in the rookie me central wildcard summary...

#5 Riak Andrew
Tall Defender | 192cm | 17/02/2005

Stats: 12 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 rebound 50s

Having arguably been bested by Jobe Shanahan in their previous two meetings this year, Andrew faced the daunting task once more and kept Bendigo’s spearhead forward goalless for just the second time. The over-ager stuck tight to his direct opponent and was able to nullify his marking influence when Bendigo had the wind advantage. After some tough moments in term two, one of Andrew’s best moments was a rundown tackle late in the piece to exemplify his effort and intent.

The guys at Baseline have posted some footage of Riak’s game last weekend.

That link up through the corridor and off half back. 🤩 Exciting. Ceiling could be anything.

What's Riak's decision making like as a rule mate?

From what I’ve seen a work in progress, but improving all the time.

The athletic traits are really exciting and he has competitive spirit. Getting the better of Shanahan should give him some confidence.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
