I hate politicians and unelected health officials. Anyway back to the footy why can't visiting melbourne teams do what happened in S.A.

Makes living in a democratic, western developed country a bit tricky!

I wonder what the North Korean equivalent post is on their one state sanctioned football fan forum is. Perhaps:

Sound of a gunshot shortly afterwards....

On the one hand, the fact the AFL has moved Hawthorn v Brisbane to Tasmania could suggest they can't get the Queensland sides into Victoria.

On the other hand, it's a natural fit for Hawthorn to play in Tasmania, but less so Gold Coast as its their home game. So it might be that they wanted to make the call on Hawthorn now, and if it turns out Queensland relaxes its position later in the week so be it.

I expect they'll wait to see what Victoria says tomorrow, then try to get an exemption for us to go into Queensland without quarantining, so that we can play at Metricon.

In that event, we'll then fly direct from Queensland to Perth to commence 7 days quarantine before playing West Coast next Saturday or Sunday.

If West Coast are already coming to Victoria to play Pies this week, could we be so blessed as to have our game against them the following week also in Victoria so neither team has to do the whole isolation thing?

Can't remember the last time we even played West Coast at the G.

I suggest we fly Gold Coast here, then play West Coast the following week. That means no leaving the state at all for the rest of the H&A season.... and somehow we still manage to lose both those games....

Round 2 2014. We lost a tight one by 93 points.

I don't think we've been fixtured as the home team since mid 2015 when we played them in Darwin.

Your idea sounds awesome but we'd never be this lucky.

Only two games can be locked in: Fremantle v Richmond in Perth and Western Bulldogs v Adelaide in Ballarat, though whether that game is Saturday or Sunday remains up in the air.

Foxfooty.com.au understands the AFL is set to have Carlton and St Kilda shifted from Saturday to Friday night and Essendon v Sydney moved to Saturday.

Both the Swans and Bombers have both already had five-day breaks, forcing the AFL to delay their match by a day.

All of Gold Coast v Melbourne, Hawthorn v Brisbane and GWS v Port Adelaide require a sterile corridor for teams to fly up and back from Victoria to Queensland.

If not, the league may need to look at shifting fixtures from Rounds 21, 22 or 23.

As things stand, the Demons can’t fly to the Gold Coast without quarantining, the Lions can come to Melbourne but would then be unable to go back to Queensland, while Port Power would be required to quarantine before facing the Giants in the sunshine state.

There is also uncertainty over whether North Melbourne can host Geelong in Hobart as originally planned. The Roos remain confident but have received no official word.

If the AFL succeeds in establishing a sterile corridor across Bass Strait, the Roos and Cats could fly in and fly out on the same day and play in front of a crowd.

If not, the game would be in Victoria.

Collingwood has been told West Coast will fly to Melbourne ahead of Round 20.

At this stage, the plan is for the game to proceed as scheduled on Saturday, which would force the Eagles into home quarantine for seven days when they return home to Perth ahead of Round 21.

The league remains committed to pushing through the season and finding ways to get the remaining four rounds completed. It could use the week before finals to reset and does not want to pause the competition, despite suggestions from Sydney they should consider it for integrity and fairness reasons.

The official word from the AFL is the Grand Final will be played at the MCG. But speaking on 3AW on Friday, Gillon McLachlan conceded the game would only go ahead at its traditional home if it could muster a “decent” crowd.

FRIDAY

St Kilda v Carlton (Marvel Stadium) – Likely

SATURDAY

North Melbourne v Geelong (Blundstone Arena) – Uncertain

Essendon v Sydney (Queensland) – Likely

Gold Coast v Melbourne (Gabba) – Uncertain

Collingwood v West Coast (MCG) – Likely

Hawthorn v Brisbane (Adelaide Oval) – Uncertain

SUNDAY

Western Bulldogs v Adelaide (Ballarat) – Likely

GWS v Port Adelaide (TBA) – Uncertain

Fremantle v Richmond (Optus Stadium) - Locked

Saints v Carlton on FRIDAY NIGHT. WTF.

Here I thought only the good entertaining teams got rewarded with Friday nights.

What a load of [censored] [censored].

Absolutely no reason why we couldn't fly in and out from Queensland if they're doing it in Tassie

There's no alternative, due to the AFLPA insisting that clubs do not have any more than one five-day break in the season.

The logical game to be on Friday night is Essendon v Sydney but they fall foul of that rule.

You may think our game is more deserving but I'm pretty confident the AFL doesn't really want GC on the Friday night if they can avoid it, and at any rate doesn't even know where our game is going to be played yet, so the more time they get to fixture it the better.

Channel 7 reckon we’ll have the 3:10 timeslot this Saturday afternoon.

Marvel available on Saturday. Just saying

Ugh 3:10 on Saturday is annoying
unless we are still in lockdown in which case what is even time?

With a 3.10pm start it's fair to say it won't be in Darwin then.

The title on that MFC link says “Dees to head to the Gold Coast” even though it’s venue TBC?

Suns play in Melbourne round 21. Marvel would have to be odds on to host this one.

Would be peak Melbourne to lose this game if the Suns had to bring their home game to us.

Surely we can’t be so lucky as to play them at Marvel in dry conditions.
My MFCSS says we will play them in Horsham in a lightening storm and BB’s hair will catch on fire.

Which will be ironic because it will be another wet game where the poor fella can't mark the slippery pill

The only thing more predicable than NSW asking people to stay home everyday is Chris Scott having a self indulgent sook about something every week.
Mate, just like the anti lockdown protestors, your complaints make no sense. Go home.

North/Geelong was always at Blundstone.

It would be a big stroke of luck if we get to play GC at Marvel.

Fingers crossed Queensland don't open their borders to Victoria

Agreed, but they did host the Tigers there a few weeks back so it's not an unfamiliar scenario for them.

True. Big benefit though is not having to travel to Qld and then onto Perth for the WCE game. Reduces a lot of travel for us.

Not only has Richmond become irrelevant to the season, but Hardwick has lost his title as the whingiest coach to Scott.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
