As much as I despise the expansion clubs, I have to take my hat off to Gold Coast. I hate the modern terminology of a team's "brand", but you can actually see a definite system of play emerging. Can't believe I am saying this, but I actually enjoy watching them.

Swans wearing South Melbourne guernseys. Nice touch. Just remembered that I walked past the old Brunswick Street Oval at lunchtime today and there was a junior girls game on with one side wearing the old Fitzroy guernseys.

It's important to the future of the game that GCS have some success. All those Auskick kids up there drowning out the Ausbiff kids or Austhump (or whatever the RL equivalent is) have to have something to aspire to. They're the future.

Dogs Swan's game does have a bit of a Retro look to it.

The first time the dogs kicked it deep I was half expecting to see Rod Carter take a mark in the goal square.

Yeah, that's right. He used to cop so much [censored] from opposition fans sitting behind the goals.

Sydney having a dip here at Marvel. Played an impressive 1st qtr and are capable of winning this.

Being at the venue, the roof should always be open on overcast mild days like today. I don’t agree with the 100% roof closed policy.

I am still dark Simmons isn’t in the olympics, Delly, Mills, Simmo etc could really give it a shake if they wanted.

Stewie Dew is too good of a coach not to have a clear bit of brand/dna/team values/mission statement/vision statement/actionable item/a ha moment/blue sky thinking/competitive advantage/core competencies/deep dive/key take aways and lazer focus for his team not to play well some of the time.

A great game of footy between Dogs and Swans, Swans looking really good.

Docklands seems far less soulless with the roof open I think. Perhaps the key is to pencil in all daytime games for the 3.20pm time slot when the sun is lower in the sky to negate the so called glare problem.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
