Whether it is the best mark ever taken is arguable. What is not in question is how incredible the photo is. Perhaps only the photo of Shai Bolton's mark earlier this year is better.

Surely the photo of the Sean Smith mark is the greatest. Heightened by the fact in the footage you see the flash go off in the crowd at the perfect moment.

Almost flattened Marty Hore, he did!

and I’m not just talking about that epic flat top

Genuine question coming up.

You’re so negative about the club in all your posts, it wasn’t a surprise that you’re also negative about the types of posts that show up in the forum.

which begs the question (s)

Why on earth do you keep logging in to Demonland?

are you a masochist?

are  you hyper vigilant about anything that upsets you AND compelled to always comment?

do you interact with the general public in the same way?

Agree with this for a couple of other posters who continuously pot the same players, coaches and the club generally. I wonder why they follow a club that they feel regularly lets them down. Surely life is too short and if people start to develop a resentment to the club the follow, find another sport?

If footy no longer gives you pleasure regularly, why continue to follow?

I hate Gary Moorcroft. So flat when he came to us. The only goal he kicked was a mung from a free kick that he played for.

Isn't that a frame taken from the TV recording? I seem to recall that there was no professional photo taken at the time and that the person with the camera that flashed was sought out for her (his?) photo. If that amateur, well-timed photo was ever published, I've never seen it.

Yes it was published, days later.
from a cheap camera. I had it on the wall for years

The girl nailed it

I know!

Surely new threads are only allowed to be about how we are pretenders, at what point we should panic, and how we can’t be trusted.

There was one bloke I would have been more cheesed off at coming to our club than Moorcroft and that was Boris Bewick. My lord those two blokes s***ted me.

Moorcroft did exactly what I thought he would when he came from Essendon: stuff all. He was a role player at Essendon, and why we got him is still mystifying to me. It's up there with getting David Rodan and Shagger Byrnes in during 2013 as far as melon scratchers go.

The bloke got the shot at the perfect moment. They had him on the footy show to talk about it back when it was watchable.

Today's photographers with their technology take pictures like machine guns, they just keep firing but that bloke just mailed it.

Incredible mark. Seriously mental when it happened. Other classic high flying marks like Shaun Smiths have been taken more out in front or on the chest. Moorcrofts mark was at full extension overhead from a great leap. It’s probably the best mark ever for that reason.

Without actually doing the research I dont reckon that Moorcrofts mark was in the best 10 I have seen.

Smith, Sampi, Bolton, both Riewlodts, Tarrants even the wizz mark was better. Its just well known because it was Essendon at their zenith and Bruce carrying on like Dennis Commetti had  just given birth unexpectedly in the commentary box.

And Moorcroft himself was an extremely overrated plodder in reality.

It was a mistake getting Moorcroft but that's ok. From memory it was totally Neale's call and he took the punt.

Good mark though.

Was an outstanding Jr Footballer.
Very limited Senior Footballer.
Role player in an excellent team.
Exposed in an average team.

Talent-wise, was probably on par either ANB.

Obviously its a good mark. No one is doubting that ?

Eddie: Talk to us about the photo you took.
Photographer: I picked up my camera, hit the button and took a photo.
Eddie: Fabulous. We’ll be back after this break.

I can’t imagine there would have been much more to it than this.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
