Ok you seriously can't make this stuff up;

Went to inflatable world for a kids birthday today and we parked and hoped out. Kids are 6 and 8 and head to toe in Dee's gear proud we are finally having a win.

Car next to us this older lady (60ish sorry to those who don't think that's old) hops out and goes "oh demons? Boo"

I couldn't believe it, no wonder they get a bad name!?!

Pretty sure Hunt was on Tippa most of the evening.  Zero goals from a bloke who usually tears us a new one most of the time.  I'll take that.  Thanks Hunty

Best we focus on his shank kick into the F50 ?

Did you tell her that Essendon haven’t won a final in 6138 days and if they take that long again to win one she’ll probably be dead before wishing her a nice day and walking off?

Did anybody read the match review from AFL.com?

Who writes this rubbish? You wouldn’t even know there were two teams playing, it’s just Essendon, Essendon, Essendon.

Way of the world these days.
They'd get more "clicks" pandering to the multitude of Essendon nuffies than writing a balanced article.

Hahah. Nah when she opens the "Melbourne Herald" she'll see "those silver tails" on top, that'll do me

Just quietly, how well is James Jordan tracking in his first year of afl? Again 20 odd touches, 5 tackles, 5 score involvements from 60 percent time on the ground. Can kick a goal too. Depth in midfield is a cornerstone of dynasties.

Jordan is doing ripper week to week, and that form is improving, week to week. Got a lively asset, there!

So still haven’t seen the replay but when I do it’ll be very interesting to watch after seeing the match rundown from the fox footy website. Seriously so ridiculously biased towards Essendon, and the commentary again reeks of bias against us.

I really hate being one of those fans that “oh everyone is against us” but really the commentary from Seven always sounds depressed when we get on top but excited when we’re losing or the other team is coming back.

I felt Viney was very ordinary at the ground and the replay is backing that up. He's still a poor decision maker and tries to do too much. His defensive positioning on multiple occasions was terrible, often trailing opponents into our D50.

I hope that's just a blowing out of the cob webs. Needs to be much better next week.

Viney had 34 pressure acts vs Essendon. Only Jordon vs Carlton (37) has had more all year.

Who does that to a 6yo and an 8yo?!?!
You didn’t mention if this rude piece of works was an Essendon supporter but the fact that she said “boo” sorta gives it away. ?

But it’s true! And yeah, we’re all gonna be told we’re biased, which I guess is accurate. But if neutrals are anything to go by then the fact remains: the media are 100% not on our side. Case in point: my son (not interested in footy by any stretch), when we were 9-0 said to me “Geez mum, by the sports part of the channel seven news, you wouldn’t know your team’s on top and killing it.”

And I am not a conspiracy theorist, an all too common label that gets bandied around in these convos.

A few weeks ago I was in JB Hi-Fi.
Saw a kid about 10-11 in full Melbourne get up, jumper, shorts, socks ... The lot.
"Go the Demons", I said to let him know that he aint alone in the world.
"Ahh ... I go for Richmond."

"RICHMOND !! .... Boo.", was my startled reply.

Dawned on me he musta been geared up for his game.
So disappointed.

Because finals usually defer to defensive contests, proving your own point about defence being primary. By saying we could have kicked 14.9 instead, like it’s a stat you can invert, ‘just like that’, is one of the most annoying, frustrating, pointless things I hear supporters say. We didn’t kick 14 goals because we weren’t able to. We kicked 9. If we had kicked 14, obviously no-one’s complaining. Isn’t that the point?

You can't on the one hand be like "the other clubs are going to up their defence in finals" and then criticise me for arguing we could have kicked 14.9.

There's no substance behind your argument that the other sides are, just cos, going to match our defence in finals.

The point I am making about the 9.14 is that we still generated 23 scoring shots. Our forward half work can improve, no question, but it's nowhere near as bad as you've been arguing, and the net result of all that is that we're not "going nowhere" in the finals, as you claimed.

Even today listening to the Bulldogs/Weagles game.
Commentators talking like they were the top 2 Premierships contenders.
Threw in us as an afterthought.

Footy world still doesn't rate us.
No doubt cause we still make hard work of the lower teams.
Yesterdays game for eg.
We didn't come out, kick 8goals in the 1st qr and blow them off the ground.
It was another slog and the essendon nuffies think the only reason they lost is for the umpiring.

Still, I never rated Richmond till their 2nd flag.
Passed the 1st one off as flukeing a purple patch at the right time of the year.
Which they pretty much did.

Folks, all that sour grapes and lack of respect will just make the end result sweeter.  Essendon flogs ‘not rating’ Melbourne after the game are just sooks.  Every week the media are going to drum up some team, the blues, the dons or whomever.  Then I stop and look at the ladder.

I get the media.
Even in games.
They don't want to call blowout games so find themselves cheerleading the losing side.
Especially the underdogs.
And like it or not there are far more supporters of the big 4 clubs so good clickbait is to print articles talking those sides up.

Interesting observation re: Oliver in The Mongrel Punt

IS CLAYTON OLIVER SLIGHTLY HURT?

It’s not like him to go two games in a row with one or less tackles, but that’s where we’re at, here.

He did cop a nice solid body hit from Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti at one stage, and Walla is solid unit. That’d slow anyone. That said, tackling is an effort stat, and it is one of the first things to fall away when someone is a bit banged up. Would be worth keeping an eye on.

Got body slammed into the turf a couple weeks ago and immediately clutched his ribs looking like he was gonna spew.
My immediate reaction was " Oh sheet, cracked ribs for sure"
Still played out the game and think yesterdays game was his 100th on the trot.
For a bloke who looks like he doesn't know where the gym is, he's one tough hombre.

Won't discuss the goal kicking we concur on that, am calm, I feel like it is coming soon..

After watching the replay again (and feeling infinitely calmer) I observed the following:

Sparrow started really strongly, he stays 2 out of 3 games he added value, gets another go. His body size is a weapon (see bomberblitz comment below).

Rivers... when was the last time a Rising Star nominee should have been in the All Australian squad? There was a transition under pressure in the 1st quarter (10m45s) where he turned around across the face of goal and nailed a flat 45m pass. This composure from a 1st year player is just unreal. J. Rivers Mk 1 was a perennial favorite, but this kid is a Rolls Royce, for his overall contribution to the team I would have him ahead of Kozzie and Dogga, (as much as I love them), truly a stella draft trifecta.

Langdon is as brave as anything, we need to get around our fleet of wingers and what Goodwin has created with them. While the media is justifiably onto our DEE fence, what has been done with the wings is brilliant and I think will be the focus of a few 'Labs' soon. We are so much better with dedicated wingers, it gives us a nice alternative to driving off half back through corridor, we can literally get out through the left, the guts or right. I had thought the wing position was dead, but the way we play it is like the way Warney brought back off spin (I might be exaggerating slightly but not to much) totally reinvigorating the position and I suspect a very clever way of taking advantage of 6/6/6 etc.

Gawn was great all game, the rest did him the world of good, biggest difference in one of our players pre bye to post bye. You could see he was on in the 1st qtr the way he was sticking his contested marks.

I also think along with Footscray and Brisbane, Essendon is going to be top 4 next year, unlike the 1st two, I hate Essendon as much as @Jaded or anyone else, but you can see they have turned a corner, they did play some really good footy. I can see our two teams, becoming the next Hawthorn/Geelong rivalry. This was a really good win over a team that was on, although we are clearly better than them currently, and as per GK comment could have been over in a canter, we gave them a sniff and they ran and it could have gone sideways if we hadn't done grind really well.

I did love on Bomberlitz, the poster Jeez who said "

-Their defenders paid our forwards zero respect. They literally led up at our midfielders and we kept kicking to them! Unbelievable.
-The dees have about 17 players I’ve never heard of who look like they played for Geelong a decade ago - they all look to be 190cm, 95kg bulls"

?

I think it's more that they don't want viewers switching channels which is why they try and make out as if the losing team is still in it/coming back
