Yes, it was an intraclub match.

Meanwhile, Casey who have played (and won) 5 games, together with Collingwood  (3/5), Sandringham (2/5), sydney (2/7) sat out byes, and Southport (⅞) sit atop the VFL ?. 
Why in any reasonable competition should 3 clubs who have played only 5 out of a possible 8 games all have byes?  Ridiculous “support” league. 

Only two, 20-minute quarters. Hardly a big workout and not a lot of goal scoring. Four in total if the scoreboard told the truth, but I was a few minutes late and missed some action.

Weed did himself no favours and barely touched it, if at all. Sad but he is going to have to be relegated to find some confidence. Brown kicked a couple of goals that I saw, missed one, and marked a few. De Class looks very likely and was noted in heavy traffic and was included in post-match boundary throw in drills. Daw rucked well against Gawn in the same boundary throw in drills. Red headed kid Bowey was busy.

In the first quarter the teams were probables (including Weideman) in blue and possibles (including B Brown) in red. Think of your first choice team and they were the blues: Jones and Jetta for example were among the reds, although so was Petty. May, Lever, Hunt, Langdon, Gawn, Gus, Clayton all blue - get it?

For the second quarter Weid and Brown exchanged places. Melksham was also a possible (red)  in the first term and a probable in the second but I did not see who he swapped with.

Annoyingly some random passer by insisted on engaging me in conversation so I found it hard to concentrate even though I tried to ignore him, so I don't have much more to offer. The most promising element was De Class who really looked at ease.

How was Viney? On the limited viewing fo you see both Viney and Brown playing?

Viney was moving really well. Looked right to go. Brown also would have to be considered given he clunked a few and kicked mostly straight.

The rucking contests I referred to came after the two quarters. Brown stayed out practicing goal kicking after the others went in. Clarry also stayed out, doing some extra running on his own. Good boy.

What position do you think he was playing ? midfield? wing?

who would you say he is most like in terms of starting 22 ?

Sorry Ben. I saw him dob two but another observer who had been there the entire time said he had three.

Given his place in the throw-in drills he looked like a mid but as for his starting position I can't say. I first noticed him in general play as a 'release' player outside the contest. Partly he stood out because he had no number but he looked agile and in Jack Dyer terms, got to where the ball was.

As against “ getting where the ball ain’t” gee I miss Jack.  
I think the one I like the most is “ stand still son the ball will eventually hit you”.

Not sure how meaningful such a small game actually was, but there are some really interesting observations provided to think about and consider. Thanks, 'Rigid.

Sounds like BB was working on a whisper in his ear for the game against Essendrug. Daw is getting interesting, matching it with Maxi and taking a few. Declase (?) could be a smokey for us with a few weeks of tougher stuff under his belt.

I think the best ever was from Tim Lane (ABC) when he was describing on air (in Tassy) a particular long torpedo bomb from one of the players: 'He launches an up country punt kick' - that he apologised for, coz he got it all wrong!

I pulled up at the lights in Swanston St / Flinders St corner one day, back in the old days when that was the way to cross from one end of the city to StKilda Rd. Blow me down, the car in the right lane parallel to mine was driven by Jack Dyer, happily munching on a meat pie and simultaneously eating a doughnut and also, combing his hair. He was obviously a man with much on his mind and perhaps, that is one of the reasons why he messed up a few lines. The funniest thing was that amid this hyperactivity, he also had time to glance left, see me watching him and then, offer a couple of waves in a friendly salutation. The lights changed, we moved forward and my last image of him was sloshing down a soft drink as he drove across Princes Bridge. Obviously on his way to Channel 7 in Dorcas St.
