I'd love to sink these spuds and wipe the grin off their faces but I honestly can't see how we're going to score.

Very disappointing effort today

Almost need our own teammates to injure him, liability.

We look pathetic. This is why nobody really believes we can win the flag.

I knew it would be a slog but I thought we’d be too classy.

Collingwood have by far and away been the classier team, and better coached?

Played SCG superbly.

How was that a free?

I think it’s when an umpire either has an irrational hatred of Melbourne or said umpire has skin in the game and is expecting a large payday

This is the Melbourne that everyone has been waiting to show.  The total lack of effort is concerning

Quanare has killed Spargo today

Not one player has won their position today. Everyone is embarrassingly bad. Jackson the best of a bad lot.

The Pies just more precise in general, more run and have worked harder to hit the contest all day

The tackle on daicos is called play on. Against Oliver tracc and other Dees is holding the ball. [censored] sick of the inconsistency

We are a laughing stock. Looking at the two teams you would think the Filth are on top of the ladder. We showed them no respect & they have made us look average. Just pathetic.

Worst performance for the season by far. Not good enough! Left to too few. Out tackled and out pressured. Very frustrating...like Melbourne of old today.

Shame on both of us.

Attitude and intent is everything in footy, other things being basically equal. We’ve been exposed today, when we knew they’d be playing with a full tank of it. Not up to it sadly….

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
