Definitely! It’s not like there’s plenty of years in the future to bestow this honour. Sadly, time isn’t on Neale’s side. ?

Absolutely and how the hell has not even been Victorian of the year?

He's earned it. Well deserved.

If Peta Credlin was Premier of Victoria,we would all be in a better place! FINE WOMAN and politically Savvyr!?

Great Accolade for ND

I like Peta Credlin but I'm not sure how she got one.

I'm more surprised how Bec Goddard got one ahead of Daisy Pearce. Daisy got the women's league going and is an icon.

Should be Australian of the Year too IMHO!

With all the controversy this year I bet they wish they had given it to him...

Incredibly happy for Neale and his family. Should have had the AO the first time in 2016 when he got an AM. Well deserved recognition!

Should be Australian of the Year too IMHO!

I'm not sure The Age understand left and rights. Unless Bec Daniher has aged 30 years since her media commitments this week.

Keep the politics off here. Dixon and Barassi were Tories, isn't that enough!

Well done Neale.

Dixons wife taught me at school.

Congrats Peta Credlin.

Not sure Barassi counts as a Tory (in the UK sense of old style Conservative).  More a Hamer Victorian Liberal - socially progressive and economically conservative.  He'd have lined up with Turnbull against Abbott.  Pro - republic, pro immigration etc Dixon was pretty progressive for his time as well.

Also, we've actually produced a Labor MP - Bob Miller MP for Prahran 1979-1985. Played 69 games between 1961-1965.  Alan Henderson, the old property steward was a dyed in the wool ALP man too.

And well done, Neale.  Absolute champion.

Absolutely.

So well deserved. Over the past 7 years it is just amazing what Neale has managed to achieve. The fact he is still here is a massive achievement as people who get mnd only get abut 27 months.

He has put this on the map and hopefully one day is goal will be achieved with a cure. Kudos to you Neale. Your positive spirit is just beautiful.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
