I think @faultydethas a photo of it coming off as his avatar.

Bizarre indeed, I am always too busy watching the game rather than typing stream of conciousness onto the game day thread.

Exactly. I hate missing a second of footbsll one is begins. And am completely focused on  it.

And given how many pages are on it in such a short space of time, I assume people can't read anyone's posts, other than the ladt two.

Each to their own

Having suffered through 57 years of agony watching the Demons and hoping for our miracle run in 87 to keep going, then in 90 hoping we might have snuck a flag because no team stood out in home & away, then 99 prelim loss to North going close, and either 2004/2005 when we were top with 4-5 games to go and came to a grinding halt, this team is different:

- we have star firepower (Max, Clarry, Trac, May, Lever, Salem, Langdon, TMac reborn) the first three are elite!

- team first football exemplified by Brayshaw, Viney, Spargo, Jordan, ANB, Hibberd, Harmes, Sparrow

- youth & excitement in Pickett, Rivers, Jackson & Petty

- class from Fritsch, Even Melksham who is doing his role

- Weideman competes just needs to believe, grab those marks and kick straight

- very solid defensive unit, protected with team defence (just need to clean up on those roving goals from forward stoppages)

- we fight back in games, think Tigers & last night, just fantastic

- we RUN and RUN and RUN and RUN and tackle, MFC have never ever done this before!

- we can improve and will as the belief in this team continues to build

- We can win FLAG, fingers crossed for just a bit of Lady Luck!

- As my kids would say, last night was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My father told me never act when you are angry. Imagine what you might have written in the first half and how that looked by the end of the game.

Last 2 weeks have been awesome, the boys have seen off both major challengers and for some inexplicable reason we have been underdogs going into both so I have plonked money on us both times for a nice return: thanks bookies!

Most complete Melbourne side I’ve seen in my 40 years of supporting easily, I can’t think of a single position on the ground we don’t have covered...funny how now we are considered the quickest side in the comp too when for years we all bemoaned the lack of pace and outside run...

Probably been mentioned already in this thread.  But, I just love to see the ball in Charlie's hands.  Just KNOW it's gonna end up in a team-mate's hands!  He is just SO reliable!  Great footy smarts!  (And in spite of being a midget, he's as tough as nails!)

I noticed on the replay Trac pointing Spargo out and acknowledging he was responsible for  two goals in the 3rd. The one Trac kicked himself and the T Mac roving and running one from about 40 out. Both times Spargo competed in the air and brought it to ground. Charles is having a ripper season.

Watched the replay, absolutely putrid umpiring.

At least 7 obvious push in the backs in the first half

Bs free to Charlie Cameron in the last 4m to go

8m to go a lions kick in and they had a runner in the 50m arc

Daniher spun 360 and the ball his the ground,  then he kicks,  play on.

And we hit the post 4 times.

Weid is a bust. Bring in sideshow bob

Great win! I’ll really enjoy the office banter on Monday!

my best mate (kiwi - rugby mad) has been watching games with me of late, at half time he asked if we were a decent chance, I said yes we finish games strong and we cannot play any worse.  He loaded up on the Dee’s under 2 conditions from me 1) he buys 1 x memberships 2) buys a jersey (would be 4xl) if we win.  We shook on it, ladies and gentlemen we have our newest member haha!

Welcome aboard, BrisbaneDemon’s 4XL kiwi buddy! You couldn’t have picked a better team to follow. Not gonna lie, you’re in for a bumpy ride. But I can assure you, it’s a life-long love affair! ❤️?

Absolutely agree with everything here. Would love to see BB get the FF spot. Weid has had his chances for now.

Gibbo and co in media mustn’t have been able to sleep either, “All the Goals” is already up on the MFC website.

Agree with others about the TMac snap goal being incredible, but the one in second quarter where Harmes kicked it down the throat of Fritsch basically in the square was as good corridor footy as you’ll see. Was crucial in the timing of the game too.

I counted 11 handpasses in the chain that created that goal Nash.  Back in the day the MCC Members would have been shouting "Just Kick the THING!" We are scarey good at the moment.

Indeed. It’s a fine art - we’ve seen plenty of MFC teams try those handball chains and do one too many. Can understand why the gentlemen in the MCC who had lost track of how the game works were confused and frustrated.

This MFC team kicks when the time is right. It is a thing of beauty.

Interestingly Sparrow had 19 disposals from 58% game time and without doing the maths I’d imagine that was the greatest disposals per game time of anyone.

Great effort and needs to be recognised.

Yep, he was good. Makes next week a very tricky call. Surely Langdon returns. So who misses out?

How good is this feeling!!!
Go you demons!!

I’ll be devastated if Melbourne win the grand final and us vics can’t be there

Its making me nervous as although it’s still ages away and we need to make it first but just the thought of not going to finals makes sad ?

No player on the ground got 30 touches or more.  Is that a first for any game this season?  Shows the bipolar nature of the game- each side dominated for a half.  We stuck to them better when we were down, and cut through them better when we were on.

their talls looked so dangerous early, and went completely AWOL later.  In the pregame thread my barometer for this match was contested marks.  It held true- smashed in this in the first half (and all other stats), much improved in the second.  Brisvegas, more than most teams, have to be stopped getting contested marks.

thought they came out to play dirty, too. Hits on Max , holding Trac in each contest, Zorko hit on MacDonald, etc.  we don’t get sucked in,which is great.

Same when they surge forward.
Irrepressible.
Were even doing those brilliant little tap ons.
A sign of growing confidence.

It was reminiscent of the play against the Bombers a few years back when Salem kicked the winner.

Just reading the game day thread. Wow some posters should have a read of the pre half time posts. Anyone would have thought we were losing by 10 goals. I understand different views but some of the bile towards Melksham; Hunt, Bullen, Spargo etc is gutter sniping. I can only conclude these posters are fickle or infiltrated Pies supporters taking the [censored]. To play so poorly and only be 20 points down was a positive. This team has gears and is never out of it. Glad I invested in guaranteed granny tickets.

This is why I take those posts with a grain of salt. Those negative (putting it mildly) comments are knee-jerks, and while they’re horrible to read, they’re largely said in the heat of the moment. And that’s just one of myriad reasons DL is so awesome: it facilitates venting.

He spent the second half pressuring Mcluggage and was within striking distance of him every time he was near, in possession of or providing options for the pill. Absolutely shut down their ability to transition through him

Whereas, Harmes seemed to rotate to both Neale and McLuggage at stoppages in the first half.

So I thought the way we used our mids to shut down their dangerous players was superb. Yze must deserve a lot of credit for this and the improvement of all these guys has to be at the feet of Williams, whilst taking nothing away from Goodwin and the trust he has in the players to play to his blueprint.

The real strength that we're beginning to build in our midfield though (and I'd argue it's similar for our back 6) is having the ability to lockdown on a player and then join in on offence.

Viney is good at it, but I'd argue Harmes is more dangerous because his kicking is more penetrative than Viney and he kicks goals.

But Melksham, IMO, took a step towards being able to play a similar role last night. Shut down opponents, but then join in on offence when he could. It's the perfect example of offence coming from your strong defence.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
