25 km travel limit

Won’t stop you going up. Theoretically, as long as you’re not travelling more than 25km to get to Melbourne airport. Once you arrive in Sydney, NSW law obviously applies. They have a notice up on their government website as posted, which says you have to stay at a place of residence apart from a reasonable excuse, so mirroring the five reasons for leaving home that Victoria has at the moment. Come Friday, you can leave home for any reason, you just theoretically can’t travel more than 25km in Victoria! So on that basis there should be no issue with going, and they will probably withdraw their notice (which they currently update daily). If they really didn’t want Victorians going up at all they’d close the borders. Gladys is the only premier that’s taken a bit of common sense with this all.

How is travelling more than 25km in a plane any different to travelling more than 25km in a car ?

Love your creative thinking but I think you'd better get back to the drawing board

While I get back to the ‘drawing board’ you might want to read the constitution champ!

Why are all the airlines still allowed to fly? Are they flying with empty planes for the sake of it?

From the NSW Health Website FYI

Stay at home rules

If you are in NSW and you have been in Victoria on or after 4pm Thursday 27 May 2021 you will need to follow stay-at-home rules. This includes travellers from anywhere in Victoria (both Greater Melbourne and regional Victoria).

If you have arrived after 4pm on Thursday 27 May 2021, you must stay at your residence until 14 days have passed since you were last in Victoria, or until advised otherwise by NSW Health, unless you have a reasonable excuse to leave, such as

  • obtaining food and services
  • travelling for the purposes of work or education if you cannot work or study at home
  • medical care or
  • exercising outdoors.

The footy one.

The one that says players have tbe right to bare arms.

Hence, the unique sleeveless footy jumpers Australian rules footballers can wear

That's a big development.

But how can someone from an outer Melbourne suburb justify breaching the 25 k limit by (driving to Tullamarine) to fly up to Sydney for a football game.

Unless there are special loopholes and exemptions that Melbournians can apply for to travel to the game, I wouldn't risk it.

Sounds like a 50% crowd may be allowed for the Dons V Dees games in round 15 so it might be best to wait for that.

On a technicality basis I guess you are right if you live more than 25km from the airport. I’m not sure that’s the intention of the rule which is to prevent people going to country Victoria, so the odds of having issues would be remote, but I see your point. The government is getting enough negative press from these OTT rules that I can’t see them wanting to be knit picking with things like this. If the airport is within 25km there are no issues whatsoever.

Fair call. And if you're a Melbournian that travels up and back for the game without incident, then best of luck to you.

But I'll go with the "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" theory. Feel like we're on a very tight leash until Thursday.

Me too seat 5

Were you involved with the Sydney supporter group? I'm sure we met on that great day when Brad Miller played the game of his life against BBB Hall and Cameron the Bruce snapped the winning goal!

defuture15… did you get allocated new seats? I got a seat relocation email from Ticketek saying the seats I was originally given are no longer available; we’re now in Bay 15 in the Victor Trumper Concourse in row CC.

Just checked Jetstar and you'd be looking at around $230 for a same day return, coming back on their latest flight at 7.20pm.

Listening to people on this thread working out how to play the rules on movement restrictions makes me glad that myself, my wife and in particular the aged care home she works at are all fully vaccinated. Presumably the seating at the SCG is going to be in the same blocks method as they used at Giants Stadium so it'll be shoulder-to-shoulder.

On a brighter note, I've been thrilled to see the Freeze MND beanies around Sydney this week. I wasn't even sure they'd were actually selling them at Coles/Bunnings and so forth but I got mine the other day and quickly had a few people ask if I could pick up some more for them. By the time I got back to the local shops this morning I was buying all but the last one in the display.

I'm sharing the news because I'm sure a few people will be relieved to know that this event is getting some traction up here and the MND effort isn't facing as much of a failed event as we might have feared.

Plus, the #positivelingers t-shirt sales have gone through the roof, which helps.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
