The political machinations at Collingwood

Pies get legal advice on new board member O’Donnell

It has begun.

The culmination of 12 years of machinations, relationship breakdowns, and a fiefdom run by 2 blokes in two blokes in particular (Eddie and FIGJAM) is about to explode spectacularly.

I've said elsewhere that I always thought that Eddie would bide his time and then make another sortie for a board position. With Browne the candidate making moves at the top job, I have changed my position. Eddie's ego will heartily agree with getting rid of the board who gave him his marching orders for one led by one of his cronies while he spends his time using his not insignificant media platform rehabilitating his reputation. Either way, the upcoming s***fight will be fascinating.?

Don't sack Bucks yet wait till after the Queens Birthday game. Cannot remember a coach being sacked after playing Melbourne. Have we ever been a coach killer besides our own coach, been plenty of those.

With zero research I am confident the answer is no.

I think they sacked Tommy Hafey after the Dees beat them in 1982 but not 100% sure

I'd say Eddie is on track to become Graeme Richmond for the digital age: a bloke tight with the media who is pulling all the strings on the marionette, but the strings will ultimately be too long.

One thing I’ve take out of both Bartlett and Roffey’s Deeluded podcast is the statements about presidents and boards needed to be refreshed. A president should only be around for approx 5 years and then refresh….

PS Korda and the gentleman who just resigned have both been on the board since the noughts for goodness sake.

Every time he speaks about Collingwood I just think… shut up, just let it go, move on, be a fan not a mouthpiece, they got rid of you, you made a mess of it..

It'd be nice for someone to tell him that to his face. Part of the reason he carries on like he is boss cocky 24/7 is that he seems to exclusively associate with blokes who are 1) in awe of him or 2) blokes like S. Newman who are cut from the same ocker cloth.

I'm not as negative about the Pert appointment as I was when it first happened, but I wonder if Eddie deciding to unilaterally take the Queens Birthday fixture off us in 2019 coincided with the appointment of a bloke who was in his clique at Collingwood? If he tried to pull that on PJ, I could imagine the reaction; he would have gotten told calmly but sternly where to get off.

Added one more caveat to who Eddie associates with.

Never cost me a penny. My company used to make them. Freezer was always full at home.

He can't. It seems it's a big part of his identity. It's for sure he will try to keep pulling strings, but even his mate Browne won't be quite the marionette Eddie might think. As said above, the strings will only get longer and slacker.

Coincidentally, I recently finished a full read of The Pentagon Papers and 'A coup would not be good for the club' was one of the more frequent quotes.

Basically the story goes, 'Don't plot a coup, we need stability and have to hope this current lot get their act together,' to 'Don't plot a coup, we've been backing this lot through all kinds of corruption and atrocity so it would make us look idiotic to flip now'.

Until, finally, 'Okay, there's been a coup and this new lot are just as bad, but don't plot a coup, we need stability so we have to hope this current lot get their act together.'

Continue the melody with minor variations until fall of Saigon.

Grant Thomas?  your card is marked at St Kilda if you lose to the Dees

Adding a separate thought about Korda's confidence level;

"I can tell you behind the scenes membership is over 80,000,"  and 24,000 of them turned up for the game against the Suns.

In fact, Collingwood haven't cracked 30,000 for a home game against an interstate team this season.

Unlike, say, minnow club Melbourne.

Yeah, can't remember who 'cause I don't really give a fork but I'm sure we have a bunch of scalps.
There was often opposition upheaval after loses to us.

I’m a little worried about QB this year, after all it’s going to be their Grand Final. ?

Christ, this guy gets around. Holding down our defence AND undermining the CFC board. Go big Steve.

In a bad year, sometimes the only thing to look forward to is on or off field drama at Collingwood. This year we have it all!

AHHHHHHHHHH (sips cognac)

GO DEMONS!!!

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
