I've been eating up every piece of media I can find on the demons this year and really digging the demonland podcast, especially the binman insights. Always dug his approach in text form, so I'm glad it translates it in a podcast. In general though, well structured and professional. Well done, lads.

Question I have though is, where are these people chatting during the podcast and how do you even find out a podcast is live?

Great ep guys. Loved it.

I’ve been remiss in posting a podcast thread when the show is live.

i haven’t done that because at the top of each page when the show is live has the live feed, chat link and phone number.

The show is live every Tuesday @ 8:30pm and anyone can join the chat or call in (link & number provided at the time of the show).

I really enjoyed the podcast (thanks gentlemen). It’s great to hear from guys with passion and knowledge, especially for me, living so far from Melbourne and having absolutely no one here who even follows the game, let alone the Demons.  So again... a big THANK YOU.

Interesting discussion about tactical analysis. Yes, the media has a long way to go, although we’re now hearing more than in the past. We don’t have the population or budgets to support multiple stat companies so we’re stuck with Champion Data. The post clearance possession and contest differential was discussed regularly On the Couch the last couple of years. (And in those years, Melbourne was criticised for getting the clearance then giving the ball up.) Thankfully we’ve fixed that this year.

As for making sense of the stats, I am sure every club has a full subscription to all the Champion Data statistics and enough expertise to interpret what they see. We’re just not seeing it ourselves and Birman is right... we fans would really benefit from the education. Daniel Horne is on the right track. It’s just too bad that the show is hosted by David King.

Keep up the great podcasts. Love them!

Yep, cracking episode and fully support the push for better access to stats and more deep-level tactical anlysis.

@Fanatique Demon, between you, the bloke who called up from Brussels (happy up coming birthday chap) and a few of us here in Amsterdam, we have the old Frankish realm MFC supporter base covered ?

Would love to listen to Mark "Choco" Williams on the Demonland Podcast in the future.

That's only a suggestion though.

I'd like to hear from Yze one-on-one, as well.

Would be great to know who you are, monsieur Brussels. I just had the birthday milestone you mentioned. Maybe we know each other from another place and time.

When I first heard the podcast when it began I thought it was pretty low quality (production wise) and too dry for my liking. It is now my favourite Melbourne Demons podcast (and there are a few out there!) Well done guys, the discussion is always intelligent and engaging, I love listening to it while I'm working or driving somewhere.

@Binman, the lack of stats and analysis in the mainstream media has been a huge bugbear of mine for a long time as well. Champion Data don't even release the "Prospectus" anymore which I used to buy each year for an overview. Sure not everyone is going to enjoy it but with the amount of media coverage you'd think there would be some market for that type of coverage. What there is is extremely limited and those that do do some more in depth coverage like Mark McGowan on the AFL website get the flick!

There has been a huge learning curve and now that we have ditched Skype to communicate remotely between the hosts the audio quality is much better lending to an overall better product.

Without boring people with specifics the individual hosts audio is now recorded locally on their own computers and then mixed together in post so that it sounds a lot cleaner rather than the distortion you get from Skype.

Using Skype also presented issues where cohosts couldn’t hear each other if they began talking over each other. Because we are not physically in the same room there are no visual cues when one person wants to interject. I’ve contemplated adding a video component so that hosts can see each other but then you can get into bandwidth issues if someone’s internet is flaky.

I got the impression that he wasn’t a user of Demonland the website. I plug the show on our various social media channels plus I’m sure there are people that have found the podcast just by searching the various podcast apps for Demons content.

Would love to have Supermicardo back as a guest commentator , and see how he is feeling now??

I'll bring the Middle East in and together we'll create the Dee-aspora.

I think this is how the crusades might have started...

Onwards, Dees, to the Holy grail!

Listened to the podcast in the gym this morning. To clarify, it was I who was the first international guest on the show.
I only served 6 months of my 14 year sentence in Rowville, and came back to Japan to live in 2015.

I called in to console a crushed @Demonland when the Tiges rolled us in the game you mentioned this episode. I was gobsmacked myself and needed someone to talk to myself I reckon.

The second time was after the Allen Jakovich interview as it was that bloody good and engaging an interview, I had to relay my commendations.:jakovich:

To quote the name of a great Demonland poster, I'm @Bitter but optimistic

@Supermercado is always welcome back on. I believe work commitments have kept him away.

Was worried you had had a falling out or something. I'm glad nothing more sinister than gainful employment is the culprit.

I know @binman has a keen eye for it but would be great to see if you can add an @Axis of Bob or @titan_uranus into the show as they have some great focus on underlying stats/numbers that could add a new element.

I know I bang on about it but the fans that cover NHL have an outstanding number of podcasts and some incredible fan based stats internet pages. Quiet of few of those people have gone on to be employed by NHL teams or large media corporations.

Happy to have anyone on the podcast. If anyone wants to dip their feet in the water but is nervous or unsure perhaps call in one week and see how you go.

@binman
is still just a weekly regular caller isn't he?

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
