This week the Casey Demons take on Richmond on Saturday afternoon at the Swinburne Centre (Punt Road Oval) so it’s a nice stroll from one venue to the next for anyone wanting to make a day of it.

Any telecast?

No, don't know if it's an AFL mandate for FOX to televise different teams each week but the Saturday arvo game is Port Melb vs Zebras. I would think from a commercial point of view the Tiges vs  Casey game would have many, many, more viewers,

For me, there was nothing better than being able to watch the ressies at Punt Road (or the G) and then the seniors.  Used to love going to the huddle at the breaks and vividly remember a reserves game end of one season when they were behid at 3/4 time and Chris Fagan singled out two players that needed to lift in the last quarter (Craig Nettelbeck and Mark Winterton).   They combined to kick five goals betwen them to win the game.  Winterton in my opinion was one of the better listed players to never get a game for the club.  Incidentally that day was the day the Dees tried out two champion country midfielders Guy Rigoni and Fraser Stevenson, who both dominated.  The club was keeping Rigoni's identity as quiet as possible.  I asked who he was and the club said he was the fictitious Rodney Saddington - Jason Saddington, Mark Bolton, Paul Chapman and Jess Sinclair among others were top up players that year.

What time is it on? I'm planning on going there.

2:00pm, as per the fixture, which is annoying and nonsensical and I would imagine inconvenient for most wanting to double up.

Have been to Punt Road in 2018 for a VFL game. We lost but it was a very nice winters day.

Other than the stand which seats maybe 1000 there's not much room and certainly very little additional seatng. They have also made it difficult to get to the Punt road side of the ground where there is maybe 15 feet between the ground and the wire fence. The admin/ gymn centre almost touches the ground.

5000 would pack it out.

Overall not one of my favourite VFL grounds.

To get in you buy a ticket at the gate for $10 or $5 for away club members.  Usual scan in required. Have not seen any mechanism for pre-purchase.

The food was a take away truck with nothing spectacular as I recall it. Hangin out for my next Burra burger !!

Hope this helps.

PS at the Box Hill game last weekend you were allowed onto the oval at the quarter breaks which was a pleasnt surprise.

I had written the time in my original post, but along with re-wording most of what I said, and adding a picture, the time was removed. Not sure why.

No way would 5000 be able to attend this venue.

The AFLW was allowed 1,200 approx and I would say 2,000 would be maximum.

A one off Game and lucky if you get in I would say.

No problems viewing next week’s Casey Demons game if you have Foxtel - it’s on live Thursday night.

Anyone know where to find this week’s selected side?

I don’t think it’s announced until 6:30pm... check on the AFL website is probably more reliable than MFC website.

Will probably be on kayo freebies too in R3.  Kayo is only doing 3 VFL matches each round  (which may explain the sudden disappearance of the Casey-Box hill match from their listings last week).

Goonan a bit stiff to be dropped... thought he did well last week.

One of Petty, Weid, Chandler and Sparrow won't play for Casey.

Pretty sure it won't be Sparrow, who was sub last week and Petty seems unlikely with May back, so its Weid or Chandler.

More likely to be Chandler as sub than Weid.

I thought Weid would be playing, but maybe the weather played a part.

Tigers happy to play two tall specialist key forwards, while we have gone for a young forward ruck and a mid sized forward in Fritta, while Tom Mac seems to play more up the ground than key forward.

No Vanders either hope he's not injured.

Just ordered my ticket but I can't print it out. Do I just arrive with my order number?

There's a QR code in the ticket. I'd just assumed that could be scanned on entry like we do at the G?

Might go to library on way and print it out just in case. Who owns a printer these days!

was thinking of going but the stand being closed and no other seats plus the credit card booking makes it unattractive.

Will dip in and out of the TV on the Geelong game instead.

Looking forward to getting back to Coburg or even Windy Hill

Richmond will live stream the game through their official site.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
