CHANGES: Rd 05 vs Hawthorn

Featured Replies

I’m thinking Petty and Hibberd in for Frittata and May as Hibberd can play defense and wing which means TMac can play closer to goal and petty can play back or forward. Gives us more options.

Unless they roll the dice on Ben Brown

2 quality outs this week.

Hoping we can cover for him or Melk steps up.

Fritta has great hands so I wouldn't mind see Brown in for a week.

Mitch Brown isn’t the worst option to replace Fritta and he kicked 3 in the VFL last week

Any idea who was injured?

Yep. Demongirl35 was right on the money

If Mitch Brown kicked 3, get him in. However, he seems to do his best work up the field. McDonald may have to play closer to goal. IMV this is a bigger out than May

hopefully he's back for the Tigers game

I think we can cover this week

vs the Tigers...I'm not sure

Unless BBB comes in

Fritter out for 2

Oh no.

Things were going too well for us.

I’d plunk Melksham in the forward line and back him in to play the role.

I agree and then they can bring in another small forward to play a high half forward role.

The bloke was our worst player last week and his attempted banana from 15 metres out was indicative of where he is at.

Wonder if Chandler, Bedford or VandenBerg will come into calculations for the forward half.

TWO OPTIONS

T Mac and LJ/Gawn as the key forwards.   This robs us of using Gawn across half back in Mays absence.

or

Bring in Mitch Brown or Majak Daw to play forward.

I want to take credit and pretend I know inside info but I read it on the clubs Facebook :(

Option C (which I cant take credit for)

Bring in Hibberd for May as the Hawks will likely have a small forward line,   play Petty forward

Definitely agree with those calling for Mitch Brown to replace Bailey.

He plays similarly (obviously not as well) to Bailey as second/third marking option who does his best work on the lead and finding space like Bailey does. Stick with the current structure/formula I say and not muck things up bringing in another bigger tall.

We won't be rushing either BBB or Weid back. The only spot in the side I can see Majak playing is if one of Jackson or Gawn are injured. He is a player who has to be more involved in games switching between ruck and forward to get the most out of him. I've watched him just get lost/wasted as a key position forward deep.

Also this puts more pressure of Tmac. I think he's been playing a decent enough role for us but if he doesn't hit the score board this week as the no.1 option now that Bailey is out I think he'll be under pressure to keep his spot with the other two bigs on the way. I don't like the wing idea for him. I get that he can run all day and get to marking contests but he's just so stiff and immobile when the ball hits the deck I think we lose the flexibility at that we need at that position.

Watching the start of the Richmond/Saints game makes me think we need to have the height of Petty in the game this week to settle him into the structure for next week.

I guess miracles can happen.

Fritta out might see Petracca play more time in the forward half, I also agree with those that this presents Melksham with a big opportunity to step up. 2020 was awful and he was quite comfortably one of our worst last week but this is a chance for him to show his worth to the team.

I think TMac needs to stick to his CHF connector role, perhaps a little deeper depending on how the game is running.

But this is our first major injury hurdle since Weid and Brown went down, a test for our depth.

Changes should be kept simple IMO:

Out Fritta, May

In Brown, Petty

Like for like, obviously big quality drop but a chance for two players to stake their claim and be a part of the ride.

Similarly I think Hibberd needs to come in as he may be the Dusty match-up

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
