When people say 'low' and 'high' when referring to this list, I have no idea what they mean.
Is it better to be low or high..?

Guys. The list isn't based off previous seasons. It is who Robbo thinks is going to have a big year this year.

Hence Daniher and Rowell are on the list. He thinks they will be great this year.

Like daisycutter said, I'm not sure these two words go together.

If he can hold onto his 'better habits' version and use space from stoppages a bit smarter to get more effective clearances, that puts him in the absolute top bracket of midfielders.  Just need a bit more of what was in the 'video of the week' from the practice match!

Either way, Oliver easily led the competition for clearances last year. He is surely in the same mix as Cripps, Macrae, Steele, Wines and Boak.

Robbo has given Cripps a huge benefit of the doubt after a down season and I get why. The other 4 all had fantastic seasons, although I’d only have Steele with a big gap to Clarry on last year.

Burst from stoppages gets him in the top bracket. Balancing up and hitting the short lead rather than blazing away from 60 gets him to the pointy end.

This was the lead footy story in Robbo’s paper today. Footy journalism is flying.

Joe Daniher at 26 - wow Slobbo really has jumped the tracks.

Daniher - 4 games for 9.5 disposals a game and 3/4 of a goal per game.

Robinson is a disgrace to journalism and football in general. I'm embarrassed just commenting on his work.

And if there's 44 players better than Steven May , well.......... words fail me.

Rowell at 22 after he’s played 3 games.

Daniher at 26 when he doesn’t get on the park and hasn’t impacted a game for 3-4 years.

Clarry at 33 after he’s played 100 games at possibly the highest quality first 100 games ever.

Slobbo needs to lay off the [censored]!

He is an absolute joke. I mean really.
i haven’t read a Hun for over a year, i am missing nothing.

this is prospective list as mentioned.

but still having Danger at the top.  Danger's best is definately past him.  any team would take Trac over him for 2021,  he is carrying injuries.  Dusty can get up for big games but he can't play 20+ elite games anymore either

D Martin is number 1. You cannot dispute that

No doubt he won them the flag last year and was amazing in finals. He didn’t win their BnF and was very lucky to make AA imo so number 1 for the upcoming season is questionable imo

True top 6 players in the game at present no doubt in my mind!

He’s better than Cripps, Steele, Mitchell, Wines, De Goey, Rowell & Shuey & that’s just the midfielders above him.

I know it’s just an opinion piece from a very average AFL reporter, but it makes my blood boil how overlooked Clarry always is

it is not a list of who has been the better player. He didnt make the midfield in the AA team, arguably lucky to be in it.

no comment on the drugs

How overrated if Steele?  one good year. just coz the saints have no other inside mids he gets it a lot.  good player but Clarry eats him for breakfast. Steele being the Saints only player in the top 50 shows their lack of class/elite players.  lots of average/good players, no great players

And Simpkin in the top 50?

To have joe Daniher in a list when he has hardly played a game in 3 years is farcical

The list is based on where he see them at years end.  If Daniher stays on the park I’d say he would comfortably sit in the top 30. In saying it’s a big if.

Agreed.

In a list of performing in finals or most likely to win the norm smith - Martin would be number 1 for sure

Remember when certain people would foam at the mouth every year when Mike Sheahan named his Top 50?

The only thing that's changed here is the author.

None of it matters.

By the sounds of the comments in this thread, Robinson is having the desired effect. Throw in a few controversial selections to rile people up. It doesn't matter. It's just an opinion.

He doesn’t have to make to make the Midfield of the AA Side. He just has to be on the ground

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
