I’m not sure anyone is taking this casually. But in the grand scheme of things Jackson getting a week or two off with a minor injury is hardly a disaster. Losing Tomlinson for a year is a disaster. Jackson getting a rest and recovering from a minor injury is a hiccup. 
Carlton don’t have a great ruck division. Gawn has gone it mostly alone in the past. It’ll be ok. 
We need to get our Centre clearances working again. If we can’t do that with Gawn we are stuffed regardless. 

it's a significant 'out', of that there is no doubt

it clearly will effect our structures as he's a key player for us despite only being 19 and with less than 20 games to his name

Injuries happen, thankfully in this case he will recovery relatively quickly and easily. We are also well served in the talls department. We will miss him, zero doubt on that, but I’d rather it happen now than in a month or two’s time.

Tommy and Fritsch, and last week Tommy and BBB have worked remarkably well in keeping out of each others’ way (Tom’s “sealer” mark was the only time I noticed them flying together) unlike some of our forward structures in recent years.  
Full credit to them, and whomever drills them in this.  Presumably Weed has been part of the same drills, and can hopefully fit in with and around them too. 

I hope so as i seem to recall in past games (when Tmac & Weid have played together) they often tended to get in each other's way and spoil each other in the air.

Their goal scoring averages were also very low from memory.  Much has changed since then though so fingers crossed.

I'm inclined to go for the extra small - Sparrow or Chandler for me.

I know it's been argued that Jackson is a ruckman and midfielder and therefore two players in one. But I don't think the AFL will allow us to replace him with two other players. 

This move has been long anticipated. Despite all the logic, and being howled down on here before, I think it is very unlikely that Jackson will be in red and Blue next year. Weid has to come in or there is a danger of losing him too. Even Max has said that it is a luxury having Luke. A luxury is not a necessity. Jackson has been good but is superfluous to need.

I have mentioned a few.  I suspect that the FD have been wanting to get Weid in for a while. This injury allows that to happen. The reality is Jackson will be getting offers, that is the main one. We could not move a couple of players last year. You can only trade something that someone is willing to pay for. There are not many on our list that fall into that category.

I take your point about the need to move someone on. I disagree that it will be Jackson. 

Whilst TMAC is playing fantastic - those 'mutual' conversations last year between the club and him, would still have him 'flicking v's at the FD (if I was him) and I would happily walk irrespective what occurs for the team by the end of this season.

I would imagine TMAC will be gone - and he is doing himself (and as a by product the team) the world of good for an extra opportunity at another club. It's a unique circumstance (still having a contract, no suitors, retained at club), he is performing well, and adhering to structure (so, also extremely coachable considering context ) even though he wasn't wanted. 

His is a truly courageous story. 

I'll slot him in for greener pastures on the Gold Coast in 2022.

Jackson will remain.

Given our performance this year and our promise to be top 4 this year and beyond I don't think players like TMac / LJ are likely to want to move anywhere.

We aren't the only team with Premiership potential but we seem to be in the window right now and that will a powerful motivator for players to stay. The signing of Trac and other core elite players makes it a hard team to leave. Going to Gold Coast at least might not be so attractive in the context.

He's contracted and going nowhere.

If the Weid can't nail down a spot and wants to leave then so be it. I'm a fan of the Weid and want him to stay but the reality is Dogga has shown more in 15 odd games than the Weid has in 5 seasons. 

I blame all this on that swans supporter with the swollen finger disease.

Lj was quiet against swannies but he has some great skills. Gathers the ball like a small rover. Big out. But Sw is a big inclusion.

We have lost a quality defender, mid and now fwd. We have covered them in Harmes who was good and Petty who despite the naysayers was very good. Stocks are getting low. 

Get better Luke J. But what if Sw kicks a bag? And its more than possible.

While I agree That T Mac will be a FA next year and will probably go somewhere else. There is no cap saving in this but we might be able to get some pick compensation of some sort if we can trade him. I suspect that is is unlikely that we will be able to pay Jackson what he will be offered elsewhere. Have a read of the article that I posted and put yourself in the position of list management.
