has anyone had any further news re Hore, Declase or even Hibbo confirmation?  I havent seen anything.

I doubt we make a decision on Hore or Declase until close to or even after the draft.

I doubt we make a call on Hibbo until he finishes his partying! Or more accurately, until he’s had time to reflect on the season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to go out on a high.

Don’t get too worried about who’s on the rookie or main list. We can shuffle them after the drafts. Leaving cat B aside for now we can have 42 total players. 36 on the main list and 6 rookies is the way to go to save salary cap space.

We have 37 signed up. 5 spots.

3 in limbo. 3 worthwhile draft picks. And if history is a guide we like to keep 1 likely train on spot, but that’s never a guarantee.

ok you definitely can't leave the decision until after the draft, unless you delist them and then invite them to train on over preseason to win back their spot which seems like a strange thing to do

I'm pretty sure the Giants rookie drafted Sam Reid about 4 times in his career. We could see who is out there before redrafting Marty Hore as a rookie or having him train over summer to rest his recovery from injury. That doesn't seem all that strange at all.

But at a minimum I think we'll explore all of the delisted free agents and get a better idea of how deep the draft is before making a final call on the rest of the list. Apart from Hibbo, if he's keen to go on then we should sign him up!

My understanding is that clubs have to sign up their wanted players by the end of October when they lodge their lists. Unless this has changed, the club would have to enter into new contracts with the 3 unsigned players or they become delisted free agents. Clubs would then have to decide whether to tell the players that they will redraft them at the National or Rookie Draft as the case may be depending on what happens on the day.

We’ve already flagged that we’re offering a contract to Michael Hibberd but there’s be no word on the others. My guess is that there’s a balancing act going on and we’ll find out soon enough.

i can see, and for some reason this thought didn't come to me until yesterday when i sort port and the tiges do it, we might delist hore and declase and then re-rookie hore, committing to him immediately he's had a rough two years but played consistent afl football in his first season so they must like what he can do, granted that was three years ago and we've definitely improved since then but there's worse depth going around than marty

I'm a Hibberd fan, but tell him he's dreamin'.

I doubt it. My hunch is hibberd is considering going out on top or doing another year and the club is giving him time to consider it.

I would think the flow on effect of his decision is if declasse stays on rookie list or if hibberd decides he wants another year they move hore to rookie list and declasse is delisted.

I have no info though.

Hibbo resigned for 2022

Hore and Declase delisted.

33 senior list.  5 Rookie A list.

Space for 3 further additions in the Draft and 1 further addition in the rookie draft.  (Total 36 + 6 = 42).

I don't quite understand this.

We've now lost 8 players from our overall list and gained 1.

How does that equal 4 extra spots?

Bradtke was Cat B, so never really counted to the 42 main and rookie A list.

The mid season draft players were added to the 42 to replace inactive injured players. So we ended up with 44. 7 of those (5 delistings, 2 retirements) have now gone, with 1 addition. Gets us to the current 38 players with 4 spots.

We lose extra spots from

1. Austin Bradtke. He was a category B rookie and was allowed as an addition to the total of 42.

2. Recruitment and now retention of Turner midseason due to a players on our long term injury list. He essentially was an extra player for us during the year. Declase was as well but has since been delisted.

Essentially we had 42 + a cat B rookie and 2 x midseason draftees making a total of 45 for the year.

We have to shed 3 players to get back to 42, although we can add a cat B rookie again if we like (think we can have two even)

List 42. Plus Bradtke as Cat B rookie.  Two injury listed replacements gained in 2021 (to cover Nietschke and Hore) Turner and Declase.  = 45.

But 42 is the number (excl any cat B rookies)

End of year - delisted 8.  Dunstan added.

gets us to 38.  33 main list. 5 rookie A list.

So is the idea that Hore will get redrafted as a rookie?

very handy player across half-back, adds a lot imo.

Hope so. But maybe his knee is stuffed

We have it slightly differently on our lists as we have James Jordon back as a rookie which is where he started at the end of last year's draft period. This gets us to:-

Primary List: 32

Rookie List: Category A 6

At the National Draft we would uplift JJ to the Primary List and presumable draft 3 players and still have room for an A rookie.

What DeeSpencer said

if Andy Moniz-Wakefield gets through the national draft we can add him immediately as a cat b rookie assuming we nominated him which would be handy

I have it a little differently again as I think Chandler with his 2 year contract and money slightly above the top rookie contract will also come onto the main list so after Chandler and Jordan elevated:

Primary: 34

Rookie A: 4

Rookie B: 0

So 4 new players to come onto either only the main list or a combo of main and Rookie A and potentially 2 additional category B rookies. Maximum 6 new ‘welcome to demonlands’  to come. Fun times.

Hore is unlucky.  Very good mark and kick and good insurance for Lever.  Injuries killed his chances

would be a worthy rookie pick up

Turner vs Hore  more upside in Turner as he may be a KPP in defence down the track.

Hore a little unlucky due to injury but 3 years and not a regular spot can't keep with younger prospects for AFL appear classier and more suited to our defence. Turner may well be Petty's replacement when he replaces May after his retirement.

With the name Turner Daniel should be receiving your name support for his career Turner. Close call but Hore still not a regular so has no place to defend. Younger player has more upside I believe.

woulda kept them both if up to me, Joel smith has had more chances impressed less and been more injury prone than hore, he would've been out the door for mine

So we can take 4 at the draft then?

They should just abolish the rookie list. Ridiculous and thoroughly useless demarcation of players.

My only question is 17, 37 and 49 with a spot left for an addition later in pre-season?

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
