WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAKE BOWEY

I'm not sure this is going to such an issue with him - the reason being he has a good vertical leap. Unless he is caught out of position I think he has the ability to spoil most opponents and we have already seen he isn't shy to take or attempt a hanger

Arguably the best disposal skills on the list - I'd rate him ahead of even Salem because he has the ability to hit targets over greater distance

He will still be able to play at AFL level because of his leap, pace and skill, but he would have greater scope if he was taller. He got out marked by Zac Langdon last night.

Thanks Dazzle for posting that video you can see why Taylor and Lamb were so strong on Jake for pick 21, fast, clean and great decision maker who just loves their footy. He looks so damn confident and they made him earn his spot at VFL level, we have a lot to look forward to. Top effort Jake Bowey.!!!!!

I didn’t think we should have blooded any new players leading into September. Thank goodness I’m not on the match committee. 😅

Magnificent disposal skills and a head on his shoulders well beyond his 18 odd years (at least in a football sense). A huge tick for the recruiting staff!

Been saying this since I first saw him train at Casey. Been a huge wrap for him ever since. Has played exceptionally well at Casey, but last night sheeit he was really very very good. Can see him playing 200 games and being better than Caleb Daniels who I rate highly🤩

Don't like you boasting Picket, but your judgement call on Jake early on was spot on. Personally I didn't think he was ready - how wrong was I? Congrats on the call.

He executed a beautiful short pass in heavy traffic, between eagles players to a target in the 3rd quarter.

He sold me then, composure, good decision and first rate execution.  His HTB in last 1/4 was just a speed of the game thing and he'll learn.  Huge pick up for the club IMO

He shouldn’t remind me of Sam Blease, but he does.

Couldn’t be more impressed with his first  2 career games. Has an amazing amount of composure and he’ll learn from the HTb call in the last qtr.

Blease had more toe and a much more attacking mindset. Alas, like a lot of our 2008 to 2013 generation, he had no football smarts or work ethic.

Bowey's brain seems to be going 100ks an hour when his body is going 15. I look forward to what he will become with another year in the ones and more development!

Was it the luminous #17 on his back, BBP?🤔

Agree about the HTB - it was as though he was momentarily back in the VFL, and he’ll go past that. As the cliche goes: looks really comfortable and composed at the level.

Sam Blease. Talk about PTSD. I tried so hard to forget how bad we were at recruiting, developing, playing and life in general back then... thanks for bringing all that up again.

I guess hes ok for a fanta pants. Will be a big part of future success.

Adam Maric another epic fail!

Kinda nice seeing the #17 running around in defence again, too.  Memories of Brett Lovett...

Maybe Essendon still have “some good stuff” hidden away that could make him grow another 10cm 🙄

The combo of the red hair and the #17 takes me back to the Halcion days of 2011 and 2012 watching Sam Blease light up the MCG.

If Bowey can be half as good as...

Nar forgot that, he overtook Blease by quarter time of his debut.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but did he try and take ANOTHER hanger in the first quarter?

I wonder who between he and Kossie is going to pull down the first absolute screamer. Good to watch.

The head on this kids shoulders! And what a backline full of leaders to mentor him, I'm so excited about Bowey.

Does Jakes family pronounce their last name as bow (and arrow) ey which is how Gill pronounced it on draft night or Bough ey. Would realy like to have this sorted please and thank you.

Yep thanks Demonstone, just watched Goodies presser which confirmed that. 👍

I reckon he may’ve broken a couple of laws of physics right there. 😆

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
